1. I used a green pan scourer attached to a Black & Decker Mouse to knock back the gloss on my old Epiphone SG.
2. They were on a set of standard split-shaft pots so that'd be about 5.9mm diameter. They have a grub screw rather than being push-on.
3. I've put some relief back in the neck; it's slightly less than business card thickness at the 8th fret but it's still more than I had before I straightened it out, so I guess I didn't have enough in the first place. My issue now is that my saddles are as low as they'll go on the E and G strings, but they are still quite high, and the intonation seems to be out in the middle of the neck. I guess now it's a three-way trade off between relief, string height and angle of the neck get it playing as well as it can.
4. How much relief is too much? There was quite a bit before I straightened it.
5. My Peavey Foundation buzzes quite a bit when I fret a note at the first fret. I thought it must be to do with the nut slots being too low, but I placed a couple of shims in under the nut to raise it and I'm still getting the same buzz. I had a slight bit of relief in the neck when I first noticed the buzz and I've just changed the strings and straightened the neck and it's still there. Does this sound like it's the frets that need dressed?
6. Sell for £7 plus P&P
7. Would the tuners for if I have standard Fender-size tuners or will the screw in bush be too small?
8. SOLD! John, please PM me to discuss your commission!
9. I've got an early '90s Peavey Foundation body in black. Made in the USA, from poplar I believe, it's very light. Quite a few chips, dings and scratches so it's probably a candidate for a refinish. Hardware-wise, it comes with the strap buttons, back plate, jack plate and bridge base plate. Asking for £25 if you pickup from Glasgow (Southside), can post too at cost. Can get more pics as well when the light's a bit better. SOLD.
10.
Why not plug the holes & redrill for the smaller screws?
I did think about it, but I don't have the necessary tools to do it myself, and taking it to a tech would be both costly and time consuming. I use the Peavey on a weekly basis for my band so new screws for the neck would be the most cost effective and time efficient solution. There was a Foundation neck plate and screw set on eBay recently but someone bought it before I got paid, such is my luck!
11. I'd keep the Squier logo personally, but then it's your bass, not mine! At the very least though it would save you the laborious task of removing the old one, applying a new one and re-lacquering the headstock.
12. I have a Peavey Foundation bass and the original neck screws were rusted pretty badly and I couldn't get them clean, so I replaced them with a set from Axes R Us. The new screws though are standard Fender-style, and are slightly thinner than the original ones. The neck fits pretty tight in the pocket but I can still wiggle the neck slightly. Where could I buy screws that are thicker than than the Fender-types I've got? I stupidly binned the originals.
13.
For reference here's a WD on my Sea Foam Green 65 Precision...
Is that the cheaper or more expensive WD tort?
14. My Squier Matt Freeman P Bass is an incredible instrument, it's unbelievably well made and finished. The neck is one of the nicest I've played. Nothing needs changed on it either, I left mine stock.
15. I don't know if this is of any interest as it was a custom order, but I have a wiring harness made by Jon that I had briefly in my Peavey Foundation. It's master volume, a three-way switch (Gibson-style), master tone and jack. Included are 2 chrome, dome-top knobs to fit the pots. All in this has cost me over £50, so I'm asking for £35 inc. postage. Can arrange for pics of it if required.
