1. Turned up at a gig, set everything up except the guitar which I left until the very last moment. When I did go to set it up i found ... an old, broken bass from years back staring up at me from inside the case. My wife had been helpful and tidied a few things up for me. Aaaargh. Stupidest gear related thing I ever did though, was a result of my drinking (I don't any more). We'd done a gig at Swindon Town FC's function room and I woke up in the car in their car park the next morning. The first team getting onto their coach for an away fixture must have woken me. As I drove (yes probably over the limit) out of the car park I had to stop and pick up bits of my kit which marked a trail back to the door of the function room. Including my brand new Shure wireless rig in it's case. Miracle everything was still there not nicked or run over, I must have been dropping stuff, falling over wandering around pissed up. I don't need to tell anyone the moral here do I?
2.
i finally got around to getting a set of earplugs. just went for the etymolic er-20's. will have their first try out later on tonight at practice. I look forward to finishing a gig without ringing ears.
I found they took a few rehearsals to get used to but honestly it is so worth it. Please stick with them.
3. I did the same thing the other week. Utter stupidity on my part. I'm going to buy a spare pair to keep in a different part of my kit to ensure it never happens again.
But what sort of volumes are you playing to blow out your ears like that...and what about the audience..?
Can't speak for the original poster but in my case it's the drummer shatters my hearing. Nothing can be done about that.
4. goaround: I have a NA650 too so I am copying and pasting your post to send to my tech guy. Thanks very much for sharing.
5. I am on the move for most of my working day and a bass guitar is not an option. My other hobby is photography so I have my LX3 on me at all times!
6. Right, just back from picking up the amp. It was one of the two large capacitors had actually vibrated lose. The guy (who is the best in the West by far) said it was a design fault. They are vulnerable to deep bass vibration because of their size and placement. He has refixed and glued 'em up good and she sounds fine.
7.
urgently needing 2x10 cabs chaps. get in touch...
I have an Epifani 2X10 but the front grill is a little scruffy... edit: Anyway Glasgow/Bristol - it just wouldn't work.
8. I'm quoting my tech guy's text message so not sure but it sounds similar. I had all sorts of horrible noises and distortions.
9. Mine turned out to be an electrolytic capacitor on the power supply - also fixed!!
10. I was in The More Specials for years and got so much grief from the rest of the band when once I turned up with my Thunderbird for a gig. Of course when they reformed I felt fully vindicated. I must have been the only person to take one look at them and shout hah!
11. Just bought a lovely Trace Elliot amp from this fine Basschatter. If you want to deal with Carl you won't find a more helpful, friendly and above all honest man. He pointed out a possible - and I stress possible - fault with the amp ( I could find nothing wrong) and insisted on a financial adjustment in my favour. Add to this driving to meet me, arranging a place for us to set up and try out the gear and waiting patiently for me to arrive (late). Great communications and an all round nice bloke.
12.
Why has everyone moved it on if it's that good, or am i missing something?
We will never, ever be satisfied. Yesterday I was going to sell all my basses carefully collected over the years to fund a build of my ultimate dream bass. Today I want this having never owned a Fender in my life (sadly I am using all spare cash to replace my amp which died at a gig last week) tomorrow I will want a Ric the next day I won't be able to live without a 1983 Aria Sb100 fretless. It's the GAS man, it's the goddamn GAS.
13. aaargh GAS get thee behind me Satan etc etc Have a bump on me for a beautiful bass..
14. Here I go again: OBBM cable maker extraordinaire and all round gentleman to boot. Honestly Dave never ceases to amaze me. I only ordered one piddling speaker cable and as it was a little complicated (for reasons with which I won't bore you) he has emailed me back and forth and spared no effort in making 100% certain that I got the cable I need. Top top guy you will never deal with anyone better.
15. It's difficult and being in a band often if not always calls for compromises. I've been playing for a million years now and still I've ended up trapped with a drummer I dislike. He can play, it's a personality thing. In my other band the singer is a Spurs fan so that is of course far from ideal. I'd ask yourself a simple question. Does what he brings to the band compensate for the annoyance? If the answer is yes then learn to put up with him if it's no leave or kick him out.
16. Our new album just came out and is selling reasonably in a few countries, but it's the day job for me and at 47 years old a half decent tribute band on the next one up from the pub circuit is the best I'll ever do. But hey it's better than a lot do and it's good enough for me. But like the OP I wonder how life may have been. I ran a live music venue for 13 years so I saw a lot of aspiring musicians. One 'made it'.
17.
I don't ever get nervous on big gigs, but I tremble at playing in front of other bassists... I feel I can fool an audience, but not another bassists :-)
With me it's small crowds, intimate venues that are more nerve wracking. Bigger the gig the more remote the audience so they seem less of a threat.
18. First gig new band, completely ott rig.

I only met the man once and it was immediately clear that he was a real gent. What terrible news.
20. Sigh. About three songs in, first proper gig with my new band and my Eden starts buzzing and farting and generally sounding like a piece of crap. I'll be honest these amps come highly recommended and this is the second one I've had play up on me. Made it through to the end somehow but seriously regretted giving away my old Behringer head to our keyboard player (he runs his keys through a small Roland and takes a line out to the NA450 which drives a Behringer 1X15) as his sound was wonderful and mine was pants. The funny thing is I thought I was stepping up to a world of better quality. Previously I've used Trace Elliot and (briefly) Laney but I have to say to all those Behringer haters out there the stuff I've used has been 100% reliable. Now I have to buy a new head. Harumph. Rant over. Carry on.
21. Thanks guys. Didn't realised he strayed from the precision. Weird looking beast non?
22. Anyone recognise the bass Bruce is using here? Red Shoes
