1. That's how I look right now. (Bass with an exclusive photo-tuning )
2. BAD EXAMPLE: GOOD EXAMPLE:
3. Gold on a simple bass (PB, JB) in black or white (especially combined with rosewood, cream bound fretboards with block markers) is the killa. Kinda pimp-ish, but nonetheless classy. Gold on cherry red also works, especially when it goes old and matte or even slightly corroded.
4. As long as the "vintage bass" is combined with "Japanese", it works. Don't ask, how or why, it just really works
5.
Ask Lemmy if they could borrow the original to copy?
Nobody actually ASKS Lemmy to lend anything, they just put a trail of 50cl shot glasses of Jack Daniel's that is long enough to lead him astray for a while.
6. I feel for you mate. I know this feeling (but it never happened in front of audience, as I'm a home player): each time I'm given a new bass, I have a hard time adjusting and mess everything up. The only exceptions to this rule are narrow necked (MiJ/CiJ usually) P-Basses/Tele Basses and the late Ibanez JTKB200 which felt like crafted for me.
7. If they'd do a Jaguar-style bass, I'd be buying one right now.
8. I cecently looked at Ditto X2 by TC Electronic. That looks very promising. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58T4yGJ4J4Y
9. Unfortunately, in Polish pawn shops they usually only have cr*ppy, finger-hurting basses made by Chinese corporations I need to take a serious pawn shop stroll, though, maybe I'll get lucky
10. I usually play with only one (index) finger too and often use the middle finger only to mute the strings. And I play much faster with one finger than with two! But I can play with two, I just find using one finger more comfy. If a master like James Jamerson was playing skillfully with one finger, a peon like me can do it too.
11.
Geezer started out playing a Precision on the first three albums (...)
Oooh, so THAT'S WHY I love those most
12.
Looks like an early Wal to me... At least from the screen grab at the top.
+1 from me, especially considering the deep and rich sound of the bass - it really sounds Wal-ish. EDIT: Looks similar, if not identical: + Link to another burst WAL bass. And from Basschat, actually!
13. Why bother, it's "Top of the Pops", so it's playback Seriosuly, though, here it is in the best resolution possible. http://www.incognito.org.uk/gallery/IncognitoMusicians/Paul__quot_Tubbs_quot__Williams.jpg
14. Simply. Awesome.
15. The groove. You can listen to it continuously, your head and/or feet are moving and the song simply dies when the bass is silenced.
16.
You know, Immo, this thread is pointless without SOUNDS… when can we hear some sampleses?
We had a little jam at our workplace (perks of having an recording room) and while I was gone, my colleague recorded the bass. Plugged into audio interface, picked, both PUs at full, tone fully open. Strung with GHS Precision Flatwounds.
17.
I never remember a conversation about the weather... Even Flea can't pull that one off!
18.
COULD being the operative word I was at that RHCP gig... they aren't a very serious band so it works nicely.
So you should remember that Flea actually DID a weather talk
19. Due to the fact I only play EADG 4-stringer softly, I've also been told I'm not a bass player (which actually I ain't, but purely for lack of skill reasons).
20. I used Fender Nylon Tapewounds. Astonished by the effect at first, but later I started to hear a plastic-like fret noise. I guess they're great on fretless bass, but on fretted P they had that squeak that irritated the hell out of me, on the "organic" level, sort of like smacking. By the way, I use Rotosound 88 TruBass tapewounds and they don't have that issue at all!
21. Never played to any audience, but I'd certainly talk to them if I had a chance. Being quite shy at first, probably I'd start with something cheesy like a weather talk, but it always could turn into a nice laugh, right? I'd try to say something funny, in general. Not a big absorbing stopper, but just a few seconds of giggle. I also love the idea of sign along, especially when the songs are not the band's, but rather they're something widely popular (or maybe even anthems; Flea did that on RHCP's concert at Slane Castle in Ireland, 2003; after the anthem, he talked to audience about his grandmother, who was Irish).
22. I successfully gigged with guitar Vox Pathfinder. Guitarist had combo of exact same model and the drummer had a full set of drums two meters away and we still played nicely. So I guess I ain't an objective person
23.
I am doing a PMM one but it dosnt look Pritty I hope i got the MM in the correct place but i would like some thing to Cover the MESS i made with Chopping out the hole :'(
Buy some raw pickguard material and create a pickguard of whatever shape you like
24.
There is one more thing I do on my wiring: I put a .01 capacitor inline from the hot lead of the bridge pickup to its volume pot. This cuts a little bit of low end, which isn't there anyway on a bridge position pickup, and a tad of volume, hence using a "hot" pickup like the DiMarzio Ultra Jazz, and cures the impedance volume drop with both pickups full on.
I did similar thing - I "treble bled" the neck PU's VOL pot, it did similar thing
25.
My favorite bass is probably the bass I haven't bought/built yet.

Best answer ever! XD
And worst at the same time... Oh, the G.A.S.
