1. Actually this is a lot less than half the price of a new one - according to the review in last months Bass Guitard Magazine the list price is now £899, and who am I to disagree. I'm gradually learning to love mine, and it doesn't look as nice as this one.
 2. FWIW I went to see the Answer a few months ago at Dingwalls, and despite not being a huge fan of that Zep sound I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the gig - they're a really good band with some strong songs and great stage presence. Someone should snap these up.
 3.
Next to Me? - well you wouldn't have wanted him to be on top, would you girls?
ROTFL. If I could put this in the 'quotes' thread, I would. Don't ever change!
 4. I thought Jay Z sucked watermelons through elephants and the only redeeming feature of his entire set was the backing singer in the first song, wow was she hot!! Too bad Dizzee Rascal hired Guthrie Gowan. I enjoyed Stornoway, they have a singer who can actually sing on key unlike most indie bands and they are very young, they will improve. Don't get Norma Jones though, and I dont' know what her bassist was trying to prove. Fortunately I missed Sting - growing the beard is relatively easy but matching Martyn's awesome talent is going to present a considerable challenge. As for Foos, what can you say. Consumate ease, particularly Times Like These. I may be guilty of forgetting what they're capable of, though I too would have preferred to see fewer session musicians. I thought they were a class above everything else I've seen in this series with the exception of Gladys Knight.
 5.
When mine arrived it was set to 12 both on pre and master. At this level the hiss is very noticeable, however I could not play at anything like that volume in my house!
I have to admit at this point to buying one of the 110s, which arrived today and I've only had a very brief play with it. I did manage to play it at 12 on pre and master in my house without destroying any windows but it was a close run thing. I could hear a very slight hiss (as in , I had to lay on the floor and put my ear on the grill) much to the amusement of my nearest and dearest, but I wouldn't describe it as 'very noticeable'. Given that my lugs are probably shot to bits through years of abuse, I intend to strap it to my carrier and cycle round to Dave C. at some point to see what he thinks! I can understand why this gear has such a high RRP. It's everything I hoped it would be - with my G&L2500 I can get any tone I want, the build quality is excellent and it's clearly capable of serious volume. I'd like to try it with a Barefaced Midget at some point, but in the meantime I think my VL110 will work well as an extension cabinet.
 6. You might be able to waltz to them, but these two :
The Beatles - Norwegian Wood Leo Sayer - When I Need You
Are definitely 6/8 , even if the former was incorrectly published as a 3/4 !
 7. That's a lovely bass. I can say that secure in the knowledge that I have one that appears to be identical, except that mine has frets. However, mine also has a jazz-width neck and a fairly solid 'C' profile. What's the width of the nut?
 8.
As promised: Ashdown 810 to the left (with an Ampeg head on top), original Vox AC30 to the right, sitting in the middle - my shrunken rig.
Kewl. The Midget actually looks narrower than the fingerboard on the Roscoe Beck.
 9.
I'm hoping that some one can help me sort out the best way to ship my Wal to Belgium I have just read through the thread on couriers and now I'm even more worried about it. Is there a company out there that can pack, ship and insure it reliably or can anyone give some pointers on the best way to do things I was kind of hoping someone in the uk wanted it then I would'nt have to do this. such is life any help much appriciated john
I thought several people in the UK did want it! Ask the purchaser to get on a Eurostar and meet him in London. Safest all round. I once collected two underwater scooters from a bloke in Belgium and a trip across on the ferry turned out to be the best way. +1 for being careful with choice of courier if you do decide to post it. Many have insurance limits for musical instruments in the small print - there's a thread about this somewhere.
 10.
You can get a pack of self adhesive labels and cut them into thin lines for fretmarkers
Car bodywork pinstriping tape.
 11. I've had good cheap strings from Webstrings - www.webstrings.com . I've got some cheap Hartke's to try, but my wild extravagance in putting a set of DRs on seems to have been justified - 6 months now and still pretty bright sounding. I'm not a noted string-killer though since my hands don't sweat much. Pete
 12.
With regard to valve amps Matamp is the way forward although I would love to own one of the original Hiwatts but then we are back to Matamp again
Monz, would you like to expand on this? As far as I'm aware, there was a connection between Orange and Matamp, but none between Matamp and Dave Reeves or Harry Joyce. Dave Reeves worked for Sound City before he went to Hiwatt. I'm talking about the vintage stuff here, not the 'Hiwatt' made for Music Ground by Matamp in the early part of this decade. To the OP - you might also want to consider the Celestion 12s, they have a range of neo and non-neo.
 13.
Think I'll do the 'withdrawn due to lack of interest' thing here! All things considered I think the best bet is to keep it as a back-up fretted whilst also trying to source a fretless neck that will fit. Might even get some stacked VT pots put in to see how that goes Thanks for the comments and info above Chris
Hi Chris, You could also think about making Happy Jack an offer for his Ibby fretless precision 2366. 14. Hi, I'm gigging with the covers band Crossover on Sat 24th October at the Cross Keys, Henley if anyone's at a loose end. Best, Pete
 15.
Yes to one set please! Paypal okay?
Yes to the other set. Please PM and we can sort out the details.
 16. I have a Giz skinz mixer case and while the main features are still good the zips on the pockets have gone bally busto in very short order and with virtually no use. I still rate Ritter, but hey.
 17.
That is an interesting idea, but I really like the idea of just getting an ebony board on. They do come fretless from the factory, and sound absolutely wonderful. I mean, I could always save and buy one, but Ernie Ball only offer Ebony boards on basses with the 'Stealth' finish. I'll think it through with all the options and come to a decision. Little Glemham is about a mile away from me so I'll check those guys out! Thanks
Just about to PM you Colin's details - I doubt he'd thank me for posting 'em on the net.
 18.
......but dont remember 18`s being mentioned much (i have the memory of a goldfish though )
Yeah, speaker technology has moved on a bit since the '80s and the response is a bit slow.
 19.
Yeah I've had a fretless Ray before, unlined, and it was great - absolutely loved it. My intonation was actually pretty good! If I had the fretboard replaced, I would have lines on the side of the neck but not on the fingerboard I reckon. Thanks for the reply man, can you recommend any good luthiers? I have no knowledge of this area at all!
If by 'this area' you mean Suffolk, Colin Fulton in Little Glemham is very very good and Andrew Guyton is unbelievably good, though whether he'd be interested in this job I don't know. I'm not sure it's such a great idea though. I think a fretless bongo will have a resale value of much less than a fretted one - are they available fretless from the factory? BTW nice to see the original Beedster avatar restored to it's rightful position!
 20.
She's not on Evilbay anymore.....! Lovely instrument, I'm torn between around 7 lovers right now!
Well done. I'm so glad that this lovely bass has gone to a good home.
 21.
The Zombies (Rod Argent & Colin Blunstone) are playing in the Globe in Roath that evening. It's only a short bus ride from the centre.
It's a possibility! Thanks for the heads-up. Pete
 22.
Its a cracking Sceme.
A word of warning - the people who administer it are seriously useless. I bought a piano from PMT. Set up scheme forms, paid deposit on credit card. No problem. 3 months later, a letter - we've presented the direct debit mandate, and it was bounced. Please phone this number. Number turns out to be wrong: a rightly aggrieved lass in Birmingham who couldn't understand why she was so popular. One week later, another letter - we're sending in the bailiffs to recover the amount! 'Er indoors rings, asks for the total amount owed, pays it off. We don't need the hassle. One week later, another letter - we've presented the direct debit mandate, and it was bounced. Please phone this number ... Now they won't talk to 'er indoors without my permission. They're going to regret that. First law of data security - anyone who uses the Data Protection Act as a cover for not doing what they should do is lying to you. Pete

As an LM II owner, I'd have to say I was seriously underwhelmed by the Shuttle I tried last weekend. Pete
