  1. Still love the looks of this bass and if its still around when I get back from holiday I would be seriously interested in this if I can get up there to give it a try before I make a decision. I'll let you know my situation when I get back in a few weeks.
  2. Out of interest where are you lcoated as I may be interested once I'm back from holiday in a couple ofnweeks time depending on the level of funds I have left.
  3. The affinity p bass I have is fairly good quality and has served me and my needs well for the past 5 years of hard work as my first ever bass. The sound on it is fairly good and it seems versatile enough to do most styles. Only thing I will say is, as with a few posts above, the finish is quite soft and scratches, chips and dents quite easily, I took a chip out of the paint in about the first week I had it as my strap unhooked when I wasn't holding the bass and it fell to the floor. Other than that it has been a good bass to get me going for the past 5 years.
  4. Thanks for being so accommodating about possibility of postage, I'm located in a place called Petersfield about half an hour north of Portsmouth so its quite a trek for me to get to Wolverhampton and unfortunately I do prefer to try things out before I jump in and spend this much money on these sort of things. So thanks for giving me the option and I'll keep it in mind but it may not be viable for me currently. Sorry
  5. Good luck with the first show.
  6. Love the looks of the bass so much, September can't come soon enough so I can maybe get hold of 1 of these. If only I was nearer to where you are then I would be all over this bass. have a free bump off of me.
  7. Mine would probably be 1 of 2 from the isle of wight festival this year(bear in mind this was my first time ever seeing a band live): Kasabian performing club foot, shoot the runner and underdog back to back to open their set. Or Foo fighters whole set in the saturday night.
  8. If its any consolation, I'm having the same trouble and I'm only 17. All I can say is to do as above, just take it slowly, figure out 1 passage or phrase at a time and then gradually build it up as you get more confident.
  9. Nevada is the location I brought my first ever bass from and I have nothing but praise for the guys who work there and the service they provide. Always willing to help and make recomendations and I may be going back there to get my new bass when the time comes in september.
  10. Kaisers were definately good tonight, saw them live at isle of white a couple of weeks ago amd they certainly know how to put on a show. Bass lines are quite nice and as you said the red/tort gaurd fender is rather nice!
  11. Just been looking at September by earth wind and fire and that's quite a fun line to play when you lock into the groove, can also suggest shoot the runner by kasabian and rules don't stop by we are scientist. Both of those are quite simple to pick up but they are quite enjoyable to play I find.
  12. He seems to be changing his bass about every other song or so but what does it matter, its still some pretty nice bass playing and some very nice bits of kit that he's using.
  13. Anyone watching on bbc 2 now got any idea's what the u2 bassist is, don't know why but I thought he used warwicks but that doesn't look like any warwick I've seen before.
  14. That sounds like it is the sort of thing that I would do as I'm sortnof renound for being rather clumsy, luckily I haven't had it happen so far although in my first ever gig my strap full off amdni had to play half the song till a pause in the bass line on one leg whilst still playing then in the guitar solo the guitarists pick snapped in half, shot off and hit the singer in the back of the head! We got through the song ok but it was certainly an interesing introduction to performances!
  15. Just about to start something called level 3 rock award at college so I'll have a more permanent set list once that gets going as we are assessed on a 25 minute set. In the prep for it so far this year though here's a few of the songs we worked on: I shot the sheriff-Bob Marley Bring me to life-Evanessance Gold Lion-The Yeah Yeah Yeah's Underdog-You Me At Six Shoot the runner-Kasabian Rules don't stop-We Are Scientists Another one bites the dust-Queen Golden touch-Razorlite Black horse and the cherry tree-KT Tunstall Feeling good-Muse When the night feels my song-Bedouin Soundclash September-Earth Wind and Fire Closer to the edge-30 Seconds To Mars Ain't no sunshine-Bill Withers Thats just a selection and I'll hopefully have a more permanent set list once the rock award starts cause as you can see the genres I've done this year is rather varied.
  16. Thanks for the suggestions and sorry for all the typos in the first post, it was early and my i pod seemed to have a mind of its own with the predictive text! I am vering slightly towards the g and l as it is probably the most versatile of the 2 i've tried so far although I'm reserving judgement on the lakland until i have tried it out. The only thing I'd be slightly worried about picking up a second hand stingray is wether I'd be brave enough to use it as I do the majority of my playing in college bands and have to take it on busess and leave it in store cupboard's ect and wouldn't want anything to get damaged on it but I'll see how things go.
  17. Thanks guys, I have been looking arround the for sale section and he silver stingray really tempted me, the problem is cash at the momemt, it is going to be an 18th birthday present so I have to wait until september until I have the cash so it would depend what is arround used at that time. I hav tried out the g and l and the SBMM back to back and they both had a nice feel and sound, the g and l was just a fair bit more versatile than the SBMM because of all of the adjustability. Still yet to find a shop locally that stocks the lakland yet though and in order to try the other 2 back to back I ended up trying them in bristol when I was looking at uni's over there.
  18. Hey, for about 5 years now I have still been playing a squire affinity p bass that I got when I firt started playing in a starter pack however I now want to upgrade to something a bit better. I have a budget of between £500-£600 to spend and I think I have narrowed it down to 3 now: The g and l2000 tribute The sterling by musicman ray34 The lakland skyline 44-01 What I was womdering was if any of you had had any experience with these basses and what you think of them but also if there are any other basses in this sort of price range that you would recomend. Thanks for your help in advance Josh
  19. This bass is soo tempting to me and if it was september now i would be all over this bass however I just don't have the cash currently.
  20. I only have 1 bass at the moment, my squire affinity P-bass, although I am looking at upgrading my armoury with either a g and l tribute l2000, sterling by musicman ray34(ca) or possibly a second hand ernie ball musicman stingray.
  21. Braving out the rain maybe wasn't the brightest decission I made but found the atmosphere in the bands really good although I dont have anything to compare it againat as that was my first festival. Slightly agree onthe kings of leon though, bar on the bucket, sex on fire and use somebody they just didn't seem to totally be with it or connect with the audience. As for plan b, the whole of the set was quite surreal but on the whole I really quite enjoyed it even if I was soaked through after staying out from two door cinema club all the way through to the script. Decided to take cover in the big top after that until kasabian started.
  22. I know i'm slightly late too this but I only just got back on monday and then out of hospital yeasterday, I was there for all 4 days and all i can say is what and amazing weekend and there were some pretty darn good bass performances over the weekend as well. My personal favorite acts were the kaiser chiefs, kasabian and the foo fights just for the sheer scale of the performances they gave and the atmosphere it created, it isnt half scary being right in the middle up against the front railings though with the rest of the crowd trying to push forwards through the whole set!
  23. Thanks for the welcomes guys, and also sorry if I'm not arround much over the next few days as I'm going away then having my knee operated on when i get back. However once thats all over I'll hopefully get a bit more active around here. Once again, thanks for the welcomes. Josh
  24. Hi everyone, my name is josh, I've been playing bass for about 5 years now in various school and college bands on my fender squire affinity p bass and I'm from just outside portsmouth. Music I like includes biffy cliro and two door cinema club but when when it comes to playing stuff I've played everything from reggae to indy rock/pop to metal tracks. Hopefully looking to upgrade gear wise at some point soon and look forward to spending some time here. Josh
