1. Wow I really like these strings, I've got a "lott" bryant I bought new and I had a gut G and velvet garbas on it. The golden slaps are lower tension and warmer than the velvets and but also sound more resonant on my bass . The sound I'm going for is more jazz pizz gut ( paul chambers, israel crosby ) and the slaps are way more like this than I expected , I thought they'd be more rockabilly slap. I agree with what other people have said about the pop to the front of the note too. Basses are fussys buggers , my old german likes it tight and sounds great with spiros and sounds floppy and dead with gut or pretend gut (velvet , innovataion etc ) but these are the ones for my bryant ( for now anyway !! ) Daf do you sell them? where's the best place to buy them?
2. Lovely swinging playing ,great drum solo too
3. https://www.youtube....h?v=zJ9QfISW-Gs https://www.youtube....h?v=JnvphEgF7j0 Sue Pollard vs miles davis, Sue's performance is certainly the more committed of the 2
4. I think Flloyd Edgar has one.Cairo bill had one that I think he sold don't know if that was to another bc'er I've got a "lott" bryant I bought new off paul. I'm finally really happy with mine,it did take quite a bit of work , I had the finger boarded chuted , new bridge, tried loads of different strings etc, I'd definately recommend a Bryant bass, a few well respected bass makers have said to me they're a bit crude but I don't know how he does it for the money and I'd agree with that.
5. I couldn't agree more, laurence is a lovely fella and a great luthier.
6. merlefest i think is at the end of april, worth a look
7. check out the Blue ridge parkway, its a scenic road thru the blue ridge mountains absolutely stunning, there's a lot really cool bluegrass festivals round there too
8. Hi Sy Yeah I'd sell the pistoy , I'm open to wrapped or plain gut, Spencer
9. Hi I've recently got a new bass and I'm trying to figure out which strings it likes and I wanna try a gut A. I'm currently using a gamut gut G and garbo D and A and E, for trades I've got brand new helicore A,D and G,a gamut pistoy D light gauge which is the string a lot of people on talkbass like but didn't suit my bass and is 2 gigs old. Spencer
10. hmm ,better sound than the DPA ? sounds like a pick up to me
11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhOI6bZwCsk nice jumper
12. just listened to the feraud and gwizdala clips and i think that's a bit harsh on the latter to lump them in together, for me feraud is just finger wiggling nonsense but I thought gwizdala has a sense of harmonic development and space and has tons of modern jazz vocab. Isn't all bass shred music a bit bollox though? great shout for thunes and fowler
13. I use the dpa with a qsc k10 powered speaker on a stand, having it up on a stand is the key to getting enough level before it feeds back, I sometimes put the mic thru an amp and it sounds good but does feedback if you try and crank it
14. I use a DPA 4099b on probably 80% of my gigs , I still have a pick up which I use for loud gigs or if I have to stand really close to the drums and sometimes engineers insist on taking a Di often because they think it should sound like a bass guitar,
15. where abouts are you stevie?
16. I don't really have any criteria for what I think is "good" . Some of my goodest players have got it all ,time tone technique harmony, players like Ray Brown, Jamerson you know the type . I also think Dee Dee Ramone and his shall we say rugged technique is good, sometimes that school band punk rock n roll thing does it for me. but I also like modern nashville players whose note placement and length is exquisite even though their lines through the changes are generic and cliched. Some of the modern gospel players are right show offs but I think they're good too. is there a bit of a chops vs subtlety thing going on here. It's all good
17. just paint it, matched headstocks look great.
18. gotta be a valve amp , I use a ampeg SVT with berg cabs and it sounds amazing, shits all over my shuttle 9.2 ( don't get me wrong I love my genz )
19. for sale Thomastik belcantos £50 SOLD I've just bought a bryant bass and it came with these strings and as soon as I bought it I had it set up and changed the strings I was the first person to trial the bass so as far as I can tell these have barely been played and are like new £50 posted might trade for G and or D gut , cash either way
20. Did a gig tonight with no amp , it was a theatre and I plugged in my dpa 4099b had a wedge stood on its end behind and it sounded great so better than a pick up and amp
21. the CH chordas are about £320 from david gage , ouch
