  1. I wouldn't say a mic is the answer to string noise, the realist pickup has very little top end so it may suit your bass if you're after a darker amplified sound, what strings are you using?
  2. How much do you pay him on average? That's the deciding factor for me .As people have said already there's plenty of good engineer/PA hire people around
  3. Dimensions Width 61cm Height 61cm Depth 47.5 cm It doesn't have a tweeter, I'll weigh it this evening, think the scales must be in the attic, it's very heavy!
  4. Definitely 8 ohm and 1400w ,I'll measure it later, don't know too much about it tbh as I think matamp make the cabs to order so there's no model info as such on the website,
  5. I've got a dpa 4099b and it sounds great in the right conditions but can often be problematic and if you're using a mic you have to accept you won't have as much level or definition as with a pickup. I've had periods with no pickup on my bass and it does cause issues , some engineers get really pissed off and unfortunately people are now used to hearing the pickup through an amp sound on stage. I've found a happy medium is having a pickup on the bass and taking a sm57 and an h clamp and a dpa and rather than a bass amp I use a powered speaker which I personally think sounds better than a bass amp with my pickup, so if set up is rushed or the stage is loud I'll just put the pickup through the speaker,if I have more time I'll put the speaker on a stand and try the mics and tbh some of the best sounds I've had have been when I've had a dynamic mic on an h clamp going foh with no amp or monitoring ,
  6. I would say you wouldn't be limited to a certain set up with a rb bass or classical bass, they're essentially the same , the rb basses mentioned are all plywood so they probably wouldn't sound great with a bow but they would be more suitable for standing on !
  7. I do find my amps loud enough I just thought if I'm gonna downsize my cab would the ohmage be critical but now I know otherwise
  8. Thanks dad , I get sensitivity now , nice one. I'll check the figures , tbh I've owned or gigged most things , loved my berg hds never should of sold them and thinking about it they didn't seem to get more out the amp together at 4ohm than my matamp at 8ohm ( different cabs though I )
  9. This has got me thinking maybe my orange is a bit knackered!!
  10. Wanna get my orange ad200 checked over any recommendations, London ish area
  11. Sorry for being dense but could someone explain sensitivity in laments terms So is the general gist that if I downsize my cab then the ohmage isn't critical cos both my amps are powerful enough to put as much power into the cab as it needs?
  12. I use an orange ad200b which I love the tone of but I also have an aguilar ag500dc which I'll take if need loads of volume
  13. Yeah I'm after loudness .I do all sorts of gigs but one of my regulars is 3 piece wedding band where we take our own pa with no sub. Another is a trio with cigar box guitar, bass and drums , sometimes there is decent pa but sometimes there isn't and I have to fill the room and the bass is quite prominent in the songs I've got a matamp 410 which does the business but I can't be bothered carrying it as I gig 4ish times a week Thinking of a aguilar db212 but maybe the 4ohm is a better idea IF I can find one?
  14. So I'm no expert with ohms etc but am I right in thinking if you're using one cab and a biggish head a 4ohm cab would be getting more power out of your amp,if so then why are most 4x10 and 2x12 8ohm,I'm thinking of getting something like an aguilar 212 to use on it's own so am I better off getting a 4ohm one if I can find one?
  15. Whereabouts are you mate?
