1. I had then to drill pilot holes thru the veneer to get the controls sorted, the earth from the bridge etc...major stress, 1 bit of lacquer splintered, phew, then got the ferrules back in the holes in the body so I could attach the neck, split some lacquer off, the shard super glued back on perfectly...more stress !!! Then the tone and vol pots wernt long enough to start the thread, found longer ones, finally both pups arrived and slotted in perfectly, then it was wire up time. Wired up, it was nearly ok, just let a ground off, redid it, all perfect, except the new switchcraft jack is still crap, hate them things. strings and a crank of the truss rod and all done for the weekend.
2. Thanks, so next step was body repair and refinish, I went for a maple veneer top, the pick up holes were sleeved and re routed to the size of the MFD pups, the original holes for the screws were still evident in the body as were the springs for the height adjustment.. one of the problems the luthier had was bleeding from the grain of leos original primer so the lacquer tint had to be a bit deep than we wanted. The headstock face was stripped and has had the L2000 decal added, someone had added an extra string tree to the headstock and this wouldnt stop bleeding green from the drilled hole !, so there is a little shadow of green on the filled hole, but not big deal. Next...assembly.
3. I found a usa tail piece and two guys had an mfd pick up, I traded the hipshot tuner for a trib pre amp and switches, purchased 3 knobs of e bay, got some pots and caps, found a used set of schallers of e bay. I had 2 strap buckles and I will deal with the body in the next post. Theres a pic of the half chiseled out plastic padding car filler, also both cavity's had been routed out bigger than the g&l pick up size. also the newly built up tailpiece. The body turned out to be swamp ash which was a result. but needed a solution to the problem with the top, see next post.
4. If anyones interested, I have a series of pics, I got a dead trib of the bay for £100 and proceeded to make it what it was, but had issues on the way but ultimately finished it this week. its a G&L L2000 again. This is what I got an un wired, 1 big pup that ruined 1 cavity,no active or anything worth keeping the other pickup hole filled with plastic padding bass, painted white over green over red, basically a pile of poo.
5. there is a big essex posse, welcome.
6. I love this, I have a faultless L2500 in tobacco burst, any interest ???
7. Its weird, the number made may be around 400, Ive got 2 el toros, 1 passive and 1 active, those pups are amazing, leo and george were on a weird mission with these and the interceptor too, I agree with Noelk27, but gutting an interceptor for me is a bit tragic, can I have the leftovers please ! as its a fairly rare bird, albeit a bit spandex and 80's. the wiring is such that you have the normal front, both or rear pickup, active off, on and treble boost, vol, tre and bass, then the switch which normally does series paralell doesnt do that , it puts both pups in series ( I may be wrong ) and overrides everything and is dub city, absolutly earth shatteringly loud and bassey. That one on the bay started at 600 and has been falling as theres been no bids. There was an 84 with original case, 1 owner and immaculate that didnt sell recently, so there you go. 8. Is it in relation to the breaker on e bay ??? they are very 80's looking, limited number made, some maple bodies, heavy, some alder or ash, same as the el toro with two slim 4 pole humbuckers per string, the switches are as per g&l except for the middle switch which is normal mode or wtf ? or omg mode, its kinda both pups running in kill mode, necks are factory options but not the skinny number 8. if you open up the electrics theres so much in there your mind goes...
9. Four of my sextuplets, the other two hadnt arrived when this was taken.
10. I have rumblefish GAS but thats a tad dear... :-(

12. Hi, Thanks thats great, ive ordered 2 alpha 250 k pots, interestingly my L2k usa models have a 2 meg reverse log bass pot, so they do have a little difference there for some reason, but maybe theres a cap added or somthing, who knows.
13. When that model SB2 is in the middle position you get a beautiful kind of out of phase funk sound thats fabulous. dont forget its the early pre lawsuit headstock one....
14. @ Protium, It came gutted so ive no idea, @neepheid, thank you, I do have this diagram already, but it says usa models only, so im thinking the jap and korean ones are possibly different, or maybe not, otherwise I will use that diagram. Thanks.
15. Hi, Im a youthful little 50 year old, south east based and am looking for pro or semi pro gigs, I like to play and dig what I do, so all styles considered, transport, good gear, reliable etc etc...thank you.
16. Hi I got a gutted trib L2k, Im now rewiring it and it takes split shaft pot but does anyone know the values, I think the bass is 1 meg but im not sure on the treble and vol, as I think it a bit different to the usa modles, but...might not be ! thanks.
17. I use 2 1x12 neos and popped one, thomman too dear and complicated as there was a warrantee issue and couldnt sort it unless I returned the cab to germany...oh dear!, polar as much use as a turd and over priced and novice to the gk scene, bob gallien and his team suck, many e mails and got nowhere, as it was still in warranty, so I put a 300w celestion neo in it at £74, the two cabs sound the same, job done, get on with gigging, I love gk but hate their attitude and aftersales outside the us.
18. Hi, If you look thru past threads there were some guys searching for a stick...
19. Hi, For a tenner I'll have em, if thats not being too cheeky, but if it is, then ignore me. regards, Nigel.
20.
I'm interested in the 1989 Fender signature thing as I have an '89 L-1000 with Leo Fender signature on. Anyone know more about this controversy?
Ive a few with the leo fender sig logo on the headstock decal, just though it was his way of saying, look its me ???
21.
One problem i have with the G&L's is that the quality just isn't consistent. Don't know if this was just me, but i have played 5, and owned one.. Some were great and others were shocking.. (all USA not tribute) Unfortunately the one i owned wasn't the best of the bunch. My problem with them is the electronics seem to be trying to be too clever, so when mine went a bit haywire, could'nt find anyone willing to delve into the maze of wires. Saying that the great ones were great, love the finishes they do. In my opinion, if you choosing between a tribute G&L and Stingray - stingray wins everytime. If you are choosing between USA g&l and stingray, try both and see how they feel.. i really would think twice about buying a g&l online without playing it... but you could say that about any bass :S i think im trying to say, try both guitars lol! sorry, ive confused myself
I cant complain about consistancy as ive purchased used instruments and theyve been fine, the pre amps had a problem with the main chip frying in the early 90's but they sorted that, theres really no more active stuff in them than 1 pcb and the associated pots etc... and ive rewired 2 of mine no probs, not too bad and about the same inside the cavity as a ray, the only nightmare was the el toro / interceptor, it seems to have tons of caps n wiring. some of the body weights are an issue, they go from around 9 lb's to 14 lb's depending on the wood.
