1. WOW - nice rig and with cases, now there's a deal! I canny afford it but good luck to whoever snags this monster. JTB edit:Spelling...again!
2. Hi Alex - sorry to hijack this thread slightly - will hopefully be getting some pics up tonight of said stack!
You can have another Speakon if you ask nicely and pay £5 more. But no-one so far has needed one so minimalism seems the best route for the standard model! Most (in fact all bar Jon so far) are using a single Compact with an amp that is stable down to 4 or 2 ohms. The high sensitivity means you don't need to suck every last watt out of your amp even if you're in a seriously loud band and an 8 ohm load is easier on your amp so it'll run cooler. Alex
3. You're right in that 2 Compacts will be a 4 ohm load for the amp. The amp's minimum of 4 ohms is regardless of whether it's 1 or 2 cabs that present that load. E.g. an Ampeg 8x10 cab is 4 ohm, so that's it for the amp or as you have pointed out you can use a pair of 8 ohm cabs. Hope that helps? Also a quick note on the Barefaced Compact cabs - They only have one socket on them so your amp will need 2 speaker output sockets, unless Alex offers a 2 speakon option to daisy chain the cabinets (?) Cheers, JTB
Sorry to ask this - because I know somewhere the information I need already exists... but I couldn't find/understand it. The Compact is an 8ohm cab right? If I buy a 300W amp with a minimum impedance of 4ohm - does that mean I have to have two Compacts (taking the impedance to 4ohm)? Or does it mean I can't use two 4ohm cabs (which would give 2ohm)? i.e. Is 8ohm higher than the 4ohm minimum, or is it lower? Cheers.
4. OOOOOHHH YEEAAHHHHH, Mission control My 2 vintageised compacts have landed They made it this morning as promised. I'll get pics and comments up ASAP, probably Monday now folks. JTB
5. Hi Clarky, I dunno how good they are for slapping but for Rock n Punk I use Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys (50-105) and find them spot on. Cheers, Jon
6. Did my Compacts ship today Alex? :brow: Jon edit:Spelling!
7. My fav place for strings so a big +1 from me too!
8. For the price and build quality difference compared to it's Orange cousin, it's a no brainer IMO. I certainly would if I could afford it! JTB

10.
Those vintage bad boys! Hmmm.....I want hahaha!
Hands off, they're mine!!! Can't wait to get them. JTB
11. Also if your speaker cabs have sensitive drivers in them then they will be more efficient which means louder too. I would suggest post this question/s in the appropriate thread in the "Ask an Expert - Barefaced Cabs" forum. Put all the info in there for Alex to see and I'm sure he'll put you straight as he certainly is the man around here for all things speaker shaped! Regards, JTB
12. Now there's a rig! 15. If you're wanting extra grunt from a P pickup then I can highly recommend their Area 51 Stealth unit. It really does sound how they describe on the website. Cheers, JTB
16. I had a P bass with a Quarter Pounder pickup in it and the secret weapon for getting classic sounds with it was putting flatwound strings on the bass. Absolutely fantastic IMO. JTB
17. I was thinking of just a neck swap on a Jazz bass Just imagine a CIJ Jazz body with a CIJ '70 RI P neck.... GAS attack!!!
18. Time to do a 'Frankenbass' Clarky?

20. Ah man, if only I had the dough Hopefully me amp'll sell to facilitate it (hint hint Guys - see my sig!) ATB, JTB
21. I would highly recommend the SD Classic/Hot Stacks for Jazz to go in your bass with your P pickup. They are really good sounding units and are humbucking p'ups. Cheers, JTB
22. What about a 1 off Fender CS Masterbuilt jobbie to your exact spec's? That would be very special.
23. You're on first refusal if Sid has to go Clarky, don't worry
