1.
And looking cool doesn't mean looking young. It's all about using what you have. I've never been a particularly attractive looking person, but I know how to make the best of what I have and how to perform like I mean it. If you don't believe in yourself it's unlikely that anyone else will.
True in every respect, not just in music!! And happy birthday, BTW
  2. I'm over 50 and a beginner. I've got no hope of making it. I'd just like to start it !!
  3. Spooky. It's like the ghostly rattling of a snare drum when someone's forgotten to turn off the snare (or whatever the technical term is). I've often thought that would make a good ghost story.
  4. 'Do it like a dude'. Like the attitude
  5. It's so sad when a partner resents their other half's wlrok/hobbies/inerests. I've sometimes seen this happen with actors in various theatre groups I've been in over the years. Talented people who gradually become less involved and eventually stop all together. I find it incredibly frustrating that the partners destroy the very thing probably attracted them in the first place! But I also find you can't fight it really. It's like dealing with an alcoholic.. they can't stop until they're ready! Eventually some of them see the light and come back to the fold, but in the meantime you just have to write them off and leave them to their miserable sofa-bound existance, and look round for some new talent. Hope your guitarist can break free before it's too late!
  6. I agree it would be good to be a bit further north for the next one. But the Worcester venue sounds great to bear in mind for the future, if that's OK with Nugget.
  7.
'Needless Wittering' by The Secretaries 'Relentless Whining' by Work Colleagues 'Whirr' by My Desk Fan
I used to have to listen to Intermittent Flatulence by The Boss Luckily I's starting in a new office on Monday!
  8.
The problem with requesting stuff that's so iconic and so often heard is that the resultant connotations thereafter are not always considered. My step dad had Freebird played at his and for years afterwards the songs meaning had changed for me so drastically that I actually felt sad every time I heard what had hitherto been a favourite "rocking out" song.
My Mum had 'Thank you for the music' by Abba at her funeral. She'd always said she wanted that, long before she got ill. (She was an ex dancer, choreographer and general theatre luvvie) It still makes me sad when I hear it, but in a good way really. 'I've been so lucky, I am the girl with golden hair...' gets me every time.
  9.
Hi guys, don't know whether you've seen but a few of us have been discussing a West Midlands Bass Bash. As Birmingham and Nottingham aren't all that far away, what about linking up for one big Midlands Bass Bash? It would be good to get as many people together as possible IMHO. What do you think?
I'd be up for that. I think a school venue is a good idea to get multiple rooms and decent parking. No idea how much that would cost though. Maybe we could start checking out possibilitied in our own areas and then compare? I'm in south Birmingham BTW.
  10.
Hmmm..... don't know what's the best thing to do at the moment........ I just want to go to a Bass Bash!
Yeh, me too! I see you've posted on the Nottingham thread now. I'll join you over there, lol
  11. 25 years ago yesterday! I didn't realise. Thanks for posting
  12. Yes, maybe interested parties could meet up at the Nottingham Bash and talk tactics! We'll need to keep an eye on both threads. I see they are having second thoughts about their dates now.. This is all getting a bit complex isn't it?
  13.
Hey, yeah - I can't say I remember donning a blonde wig that day!!
Yes, and I forgot me false beard
  14. Have a look at the Nottingham Bash thread. They've set up a poll regarding venue and dates which looks like a good idea! But thinking about dates...the Nottingham crew are looking at dates in November. I wonder if that would clash a bit with a WM Bash .. I suspect there are people who could go to either one. Do you think we should look at dates in the New Year? Give us a bit more time to plan? Or maybe have a small event (ie in one room) this side of Christmas to test the water, and if that goes well aim for a biger one later on? (Sorry if I'm interfering here. Politely tell me to butt out if you've got other plans!)

  16.
Ok; last lot of photos taken on my Blackberry Curve which has a really bad quality camera so the pictures are quite grainy.. but hopefully the vibe comes through which is what matters! Still haven't quite sussed out the new site though in terms of uploading photos properly??
Great pics! They make me look as though I actually know what I'm doing. But IT'S ALL A LIE!
  17.
I think that sounds like a good plan, my only concern is that people might not notice it in the events forum. Maybe we can get a sneaky mention in on some of the other forums, or put it in our sigs so that people notice when we post?
Good point. The list for the SE Bash was actually started before the events forum was set up, and then moved over. So they already had a fair bit of interest before the thread moved. But on the other hand I wouldn't want to fall foul of the mods by posting in the wrong forum! You'd have to be a bit sneaky I guess. The signature idea sounds good, once we know what we're doing!
  18.
Sounds good, enquire away! As Seashell said though, it might be a good idea if we could have a couple of rooms or something. I could do a workshop about "How to pretend to be a competent bass player"........ I really want to have a get together, but does anyone know how we go about rounding people up? I had never looked in the "Events" forum 'til recently!
I think first we'd need to find out the cost of a venue and then work out the minimum number of people you'd need to make it pay. (The entry fee for the SE Bash was £10 a head and any surplus went to charity). Then you ask people to put their names down on a post here and see how many you get. Do you think that would work?
  19. Speaking as a punter, one of the best local gigs I've seen was a 3 piece covers band where the drummer and bass player were both deps! They had both played with the singer/guitarist at some point in the past but never with each other (if you see what I mean). They really gelled on the night, and the audience really enjoyed it. They let the audience into the secret and made fun of it - not in an unprofessional way though. They were top class musicians. They did the longest version of 'Whole Lotta Love' I have ever heard, as none of them could seem to find a way to the ending, but they made that into a joke and took the audience along with them. Still remember that as being great fun to watch
  20. It's gotta be Led Zep. - In my Time of Dying.
  21.
Eagles - Desperado, no other song better describe pretty much my whole life.
A mate of mine had this played at his funeral. Not a dry eye in the house.
  22. I'd be up for this, especially if it was in Brum. Went to the SE one at the weekend and it was great. It was in a School, which was excellent becuase there were several rooms which could be used for different things such as workhsops, jam room, gear room etc. I know the people who run the Blue Orange Theatre in Brum (Jewellry Quater). http://www.blueorangetheatre.co.uk/ It's a, modern studio theatre (flat room with moveable seats), and has a workshop room and bar which can be used for 'breakout' sessions. I believe the rates are quite reasonable. BUT the parking round there is not too great. You can unload on double yellows outside, but then you'd need to drive round and find on streat parking afterwards. I could check out price and availability if you like.
  23.
Particularly good to have Paul the drums there in the jam room and I have to say I was most impressed with Nigel's own drum skills (some wicked off-beat playing, dude! ). Not to mention guitar, too! Thanks also for letting me hog your Strat and pedal board for a while for some ethereal madness! We had some interesting stuff going down, along with Alex and Simon really pumping out some serious Barefaced bottom end... It was also good to see Shelley, the one and only female bass player there - and nice that she joined in for some jammin' fun. Hope you enjoyed it. Thanks to Nik and Hamster and their respective missuses(!) for putting it together. Looking forward now to the next one. Steve
Enjoyed it massively thanks Steve! I only wish I'd plucked up the courage to get in to the Jam Room a bit earlier. Many thanks to you, Nigel and Paul the drummer for your help and encouragement and showing me how it is possible to jam on 2 notes. Looking forward to next year, by which time I hope to impress you all with a repetoire of at least 4 notes!
  24.
Something I've found that works in most situations in life is to say OK and then carry on as normal and when a few months down the line you are reminded of your OK just say, OK, sorry I forgot. Works every time.
Have I ever been out with you?
