1. I`m going to have to back BF on this. Yes it`s easy to connect and power another mixer,as easy as powering an ative wedge or connecting a D.I etc. But, if your desk isn`t doing everything you need it to, and has the potential to do things you aren`t doing, like submixes and direct outs for recording or monitoring, then you may as well consider a total upgrade, starting with a mixer that has more than 2 band EQ and a couple of pre fade monitor outs for monitoring. I know you can get by without some things, but really, with equipment as cheap as it is, you have to ask yourself why, when you alone can spend £800 on one 12" bass cab, would the whole band not spend at least that on the mixer that``s tonally affecting EVERYTHING? My opinion, buy a decent desk and plan ahead. You won`t lose money on it.
2. Helo all. I just stumbled over an Ampeg SVP pro at a greta price so snagged it unseen or heard via a freind. I just got it home today and gave it a test. Initially it was appalling, scratchy pots etc, not bothered about that, I can clean them up. What got me was a very poor tone, almost no gain and the red peak light coming on in my opinion, too early. There was also a quite obvious earth buzz that remained regardless of master out volume. So having read a good few posts on here and TB I`m thinking Valves. I whipped out the sonic screwdriver and removed the lid and had a look at the valves. I took them all out, after noting their positions, and makes and then stuck them back in and took a pic. They are V1 Electro-Harmonix ax7, V2 Sovtek ax7,V3 Sovtek ax7,V4 no name au7,V5 Electro Harmonix ax7. Anyway, valves 2 and 4 are to my eyes visibly dim and nowhere near as bright as the Sovteks. I swapped a bright sovtek into V2 position and the EH into V1 and the EH valve remained dim and the Sov stayed bright. Here`s a pic. Am I correct in thinking these two badly illuminated valves are in need of replacement? Regarding sound, it actually sounded pretty good once I got a bright valve into V1 and I left the valves as you see in the pic as Sov>EH(dim)>Sov>Aux(dim)>EH The drive pot doesn`t seem to do anything which makes sense if that dim valve is where the pot gets routed. Ta in advance. MM
3. Art D.I and minimixer have gone, the Bassballs,Wilkinsons tuners and Behringer pedal are still available and all o.n.o
4. It`s definitely easier than it sounds. Just hit the roots of the chords and the transitional notes between them are obvious and logical. In the version I`m doing I play the intro alone, because the guitarist won`t!
5. Arn Brun`s new CD "It all starts with one". Fantastic moody voice and great arrangements with Norwegian quirkiness.
6. Hello all, I need to divest myself of several bits of useful kit because I`m skint and overdrawn and under marital pressure. HoHoHo... So, first off: [s]Wilkinson Tuners in Black x 4 with bushes. £15 posted to UK[/s] [s]still available [/s]Used on my bitsa Jazz. [s]ART PowerMix 1.[/s] Passive 4 in 1 out mixer with vol control for each input. Really useful for mixing basses with different output levels to one input on a pedal board/amp etc. Also useful as a way of mixing an ipod etc in with your bass for practising. £20 posted to UK SOLD ElectroHarmoniX Bassballs Nano. Magnificent squelchy Funkbubbles at your toes. Everybody needs one. Perfect condition but missing two screws from the base plate (the gods knows where they went..) £35. Posted to UK [s]ARTdirect D.I Box[/s]. Fully featured light and portable D.I box with phase reverse, filter, pad, earth lift link out and xlr signal through. Solves all your D.I quandaries and fits easily into the small pocket on your gigbag. £20 Posted to UK SOLD Behringer heavy duty two way footswitch with stereo jack fitting. I used this for switching the Mute and Octaver on and off on my Ashdown ABM500. Lwhen I sold that, I used it to do extra functions on my Boss GT6 pedalboard like, Patch change, bank select etc. This should work with any dual input switch socket on most amps and pedalboards. Built like a (chinese) tank, very sturdy with a decent couple of metres cable. £15 posted to UK (tis a bit heavy but that`s what stops it buggering off on shiny stages) Back for sale Just to add this pedal is the non latching momentary switch type. Any more information needed on any of the above, please ask, and more pics can be provided on request. (Monkey not included)
7. Kate Bush new CD on Spotify. Very nice.
8. If your unit isn`t properly stereo,as in two in two out then yes you`ll miss any panning you might want to do. Personally, I don`t pan vocals live ever, doesn`t make sense to me to take a vocal away from half your audience just because they are stood on that side of the stage. Also,it seems a bit expensive buying a unit for each voice to save a bit of panning. Also, you don`t need a submixer to do this, just a desk with a stereo sub group with insert points and route all the vocals to it,then route it back to stereo. Your call though. Hope you find a solution.
9. Hmm, I`m trying to think of reasons why you can`t all be fed to the same unit via a stereo group and insert the unit across that. If you`re all on similar vocal treatment I can`t see why it would be a problem. If your lead vocal needs slightly different treatment, use the VE20 for that alone, and send the others to the Helican group. Make sense?
10. Are people into metal these days? I thought it was all progressive dub house or something.
11. Interesting thread, but it seems to me there are as many happy LM II d.i users as there are problematic ones. I used mine on 4 desks so far, a PV,Spirit,Mackie and behringer, all sounded good to me, and I like to think I`m quite critical. There does seem to be some kind of impedance problem with some desks though if half those posts are correct. For live work, you can`t beat having your own separate box, then you are covered for all eventualities.
12.
I like the idea of having different EQ options for monitors for the 'same' channel as such, very handy! Not something I'm used to on my good old GL3000! The idea of having EQs on all the outputs sounds great too, different master EQs for different groups? Brilliant! Lastly, those flying faders can never get dull can they? Ha!
Well, I use a couple of Y splits to do the same thing when I`m working at the local club, they also have an A&H GL4000.Really helps avoid feedback in the mons and lets you treat the vox properly for foh. The eq on the outs of the Yams is only 4 band parametric but yes, still dead useful for notching out those bad vibes Flying faders.. I soon learned not to keep my sharpie on some unused channels All I can say is you`ll love it, but try and box it up properly, they won`t take the knocks. If you are looking to go cheaper, the behringer digi desk is pretty useful, and has all the same kinds of features. I got lumbered with a tribute band gig in a large social club and this was the desk supplied with the rig, and at first I screamed and moaned etc, but it actually did the job just as well as the yammys and sounded fine. Hope you find the right desk!
13. I could really use these but am skint tll xmas! Good luck
14. I havent used an 02r live, but I have owned and used the 01v92 on many a euro tour and the eq and routing are pretty similar. You can get a pretty decent gig out of them, the eq is fine and the pre-amps are ok for live, though you can add more via the adat interface. I used the Focusrite presonus ones for the "money chans". The routing is good and the soft patching means you can do tricks like send one input to two chans for routing to FOH and Mon with seperate eq and dynamics. Speaking of which the gates and comps are fine for live once you get used to dialling them in on a wheel. You get eq on all the outputs and comps as well which is great for limiting monitor mixes etc, and the eq lets you set up fake x overs for subs/bi-amping etc. The only bad thing I would say about them is they are slow to use until you get a few files on there with the desk set up just as you like it, with an eq library and various routing choices etc,but even then, quick dialling eq in on the fly takes getting used to. Also, you cant really push them into the red like anny desks, they just start to sound brittle,so you need a bit of headroom at the amps and run the desk a few Db lower overall. I quite like using them now, because I got used to the yamaha way of structuring stuff. Overall they can be a bargain, but you have to put the time in familiarising yourself. There is also the Studio manager software for pc which can really speed up stuff like patching and routing and naming, and give you better metering during the show. I use a little netbook for that and it works a treat for backing up the desk too. Good luck in your search!
15. I will be in London on the 16th dec and Amsterdam via Koln on the 18th Dec, if thats any use? I will be travelling on a tourbus so safety isnt an issue. Happy to transport it. MM
16. The D.I out on the MBII is OK, they really wouldn`t let down a fine and fairly expensive amp with a crap D.I but it not being switchable is a PITA as it`s nice to use for recording post eq and live pre eq. But, I`m a belt and braces man along with some others so I use a D.I box when needed. I have an ART X Direct that sounds fine and gives a few different options like phase reverse, input pad, earth lift, battery or phantom powered.it also has a Low pass filter. These are £29 on ebay. And I think that`s a bargain. http://www.ebay.co.u...5#ht_3682wt_932 As an alternative to that, you might want to try the Behringer BDDI,which makes a decent D.I and can add a nice SVT warmth to your LM II. Or you can switch the EQ section off and just use the D.I output. I used mine a lot up until recently and it sounded great. You can fetch these for about £20.00 http://www.ebay.co.u...d#ht_2688wt_698
17. Lady Antebellum,I need you now. Sort of country pop cheese. Very larry mullens apart from a nice little ascending riff at the 15th fret. For an audition. Also Sweet Dreams Eurythmics. Difficult to work out what`s for bass and what`s for keys on this. Finally nailed (I think) Patrice Rushens Forget me nots "Come get yer black binbags",and it should be in the set on Sat if the keys player masters the 3 chords.
18. Peavey TNT 120 in the ads here for £80. That would be perfect.
19. Wouldn`t mind some pics too. What size are the toms/floor 10/12/14?
20. sh*t Tom, that`s appalling. Mither the promoter for expenses till he`s sick to death of you, plus get a repeat booking.
21. Dear me..Slid, your blood pressure mate.... I`m presuming what the Fender poster really meant was working basses, like Fender and Squier shouldn`t be ignored in the quest to reveal details about the new through neck bubinga covered graphite 7 stringer with 49 possible pickup combis,as used by nobody but they stuck a big ad in the magazine so we`ll give it a great review. We`ve all seen this before. Also bear in mind that there are a lot of younger and as yet less grizzled bassists who may not know quite as much as some of us here think we do. So, a practical focus on kit people actually need and use rather than the usual lusting for esoteric gew gaws might be nice.
22. Non existent due to singer transference policy adopted by "management".
