ehrlund eap contact mic and preampSOLD a really great compromise between mic and piezo, in terms of both sound and feedback resistance. Apparently they are fantastic for arco , I've heard Daf bow his bass through one and it sounded wonderful. I no longer use it as I just use mics for most gigs and if it's gonna be really really loud I use a pick up, but if you don't wanna go down the mic route this is a great way to get a more natural tone, it cost me £340 new, the tin the mic comes in is a bit dented apart from that it's in very good condition and works perfectly £200 I'm in stoke newington north london if you wanna pick it up or I'll post it, probably be £5

Really nice playing mate -
What strings do you BassChat DB'ers play?

I've got gamut wrapped E and A , longevity seems very good, I've had mine on about 4 months and I do 4/5gigs a week on average I they haven't deteriorated at all, tuninf stability is a pain in the ass but they do settle eventually, mine took a a good couple of months, yeah they cost a lot but I'm pretty happy with mine and they have thump and weight to the tone I haven't been able to get from synthetic , they don't have the resonance and volume of spiros but for me guts are the sound of jazz -
1/2 sizes are for kids to learn on , bluegrass players favour big 3/4 and 7/8 bass,

I've read a bit on talkbass about the gut D bein proplematic, on my bass an efrano was a bit dead but my gamut lyon is pretty good if a little bit quieter than the g. The gamut pistoy sounded crap on my bass , really dead. I've just put a full set of leznzers on my kay and the d seems pretty even with the other strings, -

I'd love a peacemaker, one of these days I'm gonna drive to frankfurt and get one. I definately think a ply bass can sound good for jazz, Ron Carters early recordings were on a relatively cheap plywood englehardt and I prefer his sound on those records

I didn't know lambert made guts, what's the name of that string? I was gonna get lenzners

I've been after an american ply bass for a while now as I've been getting more and more into bluegrass and blues, i've been thinking about importing an an american standard or kay but have been a bit daunted by the shipping/duty etc so when this came up on ebay I thought f*** it i'll have it, It's got cordes lamberts an underwood, a well fitted adjustable bridge and massive stupid hardcase. The bass is very battered , the edges are pretty bad and have had a few dodgy filler repairs but theres no soundpost cracks or anything to scary, it looks like the neck hasn't been broken although that seems unlikely and it does look like its been reset so maybe it has but it seems structually sound with no rattles or buzzes, so not a bargain and it's in worse nick than the pictures suggested but tbh it's worn look for me goes with a bass that is synonymous with the sound of rural america ( and urban too really, chicago blues and all) Anyway the sound, I wasn't sure if the sound I love on the old records was down to only strings, recording techniques etc but hallelujah it's got the sound, it's not detailed complex or refined but it's got that big warm woody thump I used on a jazz trio gig playing acoustic and it was fine , not as detailed or resonant as my lott bryant but it had a propulsive thump when walking, then on tue I played on a blues/new orleans gig and it was perfect even through the underwood and house ashdown, a set up I'd normally turn my nose up at. Can't wait to get some proper guts on it and experiment with mics, pickups and that whole never ending nightmare here's a recording of my friend playing a 30s kay C, what a sound and what a player http://impossibleark...once-in-a-while now if only i could slap mine like cousin jake https://www.youtube....h?v=qfeeLgHvROA anyone else on basschat got a kay

That's right it's absolutely free Lightweight hardcase for double bass 3/4 to 7/8 ish. Wheels on the bottom , towing handle and suitcase handle, really good condition, .It would be perfect for touring or when your bass goes in the back of van or shipping. I just bought a bass and it was included but it's taking up most of my flat and the wife's turning nasty hence the bargain price of nothing http://gotofmi.com/34upbalihaca.html it's this case and cost £295 I'm in stoke newington , north london , it will fit in a mondeo size car or bigger, maybe golf but not sure

I really like acoustic image , like you say you're not gonna get that low end thump . Most of the time I use a PA cab even when I use a pickup , sounds odd but for some louder gigs I use a realist into a sansamp straight into the back of a mackie 450 , for me there's something a bit more even than a bass guitar cab. I like the qsc k10 with a pickup too and it has 2 channels so for a lot of gigs I use a tiny bit of pick up in 1 channel and mic on a stand on the other , the qsc has a mic/line switch so you don't need a pre which is handy. Do you only use pick up Rabbie?
