Is it just me or does this seem a very good deal
Jono Bolton replied to stewblack's topic in Bass Guitars
That doesn't seem bad at all. £60 off the rrp, free delivery, stand and strings (although at £8 a set they'll not be fantastic), and Squier stuff's pretty decent, I have a Squier tele and strat and they're both excellent, the neck on my strat's better than some Fenders I've tried. I'd probably replace the pickups on it though, the pickups on my strat were quite weak, but the tele isn't bad at all. You get a choice of colours too, sunburst looks good with the tortoise shell scratchplate. -
I wouldn't have said it was a Burns, but possibly a Burns-styled copy. Flight of the Conchords are from New Zealand, could it possibly be by a company from NZ? EDIT: Also, that neck looks feckin' huge!

I know I posted pretty much the same thing in the General Bass Discussion bit, but what service do people on here use to post amps? I need to post my Peavey amp but I don't want to have to charge the buyer loads for it. I was told about Interparcel, who are charging about £30 for end of next day delivery. Has anyone else had experience with posting such huge amps?
340 quid to post to oz....plus the price of the amp...dont they have music shops down under
That's what I thought. There's no way he thought it could be cheaper to have it shipped from here than to buy one over there. Anyway, it sold with Buy It Now, to someone in Derbyshire. I think I'll be using Interparcel, it's gonna be £24.99 + VAT to ship it for next day delivery as opposed to £38 for Parcelforce 48

I'm selling my Peavey bass combo, and I need to post it. Which services are the best for posting big parcels like this? I only really know of Parcelforce, and previous experience hasn't been great. Also, a guy from Oz wants to know how much it's going to be to post it, what would be a good service to send it overseas? Parcelforce Worldwide is putting it at about £340, does that sound about right.

Peavey TNT 115 combo. Selling it because I'm hopefully buying a new Ashdown combo after Christmas. Great condition, a couple of scuffs on the top (you can see them in one of the photos), very small (the scuffs, not the amp). Good meaty bass sound, 7 band graphic EQ and bass and treble knobs for extra depth. £150 ono plus postage. It's on eBay too. Some pictures: Email me with any questions!
I don't really find delays like that acceptable to be honest. And yes, I know I'm anal about this kind of thing but if I'm selling something it will be packed and ready to go before it's sold and will be sent the same day or next working day once it is sold.
+1. This is why I f***ing hate eBay. Especially people registered as sellers. They know they're selling things, and so they know people'll be buying their stuff. I bought a bag last week to help with carting stuff home for Christmas and it's still not been posted yet, with no response from the seller after 3 messages (mainly about my anger at them not letting me know whats going on). And I paid for 1st class recorded delivery to make sure it was here on time, so that a waste of a fiver. It's totally rude, and shows that they don't give 2 shits about their customers. Looking at their feedback, about 30 odd are neutral or negative. There should be a limit as to how much bad feedback someone gets before their account gets canceled. It takes 2 minutes to check if stuffs been sold, and sellers should make an effort to get to the post office if they know they have someone else's money. Sorry, rant over

The first one I ever played was a Jim Deacon P-Bass copy that my primary school bought. I was the only one who kept playing longer than a week. I spent pretty much every chance I got practicing on it til I finished primary. First I ever owned was a second (or third) hand Peavey Foundation, similar to a precision, with 2 soap bar pickups. And a nice maple neck if I remember rightly. I had that for about 3 years before selling it on. My first guitar was a pink Danelectro U2. I wish I still had that.

Me brushing my teeth: Me playing a gig in Mordor: Me playing in Bannerman's in Edinburgh, post haircut: I've still to get a new scratchplate for my Jazz -
Mine is playing in Germany in May. The second night, in what was once an old milk factory. It'd been converted so there was a venue, with flats surrounding it. Great fun, we played well, met some awesome people, got as much free beer as we could drink, did 2 encores and just generally had a blast. Cos the people that stayed in the flats helped run the gig, they all stayed afterwards so we had about 50 people in the "backstage area" til 4 in the morning. Good times!

Rock Around the Clock for me. That was back in primary school. I got taught the Beverly Hills Cop theme tune and an Ace of Bass song after that.

Theres a P-P pickup combo on this one! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1978-Fender-Precisio...1QQcmdZViewItem

There's one going cheap here too: http://musical-instruments.search.ebay.co....ZR40QQsacatZ619 I like the sunburst, not the scratchplate

I've also got a friend that used to work at his dads junk yard and used to pull out all kinds of weird guitars/synths/drum pieces and take them home to fix them and use them again. There must be loads of old gear taking up a big section of the UKs dumps.

I've got 2 MIM Fender basses just now. In the years I've been playing I managed to pretty much destroy on of the original Peavey Foundation basses which I then sold on to a "mate" for about £50, which then went on a Washburn XB, a real cheap one, but it was sparkly blue and had just 1 p-bass style pickup and 2 knobs. That was traded in for the Jazz when i got it about 3 years ago. I know that "mate" has had at least 3 other cheapo basses that have been repainted (badly) orhe's attempted to mod and ballsed it up and ended up in a skip. I think its kids like that that can account for a good few budget basses

I'd be lost without my Leo Quan bridges! I've got them on both my basses and they make a massive difference to the sound, compared to the flimsy stock Fender bridges the clarity and sustain is amazing. I know the black bridges are getting harder and harder to find. But if they do discontinue them for whatever reason, I'll be straight on eBay buying up as many as I can.
Go for it. is that with Musicguard?
Yep. No where near as bad as I thought it was going to be. And even if I do it via monthly direct debit with the extra interest, its under £100. At less than a tenner a month I'd be stupid not too.

Just went to get a quote, £81 for a year, includes breakdown cover, in vehicle cover, covered if I'm away from the insured location, EU cover for when my band goes away, no £250 excess AND public liability too. Not bad, methinks
-
Good stuff. I have a new laptop too, will any of them be able to cover that as well?
-
Has any here insured their gear? I'm looking to insure both basses and my Ashdown once I've got it, but I don't know any decent insurers musical gubbins. Does anyone know a good place to go?

Hi I pretty much fired in on the regular forum and didn't do this. My name's Jono, 20, and I stay in Ayr. I play in a prog/indie/heavy(ish) rock band, and we're taking a break over Christmas while our gun-for-hire guitarist lends his talents to some Christmas musical shows. My rig consists of 2 Fender basses (MIM), a Jazz and a Precision, both with Badass bridges and Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups. These go through a Boss ODB-3 bass overdrive and TU-2 stage pedal tuner, and into a Peavey TNT 115, which is soon to be replaced with probably an Ashdown ABM EVO II C210T combo and then a 410 cab when money allows. Thats about it really.

I know people have already mentioned this but: http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0194060720 I'm not sure I'm a fan

I can't remember when I started playing bass. It was late in primary school, I'll say I was 10 as a safe bet, which was 10 years ago I didn't start my first band til I was about 15/16, and we were appualing. That lasted about a year or so, just playing covers. I didn't start my first "real" band until last December. I took over from another of my friends on bass because he was already in two other bands It's been pretty good so far, just gigging around Glasgow and Edinburgh, although we did get to go to Germany earlier this year. Hopefully we're going back next May, and then Spain later in the summer
