Blimey, what happened to the DD?
Duck Dunn is still going strong, it just does not suit the band I am in. I needed a Jazz tone and its perfect for this band. The Duck Dunn will be played at a couple of gig in August and I can't wait. So in my lounge I have a beautiful vibrant red Duck Dunn and an uber cool Lake Placid Blue Darryl Jones. They both look so cool next to each other. -

Up to date one of me with my brand new Lakland Darryl Jones which I bought on Saturday from Happy Jack and is the best bass ever. -
Just bought a sweet MIM 70's Jazz from Linus27. Bass is exactly as he described it. A bomb could have went off in the delivery van, it wouldn't of damaged the bass it was packed so securely. If i had a question it was usually answered within a few hours. My first purchase thru basschat, and it was perfect. Cheers Linus27
Thanks Boab, only just seen this thread. Had no idea it existed so thanks. Great dealing with you also and really pleased you are happy with you new bass.

How do you transport your cab? Casters, dolly, trolly?
Going back to the original thread, I use a fishing trolley I got from Argos. If I don't use that, my drummer carries it out to the car (seriously). He's soooooo keen. P
As in this?? How do you transport your cab? Casters, dolly, trolly?
After doing some more research, I have found out that it is infact, the weight of the magnets in the speakers that are responsible for the weight. What I would suggest is that you remove the weight of these magnets from the cab by removing the speakers. That should make the cab more manageable. That and a lick of white paint... ...and you should be in business! ROCK THE HOUSE DOWN!
Thats just crazy. Why put magnets in a speaker cab? Don't they know thats just going to make it heavier. Good plan, I'm just going to take the speakers out, chuck them in the bin, paint the cab white and jobs a carrot on the end of a fishing rod. -
Noisy hissing Ashdown ABM 500 RC EVO III Head. Is this normal?
Linus27 replied to Linus27's topic in Amps and Cabs
I would suspect the cable if the head is silent until it's plugged in. How is the hiss with no cable, and the valve drive + volume at full?
With the valve dial on full and the input and output on full with no cable attached it is silent. With a cable plugged in, the valve, input and output set at 9pm, you can hear a hissing sound. If I turn the valve to full, or increase the treble dial, the hissing gets louder. I have tried different cables and there is no difference in the hissing sound -

I think its conclusive that unless i can train the Squirrels in the garden, the best bet is going to be a trolly. -
I have a team of 43 midget Ghurkali warriors for the cab and 15 tame trained shrews for the amp..... I carry my bass and leads bag myself though (cant find the staff)
I have an Ashdown head also so 15 just won't be enough. I wonder if I can train some squirrels to do the lot -
Get some white paint and paint it all over the cab. I've heard that the lighter a cab is, the easier it is to carry.
This man is a genius. Why other companies don't do this I don't know -
I once put a Trace 4x10 on fixed castors and it sounded awful as it lost all coupling with the ground. Dolly is preferable. Finding a suitably attractive dolly could be difficult as I'm sure Mrs OBBM would have something to say on the matter.
I'm sure I saw a few suitable dollies tucked away in your garage -
Providing your cab is well sealed I find the easiest thing to do is fill the cab with Helium. It doesn't affect my tone, and allows me to "float" my rig into position. Either a heavey amp sitting on top or sand-bags provide sufficient ballast whilst playing.
The only problem with helium is it can be quite expensive and is in high demand for blowing baloons up. Do you think I could use my own body gasses instead? I do tend to produce a fair amount as confirmed by my wife and on a Thursday after Curry day at work, also confirmed by my wife. -
imo, no. some sort of trolley/board with casters is the way to go.
That certainly would be the easiest way forward. -
I use a lightweight trolley for my 1212L Schroeder, but when I was using heavier Ashdown cabs I used a board with casters. On reflection I think the board was easier to use than my current trolley as the trolley sometimes gets terminal wobble and tips over. Another nice thing about the "skateboard" was that you could pile things on top of the cab; head, pedal board, etc. If you decide to go the board route, don't skrimp on the casters as you'll only end up replacing them with better ones.
I was wondering if its worth putting casters direct onto the bottom of the cab. -
I've just bought a brand new Ashdown ABM 500 Rack mouted EVO III Head. With the speaker connected but volume up, its as silent as a mouse. As soon as I plug my cable into the input socket, it starts to hiss. If I turn the treble dial up the hissing becomes much louder. If I turn the valve blend dial to add more valve, the hissing becomes much louder. I have tried 3 basses and its exactly the same with each bass. I have not tried a different cable yet but it is a brand new cable. I will try a new one to elimate this option. Does anyone else have this head and notice a hissing noise when a cable is connected to the input socket?

Getting an Ashdown ABM 4x10 today and they are not the lightest cabs around. Just wondering how others move their cabs about. On a trolly, attached casters etc. As I am not as young as I used to be, any suggestions or advice appreciated.

The West End Centre in Aldershot is very good. Can you share some good venues you have played at in Wales please.
I've just picked one of these up in a PX deal and I have to say I'm really impressed. Great feel & action, really nicely put together. Much more flexible in terms of sounds than I would have thought from a passive instrument as well. I love the everything full on' tone, again I was surprised they weren't some fancy aftermarket pickups fitted! I'm not a real Fender veteran but this is by far the nicest Fender I've ever played
Stop, your not helping, I really wan't to buy this bass but I can't afford it. I am trying to sell things to get the money but its not working
