1. Schecter Stiletto Custom, look like cracking basses
2.
I bought a tumble dryer off Gumtree this morning and it was exactly as described! ....I'm getting my coat...
4x10 or 1x15?
3. well.......I went to see two basses advertised on Gumtree today - both of which were being sold as being in 'very good condition', couple of small marks etc - nothing major....well........it would appear that my view of 'very good condition' is very different to someone elses! The bass was covered in marks, dings, big headstock chip, missing cap on the tuner, bowed neck, duff strings....the list is endless. The 2nd bass was marginally better, but still NOT very good condition. A waste of a two hour drive, and it has put my back up to be honest - i've always sold my gear with very honest desciptions, as do the people on this forum - i wish people elsewhere would too. Grrrrrrr (ps...did end up in Denmark Street and bought two more sets of bargain Trace Elliot strings for a £10!)
4. As this year draws to a close, I'm reflecting on some great gigs that me and my bands have done in 2011. Couple of great ones for me were a function at the Island Bar near Reading, and a packed pub gig at the George and Dragon in Westerham. anyone else care to share their best gigs from 2011?
5.
Victor Bailey, Low Blow Great album
+1
6. I guess related, i think Pete Ray Biggin has injected some new life into L42 and MK's playing
7. Kaaansaaaaaaaasss City Milkmaaaaaaaaaaaaan
8. Pal of mine has a PA hire and installation company - he's had the same Trace Combo knocking around for 20+ years that has been beaten, battered and used in every kind of scenario...but keeps coming back for more. It's let him down once (embarrasingly enough when i borrowed it to use for a string of gigs back in the 90's). It's still going strong and gives a consistently punchy sound. would love to test one of their newer combo's against my old Laney stuff which gives me the tone and flexibiility i need for my gigs
9. Just watching the L42 30th Anniversary dvd - MK's playing on 'World Machine' is sublime - especially one of the fingerstyle passages - just great.
10. Gonna try and find it today - wasn't at my usual source this morning. Thanks for the heads up.
11. go for the DC. you could punt out the Hoppus i'm sure and maybe turn a profit?
12. I'm not entirely surprised though, i worked in a music shop for 18 months and never once got asked for flats (did once get asked if we sold spark plugs though!?). The chance of the shop having in stock the right brand/gauge is almost nil as usually people are pretty specific about that sort of thing.
13.
So now isn't the best time to point out that there's a 4 string bolt on Thumb going for 700 quid in the sale thread? ;-)
You're an evil man :-)
14. I like drummers who have a bit of spark in their playing. I've been fortunate enough as many of you have, to play with some excellent drummers over the years, and i seem to know in the first couple of minutes whether we are going to be a great rhythm section, or just a good one. I currently play with thwo regular drummers, one of whcih plays it 100% by the book, no flash at all, which makes for solidity (is that a real word??) and a great grounding for the guitarists etc, but the other drummers does the same, except with a glint in his eye and knows when just a little hit of the splash cymbal, or a small deviation from the songs standard beat etc would work, to which i'm able to pick up on and follow.
15. I have the same GAS, except for the 4 string version. Thanks goodness Christmas cleaned me out financially
16. I find the weight of my Bubinga Warwick Corvette reassuring. Don't ask me why.
17. I find it shocking that a retailer would be that dishonest. Music shops are going out of business left right and centre at the moment, and i firmly believe one of the things that shops should have over buying on the internet is a level of trust.....which this shop appears not to have. Shame on them.
18. stunning bass, usual story for me (if funds allowed etc......) Good luck with the trade
19. Love or hate the guy, i think he's great, was nice when i was fortunate enough to meet him and agree with the comments about how much he has done for the instrument (plus the profits some bass manufacturers will have seen from him using one of their instruments). He's been a big influence on my playing, and not just the slapping part. Roll on October 28th at the RAH
