1.
it wont increase in value. to put it bluntly
There's no way you can be sure of that.
2.
From the moment I first pugged it in (as a jazz bass) i never really got on with the deep tone. I felt compared to my HW-1 Jazz bas sit lacked clarity and punch. Even changing the pups to Nordstrands didnt really help. In all other respects i loved the bass and given the choice again, i would definitly keep it. I belive its been converted to active and back again since i sold it. I wonder who has it now.
Interesting that the bass kept its core sound even after changing the pickups. I don't know where the bass is now but when I played it, it was owned by markbass555 who also lives in N Ireland. He might still have it. I know he's a big Lakland fan. frank.
3. That's lovely!!! I've sent you a PM asking for some advice on these beauties. Frank.
4.
I always thought the 70's jazzes had a neck tilt function operated by an small screw on the neck plate. Have you tried this? It might help you get the action lower.
Correct!! These are really, really great basses. My advice would be to keep it for a while and gradually adjust the set up until you like it. You've bought a bargain bass there. Spend some time with it. Don't sell too quickly. It'll come good. Frank.
5.
I did this with my Lakland DJ5. Actually i had the gallery do it. It worked pretty well IMO. I never really got on with the bass so sold it but i do now regret it. I think its still doing the rounds on here. I believe the Sadowsky PJ's allow you to change the pup between a P and a J, and come with 2 pick guards, each cut differently to allow either pup to be used. my one used a normal Jazz pick guard that the Gallery cut to fit the front pup but i think the Sadowsky one is a bit longer, allowing the front pup to sit where it should be on a P (this is from memory, and never having owned one)
Apologies for going slightly off topic but I've played this bass Dave and it's a cracker. Well set up and very lightweight. A real gem. What didn't you like about it? Frank.
6. I had an American deluxe jazz and it did sound very good. Pretty much like a passive jazz to my ears with the additional flexibility of the preamp. Mine was an older one though, not the current range. Don't write off the MIM classic 70s jazz with bound and blocked neck. I have one but I also have an American Vintage 75 reissue jazz and there's little difference between them considering the extra £1000 you'd pay new for the US bass. I'd honestly be happy to keep the MIM and sell the US if I had to reduce the collection. The MIM really is that good. Frank.
7.
Hey, thank you all for the opinions. I don't really like the relic too, but I was sort of interested in the fiesta red road worn version. Oh well. Does anybody recommend other finishes on P and J??
The MIM Fender classic 70s jazz is basically the same bass as the road worn jazz but for a lot less cash and much better looking but that is only my preference on the looks. My Fender classic 70s jazz is finished in 3 tone sunburst with bound neck and block fret markers. A classic look for the jazz bass. I gigged mine last night through a Markbass LMII and Barefaced Compact and Midget stack. What a great sound. I've seen these 70s classics sell for less than £400 used which is a stocking bargain. Even the new price is a steal. Frank.
8.
One of these? http://www.maplin.co...s-socket-223988 N39GB
Many thanks to everyone for your responses. Basschat at its best. Frank.
9. Some time ago there was a thread on here about jack sockets suitable for a Warwicks, being sold at a very reasonable price by Maplins. (I think?) It's for my Warwick Streamer stage II from 1997. If my memory is correct on this, can anyone help with a Maplins part number? Thanks in advance. Frank.
10. Just to add to the thread......A pair of Barefaced Midgets? They are fitted with superior drivers to every other cabinet mentioned in this thread and well priced for what they offer. Smaller, louder and lighter too. I don't own a pair, I just own one. (which I use on its own, or with my Compact.for bigger gigs) But I think a pair must be great option for someone looking for a lightweight solution. Frank.
11. Balls, I bought a brand new Blackstar HT5 in this colour just two weeks ago thinking I'd NEVER get a used one in the Artisan colour. For anyone thinking about buying this, you're saving £100 and they are just lovely amps for home use and rehearsals. You could just about gig with it too if miced. Good luck with the sale and have a bump. Frank.
12. If you're worried about (and expecting?) damage to the bass why buy new? Surely a bass that already has a few dents and scuffs will feel more suitable. I can imagine how you'll feel when you brand new shiny bass gets its first wallop. Frank.
13.
For sure the 2*10 traveler packs a punch for its size. I just want to grab a little more low end than the cab has to offer, so thats what prompted thoughts regarding a markbass 1*15. Did you find using the two 2*10 cabs generated a little more low end?. why do you find this set up superior to using the 1*15? thanks for your response
I don't think you'll get more bottom end by adding a 15" traveller cab. If anything, the 2 x 10 seems marginally fuller. And it's best to use two cabs the same. If you want to go deeper, I think you're going to have to go for bigger boxes. Some good advice above regarding the Markbass standard 2 x 10 too. That would be a better option if you're looking for more bottom end. Then again, if you want massive lows you could look at the Barefaced range. There's bound to be something there to suit you. And they are great value for your money. Frank.
14. I had this setup and went for a pair of 2 x 10 traveller cabs. I'd recommend that setup as opposed to a 1 x 15 which I also had. if you stack the pair of 2 x 10 on their sides it has the added benefit of getting the sound up closer to your ears. (A single traveller 2 x 10 is surprisingly loud if you listen from out front.) Frank.
15. These are great basses. Take your time. The right trade will come eventually. And you get a bump.... Frank.
16. First, a VHT Special 6. NOW SOLD. Roland Cube 30 also SOLD. I bought this all valve amp only a few months ago and totally love the sound. Don't be fooled by the 6 watt rating. Totally unmarked condition. I'm only selling due to buying a Blackstar HT5 combo yesterday in a moment of weakness. (After playing the VHT and the HT5 today, the clean tones and slightly cranked tones from the the VHT are better than the HT5 to my ears. The HT5 does a highly overdriven sound better at lower volumes though and that suits me as a bedroom player who only ever gigs on bass. This VHT is a marvel at any price. Stick a mike in front of it and it'll be a great gigging amp too.) The amp will come with the footswitch, (still in box) manual and in the original box for shipping. You would think that this is a new amp. It's 100% perfect and a joy to play through. These are £129.99 new in Dawsons. I'm asking £100 or make me an offer. It boasts a footswitchable Gain Boost feature that significantly expands its range of tones -- it's the only amp in its class that excels at both clean and overdriven tones, and it's the only amp in its class to offer a footswitchable boost. With the Gain Boost, players can instantly toggle between clean rhythm tones and overdriven leads, essentially duplicating the footswitchable functions of a 2-channel amp in an all-tube, handwired, simple, 2-knob package. To further expand its range of tones, the Special 6 also features a High/Low power switch that enhances low-volume tones with extra-smooth richness (when in half-power mode). It's a great feature for recording, or for low-volume "bedroom" players. In high-power mode, it's one of the few amps in its class that is loud enough to compete with a strong drummer. 17. Sorry, double post. Please ignore. Frank <<<<<<<<<<<<< Dcik.

19. Welcome Bert, I know you'll enjoy the bass. Especially if you can play in a full band with drums. By the way, I've lived and worked for short periods in Norway. In Sandefjord, Horten, Kristiansand, Stavanger and others.. Lovely, but too expensive. Frank.
20. 80oz magnets? Whooooooooo.....................Wait......?
21.
The MIM Classic has a hard poly finish. The road worn is a thinner nitro finish so supposedly gives more resonance. Not sure whether that's correct, but the road worns do play and feel amazing.
Thanks Simon, I doubt that my hearing would notice the difference in sound due to the finish, still, I'd love to try the RW series. They get praise from everyone who tries them, so there must be something in it. Frank.
22. I'm not sure but I thought the RW jazz was the same bass as the MIM classic 70s jazz except for the finish. Can anyone confirm if that's correct? Frank.
23.
Got any pic's to post up
No, but I'll try to get some. It also has a custom black pearl pick guard and BadAss III bridge. I'm fitting a three-way switch similar to the G&L L2000 set up so you can have either neck or bridge pickup or both if you want to go all mellow..... lovely. I'll have to put it all back together for the pics so don't expect them too quickly. Frank.
24. I have a Fender 51 reissue with a Seymour Duncan SD3 and another SD3 in roughly the jazz bridge position. Works well and sounds massive. Frank.
25. I agree on the neck dive. I've never had that problem on any Streamer. Streamers are very good ergonomically. Strange one that Jesso. Have you tried adjusting the strap length? The Streamer LX is a superb bass. Mine was light in weight, fantastic looking and the sound was just perfect. I lost a fair bit of money on mine when I sold it. Apart from money, the other reason I sold it was that I was far too precious about damaging it on a gig and it took the pleasure of owning it and playing it away from me. So I passed it on with genuine regret. Frank.
