1. hiya chris, welcome aboard
2. Mine will have a dark top but its still being made! I'm not sure half built basses count
3. Dude, how many offers do you have lined up from the EB forum already?
4. good decision, Sir.
5. Nik, what year is this bass?
6. Sounds like you need a wedge cab! I play cramped stages a lot (big band not a lot of space) and the wedge format made sure the sound reached my ears.
7. We did the Waldorf Hilton in central London last night, Simon Cowell was in the lobby when we arrived, but he wasn't there for long. We didn't take that personally... ...it was an OK gig, we had a dep keyboardist and sound engineer. The keyboardist didn't know his parts and the band just lacked spark. Most of the audience went home during the first set as well but that was kind of OK because we had a smaller and more energetic group for the second set who we had a bit of fun with. I found my car had been broken into and my glove box ransacked. The thief got in through a rubber window seal and left his prints on the window pane (although I have yet to check in daylight whether the prints were clear) and made off with £5 of stuff because I never keep valuables locked in the car. I mean, honestly. Five quid? That's pathetic. I bought replacement bits online when I got home. He really needn't have bothered, he could have at least nicked one of the CDs... ...maybe he didn't like my taste in music
8. I think John's prices are pretty bloody reasonable for the standard models. The cost options add a fair whack though. I think the Calibas basses are the nicest and most distinctive out of the whole range.
9. I like NY, its an amazing place if you know what you want to do. I don't know of any place on the planet where big name musicians are so accessible. I had a listen to Lettuce on Myspace, I think any decent bass player would sound funky with that outfit - very tight and great grooves.
10. For a while it was... "Valerie" I kept missing the repeat in the second verse, some of the singers were getting used to turning around and fixing me with The Eye at that point in the song and... ...it STILL didn't help. Although I made the mistake less frequently. Eventually I cottoned on though and play it without incident now.
11. we don't see too many status basses with wooden fingerboards! Lovely. Hope she goes to a good home.
12. Hello Karl, you're normally a regular at TB, aren't you?

15. We've always been around in one form or another. Welcome back
16.
2000 v string all black graphite covered fretless (de-fretted by Martin Peterson at the gallery), and a one off custom Empathy 5 string Rob made for me 10 years ago (the first headless using the stealth body shape don't you know.....):-
If you ever think about selling the Series 2000 5 string, drop me a PM. Seriously.
17. FWIW IMO Worst years: 1984-85 Best years: 1987-88 before and after the EB buy out.
18.
I'd like to see pictures of that 6 string Calibass as well
Me too, was it the one on Ebay with EMG pickups?
19.
Error in listing aparently.
Yeah he's bumped the price up by $5000
20. I'm a bit surprised that the KB II has a bigger body when Rob said originally that, when he and Mark discussed his ideal bass, Mark wanted a bass with a smaller body. Will the KB III end up looking like a wide bodied, graphite necked Pangborn, Alembic or Jaydee?
21.
obbm how is the nord in comparison to the stock MM? and did i read you had an aggie obp-3 in yours??
I happen to have a John East MM pre going spare. I was going to use it in one of my new basses but it lacks the input buffers for 2 pickups. It even has black knobs.
22. ok Kev, I'm impressed. Thats a pretty sexy looking machine.
23. Nick I suspect there are very few people in the country with more than 50 basses. Although I have the resources to collect more than the 9.5 plus 2 guitars I have, I don't have the room and I don't think I'd play them anyway. As it is, some of the instruments only get taken out for special occasions. For me it's just nice to have good quality instruments that are accessible. Thats what I believe I've paid for at the end of the day.
24.
Mornin' Yesterday I decided to play through the Michael Jackson album 'Off The Wall' and remembered just how good of an album it really is. Louis Johnson is absolutely astounding on it and the various people who arranged and composed the songs (MJ is credited with 3 of 10, Rod Temperton has quite a few and there's also a stevie wonder track as well as a mccartney composition) really knew what they were doing to pump out some funky, cheesy, disco, 'of it's time' wonderness. a good 9/10 for playalong ability. anyone else share an opinion on this album? there's some cool bass sounds on the album i think, he doesn't quite just stick to one signature tone on the album. any comments? ____ Ben
I think its Michael Jackson's best album by far, I wasn't that big on Thriller myself. Rod Temperton is a one man hit factory and come a long way since growing up in Cleethorpes. I had a primary school teacher whose husband was in a band with Rod once.
25. Yep, they're a bit like that. Sound nice though. I'm expecting OBBM to post pics of his gold n rootbeer 'Ray next
