I ended up with a Certainbass p, '61 style, sunburst, tort guard, chunky neck and SD antiquity 2 p/up, looks the bizz and sounds perfect...
-
you gotta start somewhere...so how about: start with your budget (what would fit new or s/h), then your eyes (visit a bass emporium to look at as many as possible), then your fingers (does it feel right) and finally your ears (does it sound right)...?

Sam just bought my beloved and trusty Stingray5, paid swiftly, sorted out issues with the paypal fees immediately and helped me find the best deal for the shipping, all in all a very pleasant selling experience for my part and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone in the future!

The .5 has a tweeter/bullet whereas the other doesn't... I had 4.5xl cabs years back and they were v nice...
-
yes I had it (even though I hate tennis), I basically had to rest it completely for about 3 months and take regular ibuprofen to reduce swelling, it gradually went away and having gradually reintroduced activities (like playing bass - oddly drumming never caused it to even twinge!) I am now back at full speed with everything and no longer have the pain (except infreuqnelty if I've been stupid).
Feels fine - doesn't feel unbalanced at all. And the double case can be handy if you're travelling - take one bass and use the other section for clothes.
Superb, thanks matey!

I've been wanting to ask someone about them, how easy is it to just put one bass in them? ie do they feel unbalanced or odd if you do that and would you therefore have a single gig bag for those occasions? I'd like a dbl gig bag but sometimes I really only need one bass? Has anyone tried this please? Andy

I currently have rotosound flats on my '61 style p-bass and while they sound the real deal for motown stuff they are v high tension!

Indeedy, you're clearly going quite as daft as you thought!
I used to use Lakland nickels and loved them. You can order Lakland strings direct from their website. I felt they were pretty close to XL's, my favourite string. They were pretty cheap, especially if you order a couple of packs at the same time. I tihnk they were about £21 inc postage for a 5 string set back the. I did try the SS strings and did like them, they did seem a bit mellower than the usual SS i've tried in the past. I think they are made by GHS, and some people say you might as well just get those but i couldnt find an identical set so wne tfor the Laklands.
That's fab, thanks Dave! ...apparently they put D'addario's on the Skyline series now...the strings on mine have coloured ball-ends, just been confirmed by Brian Gingrich at Lakland! Presume they're cheaper than the GHS made ones in this time of squeezed margins!
The matamp book is also a good read. Cheaper to. Bet its on better quality paper and printed in the uk rather than china to
Like

I've recently bought a Lakland 55-01 Ltd edition and am loving it! I see from the Lakland website that it has Lakland strings (LCWS5 strings - 5 string medium 45-128), these are stainless steel strings whereas I normally use Nickel ones... I do however really like them (mostly because they don't quite feel like stainless strings to me, more like a halfway house, less harsh than steel but still very snappy sounding), has anyone tried the Lakland Nickel ones and are they any good? I've seen another Lakland string topic (http://basschat.co.uk/topic/116410-lakland-replacement-strings/page__p__1072372__hl__lakland__fromsearch__1#entry1072372) but it doesn't really cover the what or the 'how nice' of the strings as it focuses mainly on the 'where do I get them'... ta

Just sold a pack of strings to Tom, paid instantly and kindly let me know they'd arrived, mellow, lovely guy to exchange email banter with! Thanks matey

One brand new pack of unused, unopened and still sealed up, factory fresh Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky Bass Strings 45-105. I no longer have a 4 string bass I would use these on. £16.50 a set new (or £15.50 if you buy more than 3) from HotRox UK. (a bit blurry but you get the idea!) £12.50 posted within UK?

I hate intermittent problems! You feel like such a spoon when it doesn't do it and the engineer is looking at it!! The amp's been checked out and may not then be the issue... A few questions pop into my head... Does it happen in particular venues as compared to others or is it just all the time? Could it be related to the venue wiring maybe? Does your power come from a particular power reel? Have you tried using the same power reel at home? Do you use a power conditioner? A

Hi, I'm considering selling my 2007 Stingray 5, Natural, Rosewood, Tort guard, OHSC. The pickup was replaced in 2009 as a coil on the original had gone down. The replacement is also pukka EBMM and was supplied by Strings & Things and fitted by Stuart at Electromusic in Doncaster (he had to do a slight mod on the pickguard as the replacement pickup is the newer shape whereas the original ws the older shape), sounds fab, superb MM flexibility and organic mid warmth! Would be looking for £950? or a trade for a Lakland 55-02 (natural/rosewood)...
It's a lovely bass but this is the tempting bit. . . "To day a nobody next week on your way to a life of stardom."
ambitious advertising indeed!

bit short on pictures of any important details...so while the pickup looks about the right shape, what's on the front of the headstock?
