1. The preamp tubes could be Mazda ECC83 jobbies, big score if the amp still has the Gold Lions, they're worth a small fortune as NOS in themselves but get them tested. Nice one.
2.
He´s doing one of his "Wake up call!" shows at the GTaranaki Festival ----> http://www.gtaranaki.co.nz/
Aaaah ok. I knew that was happening, couldn't work out why it was being held in Taranaki though.
3. Nuff said really Jack.
4. Everybody loves the Hypnogoat.
5.
Alright, any questions then? I'm going to New Zealand tomorrow so might be a few days before I'm back on.
Oh really? What's your connection with NZ?
6. It certainly crossed my mind with the Smith 6 I owned. Never really felt like my playing was good enough to justify the bass, especially with the associations that brand has. I might feel the same way with Fodera as well. A boutique bass isn't necessarily an improvement over a manufactured bass in all aspects, the craftsmanship and sound tend to be more idiosyncratic. With a boutique bass you tend to sign up to a luthiers vision of what he thinks a good bass is.
7.
So that's all right then ? Thank God that's all cleared up! And thanks for letting Herbie speak through you, Kiwi!
He's not speaking through me but I did talk to him about the origins of this instrument when I met him. It didn't take a mind reader to see him getting more than a little irked by the pointlessness of the debate.
8. Its definitely pre production and thats all that matters. Herbie gets a bit irritated by pedants talking about his bass. He know what it is and doesn't have anything else to prove.
9. Ebay have been moving away from private sellers for the last 3 years at least from what I can tell. Its been fairly clear from the accounts they offer business sellers and the gradually escalating fees on one off auctions that they weren't interested in supporting private sellers for much longer. I'd imagine that business sellers are a lot easier to administer for starters.
10. Probably worth pointing out that it was pap that made him tens of millions of quid and cemented his presence in the memories of an entire generation. How much did Brand X earn?
11.
A 40Kg combo, pickup only from North Yorkshire ... hardly surprising it went for so little.
It's a valve guitar combo and no heavier than other amps of that period including Marshalls and Fenders. Just doesn't have the same nostalgia value.
As a side-note, I'll be playing a reasonably serious pub gig this evening. My entire outfit (bass, amp, cab, pedal-board, the lot) will weigh about 20Kg, and will almost certainly sound better than that Burman. I'll be playing Alleva Coppolo --> Radial Tonebone --> Orange Bass Terror --> Barefaced Midget.
Them's fightin' words. Your kit probably isn't going to compete with anything 30 years from now, either so its a moot point. Burmans more than hold their own against other valve amps IMHO, including my V8.
12. Looks interesting. Redwood top? What does it sound like?
13.
CK, why would you want to make such a tiny amp rack size? What's the point of putting something this small in a rack?
Better late than never... ...sometimes it would be nice to use my rack equipment with it but not carry around two bits of kit that need setting up and plugging in.
14. http://www.spectorbass.com/usa/SE/ns-5h2.html Not all of it appears to be working. But I like the way its sort of gathered up a lot of the existing information that was around and put it in one easy to access place.
15.
I played Herbie's Jazz probably a couple of years ago. To say the action is high is an understatement... but it was pretty surreal to be playing the instrument that featured on countless recording and stonking gigs. And as everybody says, he is one of the kindest guys out there and keen to help out all budding musos. A true gent.
+1 I played it in 2006.
16. My modded spectors are damn fine. Knock everything else I've ever tried into a cocked hat. I wish the body was larger and the necks were more similar in profile but apart from that the sound is perfect. Loads of growl and warmth if I need it and my mods add extra versatility. I wish I'd had them when I was gigging. I also had a touch of inspiration the other day and hooked my Shuker up to my EBS Microbass II - one hell of a transformation! Took away the brittleness of the stainless steel frets and added loads of warmth. I love how responsive and even it still is as well.
17.
Actually, where would the serial number be located....he's provided me with it, but I can't see it in any of the photos Cheers Si
On the neck plate or latterly on the bridge with pre EB basses.
18.
This one appears to have a dot-marker there
Are you sure?
19.
hello everyone...Aren't you nice...Apart from all sharing that one book! I'm not playing for Roxy because I upset Bryan by smashing a Bass on the last night of his 2007 tour in New Zealand.. Cheers
NZ does tend to have that effect though. It's the isolation you know.
20. Looks nice to me. Whats the serial?
21. only just spotted this, all I can say is wow.
22. Russ, do you think we're taking reasonable steps? This post is in the most prominent part of the site and features on the RSS feed. The only other thing we could do is issue a forum wide email but we still can't protect people against themselves. Oggy, when did you get the PM? I'd like to check if they're using another account or the one that has been banned. The banned account is dead and disabled, they don't even have access to their PM system but we keep it on file so they can't register a new account with the same email.
23.
I've had the exact same message from a cc25corner in response to a wanted thread.
Thats the account which has been shut down.
24. I use google chrome and the site's been 100% fine for me...and I'm in NZ. Have you tried clearing your browser cache?
25. He'll be reading this thread I expect. Hi Guy.
