1. I had a look at the LM manual and it doesn't mention phantom power at all. Is there any particular reason for wanting to get rid of the 9V battery?
2. Well, I love the 87 JD I own (I've never encountered a more playable 4-string) and I live just up the road from Solihull. I'm a bit strapped for cash though, I suppose you'd want a bit more than a tenner and half a packet of wine gums?
3. If there's any surplus disks going, I wouldn't mind a few...
4.
Ah ok, did you get them specially ordered in or did they just have them hanging around? I’m quite interested cos I might need a fretted 4 string replacement neck in the not too distant future.
They were hanging round - all gone now though as far as I know.
5. I found the song Perfect really got up my nose after a while. It was that "bee-ee-ee-ee" bit which just irritated me beyond belief.
6. Crazy little thing called love.
7.
All the display lights are working. The fan is not working. There is no sound at all from either speaker O/P. There is a very distorted, intermitent and low level sound into headphgones form the headphone 0/P.
If it has an effects send/return, try running the effects send to another amp and see if anything comes out.
8.
Like Alun I have an NS Design EUB which has cascading (their word, not mine) dots all the way down. I found them useful to get me in the right place whilst learning but even now, although I very rarely have to look at them when playing, if my ears tell me that I've drifted I find a glance at them helps to correct things quickly. I'm a dots fan!
I had a Palatino before the WAV-4 - the Palatino has no dots at all anywhere. I needed reference points so got some little adhesive "jewels" and put those on at 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th and 15th positions. I find the WAV-4 has a visually confusing excess of dots.
9. No, got them from PMT in Birmingham some time ago.
10. I decided I was never going to get round to building the monster twin-neck Warwick so I'm flogging these 5-string necks on ebay: Fretted Fretless
11. I was thinking of something like the Omni 10, with the tweeters on the flat centre section. Sounds like that would be feasible then.
12. You mean you've accidentally bought it?
13. Would it be feasible to add tweeters to the DR250?
14. It's nice to see I'm nowhere near alone in the 8+ category. Five Tsais, two Warwicks, a Hohner Jack, a Jerry Atrics twin neck, a 5-stringed 4-string P-frankenbass, an acoustic 4-string fretted, a project bass I got off the dontcarebear a while ago, and an NS WAV-4. I think that's it.
15. Saturday night was The Pickle in Acocks Green, Birmingham. Stage is tiny - we just about all fit on with the keyboard player teetering on the edge, so it's a good job she only plays about a quarter of the set. Not much audience activity until the third set, where it picked up with a couple of songs that we've just put into the set ("Brown Eyed Girl" and "I'm a believer") going down particularly well. I normally use the GK 200MB for this gig due to the tiny stage, but decided to try the Hartke HA1200 that I fixed up a while ago instead. I reckon it sounded better than the GK, possibly partly because it's bigger (helping the bottom end) and it's ported with a rear port rather than sealed box, so I think it would be louder for the same driver (and they have, in fact, shared a driver). Very pleasing.
16. I'm another ex-Hayman 40/40 owner. For some reason, I sold it and bought a Precision.
17.
this link will explain, the yanks call it DENATURED ALCOHOL but we call it METHYLATED SPIRIT
The Yanks don't even know what it's called, let alone whether it goes best with red meat or white. Remember, meths with red meat, white spirit with white/fish.
18. Personally, I wouldn't like a ramp. I played a ramp-equipped bass recently, and it interfered with my right-hand fingers (fortunately not with the left-hand ones, that could have been nasty). I'm sure they're useful for some players, but I am not among the "some".
19. I started on guitar, was a mediocre lead guitarist back in the 70s and the bar has been raised considerably since then. Or maybe I've just slid down the bar after too many drinks. I do still play guitar, for songwriting and for the acoustic duo that is myself and Mrs Zero, though I would like to expand the band to a four-piece and shift back to bass. My rhythm guitar skills are reasonable and I can fingerpick as well (I started learning on a classical and have always used both plectrum and fingers).
20.
Too pretty to photograph
The camera would steal its soul.
21.
Now THAT was a truly great movie.
Yebbut Alan Rrrrrrickman never went on to record a song about hobbits, or indeed any fictional or mythical creature.
22.
Fascinating that Fender [seem to] have tried to disown this bass. Anyone know anything about this? Urban myth or is it true? If so, why?
Because it's pig-ugly?
23.
To only play what I hear
Isn't that going to result in you only ever being able to play versions of John Cage's 4' 33" (short version, 12" remix, etc)? After all, if you don;t lay till you hear and there's nothing for you to hear because you're not playing, you're a bit stuck aren't you? Um, resolutions: Practice.
24.
Just be careful getting the neck out of the pocket - don't want to chip the paint. Then again it's a Fender - you should be fine
You mean that as all the paint will drop off in a couple of weeks anyway, it doesn't really matter?
