Epiphone Les Paul Standard bass, from active to passive
neepheid replied to neepheid's topic in Repairs and Technical
So, some bits n bobs arrived... Also I put a coat of lacquer on my brass standoffs and put them on the bass in place of the temporary washers under the bridge... A tiny detail, perhaps, but I guess it looks a bit less temporary now. Still no sign of pickups yet but I'm debating whether or not to get gold rings, or black - as the pickups themselves have gold rails and that might be enough gold to go around. One thing is certain - cream rings have to go. I thought they might tie in with the body binding but I think they look daft next to the gold bridge. Thoughts? The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that there are no position markers on the tone knobs. That's because the push-push pots are bigger than the single pots and the position markers are intended for the smaller ones. I'm not buying more - I'll ream out the ones I have to fit. -

Your Bass Journey - going nowhere without an amplifier!

Laney HCM30B 30W practice amp (first bass amp, still got it - it's the office amp now) Hartke HA3500 head into Ashdown ABM 4x10, subsequently replaced with a Zoot 4x10 RedSub BT5110 combo with removable head into a BFM Omni 10 when extra cab needed That's all folks! Just don't care that much about amps, good enough is good enough, all I've done over time is reduce weight and bulk. -
I think by saying "I really don't think I'll bother", you've already answered your question. Unless you've got a burning desire to make that change, I wouldn't bother.

Well, at least you've stopped me going gung-ho into Mr. T-ing the heck out of my black and gold project, thank you Sir

This has given me pause for thought - I'm already committed to gold bridge, tuners, pickup rails and knobs. Maybe I'll pause there to see how blingy it is before considering gold pickup rings, gold straplocks and a gold surround for the pickup selector/poker chip. FWIW, I think the bridge would appreciate some company in the form of gold knobs. The tuners have the complementary gold "Spector" script on the TRC after all. Either way, definitely looks way better than the stealthy stock look.

My hands are rubbed raw, pickups still not made it across the pond yet. On the plus side, with pay day comes orders for all the other stuff (tuners, pots, knobs etc.) which will hopefully arrive in the next few days. I got the lacquer for protecting my brass standoffs so I suppose I should get that done too. -
https://www.fender.com/pages/about But that's what it's called, no apostrophe wanted or needed. Just retire already, apostrophe police officer, you've been on the beat far too long.

Showing you all how it's done - had a puddle around on a few basses but walked out without buying anything.
-
Are pickups "gear"? I think so. You might get a bye if you were replacing a defective one like for like, but if this is personal preference then I'd say you're out.

You said you didn't know what route one is. I defined it. TL:DR - knobs, fnar fnar.
-
Direct, straight for the jugular, asking someone about their knob(s) without even commenting on the current weather conditions...

Looking good. An effect I hope to replicate on my Les Paul, albeit going from chrome to gold

Bit route one, innit?

It sometimes doesn't translate. Lobster's discord server is a bit like that sometimes - but not to the same degree as that, more just like asking if I'm being mean rather than deciding I am being mean and getting a timeout or whatever. Either that or the intended effect is lost on people. There are things I would say here that I just don't bother with in a more US-centric setting. It's just the way it is. We can't expect everyone to be on board with our particular brand of humour.

Epiphone Jack Casady Signature - Jack Casady was involved in its design (particularly the pickup), Jack Casady takes his basses for using on tour straight from the factory, "no ringers" as he puts it. I have nothing more to say on the subject other than I believe this is how signature instruments should be *mic drop*

Is it asking you if you think it's sexy?
-
But that's a result! Why? If the manager got a roasting from the CEO, they're unlikely to muck you about again. I get that principles are expensive but this sounds like a noseless face to me.

They clearly never thought Newcastle would get that far. 15 minute setup? You must have us confused with "Instant band in a box, just add water".

Into the lion's den today of Glasgow guitar shops. I'm not participating this year so think of it as me going so you don't have to. Stay strong, bass brothers and sisters...

Regurgitation - have you forgotten how good it tastes?

Even happened to me once with the covers band (minus the unpaid bit). Booked to play at the social club of a football team out in the sticks. Due to a toxic combination of other stuff going on in the town and a lack of promotion (maybe they thought they didn't have to), absolutely no-one turned up. Not a sausage. Played the first set to 2 bar staff. At half time they told us we could just stop, but paid us anyway. We're booked there again so hopefully the football club will actually have some supporters this time. The date? April 1st... made me chuckle and ask several times if it's a genuine booking

One person's choice is another person's blasphemy. I wouldn't go that far, personally - I'm quite capable of ignoring the slim BBs because they don't appeal to me. But I'm sure there will be people out there who froth at the mouth and brandish pitchforks at the thought of them...
