1. I've used a bit of old cot mattress foam and it's doin great so far... got plenty left if you want some?
 2. I have a 55-01 and have a 55-02 on order, I've tried a 44-02 in the gallery in london and it sounds good to me...the mm at the bridge gives the usual mm fatness but with more clarity, the preamp has 'dip switches' inside that enable you to select the frequency of cut/boost from the mid-range, you can also select which coil of the mm is used (one, t'other or both) and also blend that with the neck single coil pup... I like the string spacing, it's a little wider than my ray's were. The build quality of them is great, the hardware is great, I'm well pleased with my 55-01 and looking forward to my 55-02
 3.
Bugger Any direction you can point me in to obtain a copy?
this is the normal release one, can't find the bootleg... 4. I'd be emailing James at diago, he's been v helpful for me in the past, also check their website cos there's a compatibility chart on there too http://www.diago.co.uk/pedal-power/diago-micropower9.html http://www.diago.co.uk/powerstation_compatibility.html the list contains all the pedals he's been asked about, I can't see Markbass on either list so I'd email him direct! ("][email protected])
 5.
The next member from this forum to get a CertainBass gets a free Varitone! Peace, David
Welcome matey!
 6. the specs on their website indicate that they're exactly the same apart from the pickups / electronics and finishes / 'fancy top' options that are available
 7.
good luck with the sale, I've just popped mine up on ebay so hopefully that will get some attention - it's always a shame to have to sell such a great amp! Cheers
Good luck matey!
 8.
I spoke to a well known British bass builder a while back and asked how long it takes him to a build a bass from scratch including neck, body, custom active circuit and winding the pickups and he said 2 weeks I asked if that included letting the paint harden and polishing time and he said sure, 2 weeks from start to finish. But he made it clear that he never gets the chance to focus purely on building only one bass, he's always got urgent repairs and setups, sourcing of figured wood, hardware, accounts, phone and emails to answer, shows to attend. Plus a waiting list for new builds. As a result it can take up to 12 months to get a bass from him.
a good insight, thanks!
 9. General comment...It's funny the way loads of folks have opinions (rather strong at times) without actually having met the item in question. I can say that my Certainbass p is loads better than the fender p's I've had and possibly the vintage p's I've tried too...and cost about the same for what is (Fender at least) a mass produced item
 10.
That's very interesting... particularly the stuff about Varitone... http://www.certainba...m/varitone.html I have to admit I've not come across this before.
I don't have a varitone but I've heard them and they do sound rather nice... the sample that plays on their website is him on his varitone'd bass...
 11. Dave's latset newsletter does a comparison to a US fender which you may find helpful... http://www.certainbass.com/news/nl021212.html
 12.
What are the practical advantages of making say, a neck from scratch as opposed to buying a top-quality neck that looks and plays how you want it to? If the latter is acceptable then is there any good reason why you shouldn't go down that road (without taking cost into consideration)?
If either way means you end up with a neck that feels good and marries up with the bass body then the main differences would be cost and convenience wouldn't they?
 13.
Hehe! Yeah, I know...late to the party yet again! Using my iPhone and it doesn't let me know if there have been any other posts whilst I am typing
14.
After having been over at Osprey Guitars yesterday I know where my money would go if I could afford a custom build! Rich makes a beautiful bass - note the word 'makes' and not 'puts together'!
Any ballpark figures for a passive Jazz bass?
 15.
Really?? I don't mean to be critical as I have no idea what set up the workshop has and how many staff are there, but that sounds like an off the shelf build rather than a custom build.
Back to around post 13 matey
 16.
That's a very generous offer, thanks! I'm in SE London ... we do have trains though, so can I get back to you on that one? Thanks again.
Not a problem matey!
 17. slightly off topic (but not very far methinks) will someone tell me how much their passive Shuker jazz actually was?
 18. Mr Discreet, where abouts are you? I'm in Sheffield, you're welcome to pop over and have a nosy at my p-bass?
 19.
I am fairly sure there was some kind of upset either here or maybe Talkbass regarding the fact basically all this gentleman does is buy OEM parts and put them together, the nuts he hand cuts from blanks but other than that they are really just bitsa basses, granted good ones but nowhere near as solid as something you can get from a true bespoke builder (of course for a bit more money!) EDIT, the higher end models are 1200 dollars plus, then count into that shipping and import duty for something built out of a kit... Go see Mr Shuker, wait a bloody age but get something truly hand made for the same maybe even less money.
He's open about buying bodies, necks and hardware in, in his defence he does buy really really nice ones! If they expected him to build a completely hand built custom bass then I'd suggest they hadn't read his website very carefully. Once you've converted from dollars to pounds and added on import duty and vat it was more or less the same price in dollars as it was in pounds (ie 1:1) The bone nut on mine is spot on, the assembly is superb, he re-does the neck pockets so they're super-snug and marries the bridge to the body perfectly, despite not being 'string through body' my p resonates unlike any fender I've ever tried (and I've had a few), it's much more like the piano like Lakland I have! No dead spots either!
 20. I ordered it in the February and received it at the start of October, he had a few hiccups on the way which he was very open about, he also relocated during that time and I changed the spec on him too, he's quoting pretty quick build times now though (4-6 weeks ish I think)
 21. Yep, I have one and I love it! It's a '61 P-bass Jameson funk-machine remake and it sounds and feels perfect (especially strung with flats and with a bit of foam under the strings near the bridge), price was v good for how great it feels! His comms were superb, he kept me up to speed with progress and was willing to chat endlessly about details and random stuff. I got it in 2010 and it cost just under £800 including shipping etc and hard case (at the time)... I've recently started making enquiries about him making me a custom shop style '61/'62 stack knob jazz fretless and it's looking like about £1100 ish (inc shipping etc)
 22. It's a superb blu-ray! Vinnie Calaiuta is an amazing drummer too! Watch the audience shots too, there're some v famous names hiding in the shadows looking v impressed by the band!
 23.
Bump for a great amp. I used to know Martin through 18watt.com too - great bloke as well as a good builder.
Thanks matey, Martin's a great chap indeed! makes a lovely brew and has a very exciting garage!
