1. Just watching…out of my league
2. There were a couple of serious collectors (one U.K. one USA) head-to-head for that one. Pretty rare bass though.
3. Lovely colour bass, looks like it's in great condition. Good luck with the sale.
4.
Thanks mark hope you enjoyed the sound of that bass, to me it just sounds awesome totally happy with it . cheers George
I certainly did thanks George; it sounds as good as it looks too, superb bass. Many thanks!
5. Was that one from the Glasgow store George? Love to hear a sample if you have time. Cheers.
6. Hello Tony, that's a very nice collection you have there - love the 1998 PT, great colour Fireglo on that one...let me know if you get tired of it! Time to look for a Rick bass isn't it?
7. Very nice George, great colour and a little flamed maple on the body too. Congrats lovely bass, I would have like to have got one myself.
8. The seller quoted me $616.16 or $360 (depending on the service) for posting to England, so unfortunately it's not a good end price. Fireglo is pretty rare for this model and the seventies Fireglo on that is very sweet indeed. There's a white 3001 listed today too, but it looks like it has a couple of worrying cracks at the neck/body. Getting a proper Rickenbacker case for these would be pretty tricky too. 9. Congratulations, that is a fab looking bass. Love it.

12. Wow, what a great looking and sounding bass that is. That would be great for rocksteady & reggae. Sweet.
13. I think that is a name - they usually have the names of RIC workers scrawled at factory inspection stages. Model numbers and finish colours are also common. Is that a white '74?
14. It looks like a real 4001 to me. The back of the headstock shows a faint centre section line between the tuners. The (post 1971) 4001 had a dark shedua "skunk" stripe down the middle, the 4003 did not. Try to scrape a little paint off of the area under the truss rod cavity to be sure - there may be an area to check this by the tail piece which is clear of paint already by the look of it. Both the 4001 and the 4003 have dual truss rods George. The horns are huge even after the edge sanding to remove the binding rout and so I would put it between 1980 and 1985, probably edging towards 84-85.
15. That's a good strong blue, nice.
16. The "specials" last year were a selection of guitars for the opening of Guitar Guitar in Epsom (I think). It was a load of very high priced top end guitars - the 381 and 325 re-issues etc. Nothing different as such, but selected especially for the store opening by the company. The Japanese RIC distributors requested specials too for their anniversary last year - the got some very nice white with CB 4003s.
17.
Is this a new colour?
Limited special order for Guitar Guitar - 25 only. The new (standard) colour is Ruby, although we probably won't see one until May.
18. George - Is it from Graham?
19. Congrats George, very sweet looking bass. RIC have moved to Caribbean Rosewood for the fretboard - it looks good on yours.
My third post on this thread, honestly... as Lozz says, this should be WAAAAY gone by now. Interesting it also has the somewhat sought-after split PG, not something you see very often (must have been an early 80's thing, my '82 has the same? Ric aficionados im sure can enlighten us)
Early 4003 models had an updated truss rod design and for some reason they were made to be adjustable from the body end - hence the split guard to access them, without the need for taking the whole control panel off. It wasn't that successful a method (fiddly), it was dropped and the adjustment moved back the headstock as per the previous 4001 and 4000 models. Have a new years eve bump!
21. That sounds sweet. You could try by-passing the cap with a little wire (as a temp reversible mod) and if you like the sound of it, invest in a VT switch later. The body shape/horns look nice and slim just like the new ones. Great bass, well done!
22. Wow, that is one beautiful bass! I'm really pleased it worked out for you. It actually looks better than the pics in the listing, really really nice colour. Congrats. What does the neck feel like in comparison with the 2011 4003 you had to return?
