1. May as well put up my first picture! This from my first proper gig with the G and L: EDIT: I'll try and get a couple of other shots up later.
2. It's not "in need" of a respray bar a chip I managed to take out of the paint in the first week of having the bass. It's more that I fancy a change and this seems like a good time to do it as I'll have the bass in bits anyway to put on the new bridge, electronics and pick guard.
3. Wow, that looks really nice, how difficult was it to get the finish done to that level, still deciding whether to refinish mine when I upgrade it or not.
4. Have to say this is really helpful for me looking back through this. I'm considering doing the same to my squire which has exactly the same body colour! Good luck with the rest of the project, I look forward to seeing it finished.
5. I got a blue burst/maple on from the states last year and these are awesome basses, so versatile, enjoy it!
6. Thanks for the help so far guys, could anyone link me a way to contact bass doc and kiogon to try and find out roughly how much it would cost to get the pickgaurd and wiring kit? I'm trying to get this done before I go to uni and want to have something that sounds good but doesn't look good enough to be tempting to steal! I've taken a look at the dimarzios and they are looking quite tempting so I'm going to have to try and decide between them and the wizards before I move on further.
7. I'm thinking of modifying squire affinity p bass with a better pick up (Wizard thumper) and at the same time changing the pick gaurd and bridge. I've go some new rotosound strings to go on it when its done. My questions would be, I'm possibly ordering the bridge from the warmouth site and also possibly the pickgaurd but will the pickgaurd from ordered from there fit on to this bass? Will I need to uprate any of the other electronics (tone and volume controls) in order for the thumpers to work properly? Also is there anywhere uk based that I could get these parts from for a simmilar or cheaper price? Lastly, as this is my first go at modifying a bass have any of you guys with more experience modifying bass got any tips for a someone having their first go at it?
8. My set list is currently: Paramore-loves not a competition The Wombats-moving to new York The view-face for the radio Coldplay-yellow Reel big fish-take on me More songs to be added to the set soon before we have a proper performance. This is for a 3 piece band with 2 guitarists and me on bass.
9. At the moment it's an album by the black keys called el camino. The song lonely boy has been played on the radio quite bit recently and the rest of the album carries on in a similar vain to that.
10. Not sure what his name is but I'm still running through a lot of plan b stuff at the moment so the bassist for him along with the bassist in no doubt having just learnt its my life!
11. Gorillaz-feel good inc The Editors-Munich Plan B-What you gonna do The Wombats-Moving To New York These are probably 4 of my favourites at the moment. All fairly simple but very satisfying to play along to!
12.
No Doubts cover of It's My Life, great fun.
I'd second that, just learnt it having never heard of the band before my bass teacher suggested it and it's a really good fun line to play, especially the prechorus section.
13. After thinking of getting flats for my project a relative of mine who knew nothing about my project sent me some roto flats by complete chance! Also got some money and am looking at a new amp possibly an ashdown eb180-12.
14. Ok, so this is looking like it might be a slightly more substacial project as the bridge is slightly damaged/broken so is probably going to be replaced, thinking of giving it a new pickgaurd as well and a set of flatwound strings. Think the pickup has been narrowed down to either the wizard thumper or the emg p-x but what would you lot recomend for the bridge, strings and pickgaurd, the bass is currently blue if thats any help and I'm not planning on changing that anytime soon.
15. Thanks fkr the tip, if their still up for sale and are up on here can you post a link for me amd I'll take a look.
16. Yeah, the pj option is out of the window, currently looking into the wizard thumpers, seymour duncan spb2's and the emg's mentioned above. Liking tge look of the wizards and they don't seem too expensive overal.
17. 2 for me A g and l l2000 tribute I brought back from new york with me this year and a soon to be modified squire affinity p bass that first got me playing.
18. Thanks for the sugestions everyone, I think if I go for it I'll probably jist stick to a new p pickup rather than trying the pj route since it would be my forst time trying anything like this. I mainly want to get a bit more grunt and power overal on the sound with an emphasis on the lower end of the sound spectrum. This bass has done a great job for me gtting me actually into playing bass but ot just lacks that bit off power I'm finding, esspecially when I run it back to back after using the g and l.
19. Having seen some of you guys bass builds and mods its got me seriously tempted to trying to modify my second bass, a squire affinity p bass, with either just a new single pickup or possibly trying to put in a pj setup. I was just wondering what pickups you guys would recomend if I went for just a new p pickup and if it would be feasable to try and put a pj setup into it with not a lot of work being done to the bass itself?
20. First Bass Owned: Squire Affinity P-Bass 'Go To' Bass: G and L L2000 Tribute 'Your' Bass: G and L L2000 Tribute As you can probably tell I only have 2 basses!
21. Downloaded this finally yeasterday and I'm actually quite enjoying this album, esspecially even you brutus?, happiness loves company and factory of faith. Also managed to learn my first chilli pepers bass line, the adventures of rain dance maggie although the chorus is still causing me a few problems.
22. Thanks for letting me know that about the preamp, didnt realise it wasnt a true "active pre-amp" in the more common meaning of it. I'll try and get some pics of the bass uploaded tomorow evening. I'm still sort of getting used to all the adjustability of it compared to the single tone control squire!
23. After my previous post about deciding between the lakland, sterling by musicman and g and l l2000 tribute I finally took the plunge when we were in the states earlier this month and got my hands on a blueburst/maple g and l l2000 tribute. What can I say!, It's an absolute monster compared to my old squire p and so much more versatile which was exactly what I needed due to the amount of variation between the stuff that I'm playing at the minute. Thanks alot for the help and advice in choosing this bass. Just 1 thing, any of you guys who has also got 1 of these, what settings are some of your favourites? I'm quite liking the neck pick up soloed with the pre amp on in series with the bass up and the treble off. Takes a bit off getting used to going from a single tone control passive squire to all the tone options of the g and l but I'm loving it! Thanks again guys. Josh
24. Hey guys, a few questions as its my first time flying with a bass as I may be buying a new 1 in the states next week. First of all I am looking at a g and l l2000 tribute and was hoping you guys could recommend me a good hard case to transport it in and help survive the flight but still be usable for taking the bass to college. Also what other tips other than getting a hard case would you recommend to help me make sure the bass survives the flight. Many thanks Josh
25. Still interested although it may be a longish trip for me to collect or try out before I commit to a purchase.
