We could have a sub sub forum. -
Poll: Would you contribute towards a PA sub group on BC?
tauzero replied to Kiwi's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't, PA is its own subject. -
Just one of the many reasons for going headless - then you only stick the end of the neck into the singer's ear if you really mean to.
-
And very successful it was too. Mrs Zero thought that the sound from the Altos was cleaner than the RCFs were, they were certainly loud enough and lighter and smaller than the RCFs.

Ditto, although presumably if one writes to it, it could be expected that one would also read it (although various facets of the internet have been referred to as a write-only medium). -
I have the main website address in human-readable form and on the QR code, and there's a link on every page of the website to the Facebook page. I can't see any point in having a separate domain that the QR code points to.

Porcupne Tree continuing to tour with NO bass player
tauzero replied to leroydiamond's topic in General Discussion
Midge Ure learning Thin Lizzy's set when he got drafted in to replace Gary Moore, apparently in about a day? I know it's guitar, but after all, we all know that anyone who can play bass can play guitar. -
I've had a few Hohner headlesses, a Jack and three B2s (one 4-string and two 5s, still got one 5). I thought the four string ones have very nice necks, the 5s are a little bulky.

I like that rear cavity cover. Well, I like it all, but that rear cavity cover is a step up from the black plastic ones on my Thumbs.

Greensleeves.

No.

Still on a bit of a post-gig wind-down so thought I'd do this now. Second gig for Dirty Roses - we've been rehearsing for a few months and have finally emerged. Between the first and second gigs, at the same pub, I've replaced the RCF 710A Mk2s with Alto TS408s. Smaller and lighter, and I've got to load and unload the buggers so that's the way I want them. The gig went well, from an audience and gaffer POV (plenty of singalong and dancers). There were definitely scrappy bits which need to be sorted. I don't think there will be a problem saying to the others that x and y need sorting, everyone is amenable to criticism. It's a question of whether x and y will actually get sorted. Mrs Zero was out front and the new speakers got the thumbs up from her. She's also written notes about what we need to sort out. I hope that her 64GB phone gave her adequate room for that. The gaffer was also impressed with the sound, so the all-Alto system (2x TS408 FOH, 2x TS308 monitors) is looking good, along with the Behringer X-Air XR12 that runs it.. Next gig is next weekend. Confidence is increasing. Oh, I should also mention (I may have also done so if I wrote up our first gig in this thread) that the rest of the band were brilliant in bringing stuff in and out from the car. The load in for me consisted of two journeys from car to "stage", the load out was just one journey. Replacing the not-terribly-big RCFs with the tiny Altos has helped there.

It would be useful to know if it's somewhere round Coalville as Mrs Zero is thinking of doing an open mic or two with the other half of the duo she's in, and he lives in Coalville.

I think Nilo had a hand in the lyrics.

I'm a great fan of natural basses (the paint doesn't get chipped) but that Thumb in the middle looks lovely. I think the pickups being set so close to the bridge, unlike the 4-strings, gives a big expanse of colour which really works well.

Roland VB-99 and very tatty GK-3B pickup. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225738372814 Probably £1100-£1200 overpriced.

Latex gloves are essential when murdering the guitarist, to avoid leaving fingerprints. Depending on the method of dispatch, a full biohazard suit may be preferable for bludgeoning and stabbing, whereas simple strangulation whether manual or by ligature should only need the gloves.

So yellow goes to red on the tweeter then.

I've made a couple of posts in the Ibanez owner's club, but when looking at the subforum listing, there's no star by that topic. I think every other topic that I've contributed to has a star by it. It's sort of the reverse of what @BigRedX was talking about in the disappearing threads question.

I've worn band T-shirts with several bands. Come to that, I wore a SMIDSY T-shirt when I was on the SMIDSY Robot Wars team. I don't see an issue with someone in the band wearing the band's T-shirt, but everybody wearing the band's T-shirt may or may not work, depending on the nature of the band. So it's not so much about what's on the T-shirt as whether it's a uniform or not.

Reliable rechargeable batteries with active basses
tauzero replied to FirstBass's topic in General Discussion
I recently bought an active bass which was working fine. I checked the battery and it was dated 2016 (I thought I might as well replace it). Batteries in my various active basses live at least 5 years so I just carry on using alkalis. -
Presumably that's the punishment for playing Dancing Queen, although I would have thought that having to listen to it would be punishment enough. And if the image of Theresa May doing her moves should come into one's head unbidden, so much the worse. Pass the mind bleach.

Would the crossover have common grounds for the main driver and the tweeter, or would they be completely isolated?
-
If you've got a grinder of some sort, you could try grinding the points off the appropriate box spanner so all that's left is the flats, as there's more clearance between the flat and the front panel than the angle and the front panel.

I think (and someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong) that either a 2-pole or a 4-pole will do as the speaker will be connected to 1+ and 1-, and a jack to speakon lead would also connect to 1+ and 1-. Do get genuine Neutrik plugs though, pattern parts can have incompatibilities that make them difficult to get out of the socket (I haven't had any problems myself but others have).
