  1. This thread raises a question. How on earth do you remember them all? I can't remember the basses I have now never mind the ones I had 40 years ago
  2. Well I've been playing with it for a couple of days and it's a beauty. Fantastic down sweep. Bubbly, warm, liquid tones all the way through to synthy oddness. Considering how many envelope filters I already own I'm surprised to find one offering something different. It's not without it's idiosyncrasies; unusually labelled controls, and a depth control that goes too far - into distortion in fact. But it is so easy to get great sounds out of it that these quibbles are vanishingly small. Add to this Ian at Red Rocket Music is a very approachable and helpful guy.
  3. There's a TC Nether for 20 quid on FB now. Any octave pedal combined with fuzz or distortion and chorus will do tla job. The SA C4 is excellent but you have to be prepared to build your sounds on a screen and hope they work in the band
  4. Mines arriving today or tomorrow. I'll let you know.
  5. Yeah I hear you. I've got some high end basses and I've played some even higher, but my favourites have nothing to do with their label or their price. Others say differently and that's their prerogative, but how a bass feels in my hands, how it balances on a strap, how it sounds and how it talks to me are the only things that matter. The label and the price are utterly irrelevant.
  6. As others have said, I hope you're not suffering 🙏 Can I also say this bass is absolutely gorgeous and testing my will power to the maximum.
  7. If you're specifically interested in building your own synth sounds, I recommend the Poly Blue by MXR.
  8. One of the unsung heroes of the bass amp world. Unfairly dismissed because of snobbery, these amps are fantastic. I've gigged mine far and wide. Bet it sounds amazing with this cab.
  9. My worse was also my best. Confused? Don't be. I'll explain. Bought a bass here which turned out to be an absolute piece of firewood. Well, two pieces really, as the neck and body didn't go together at all. I also paid what was for me a lot of money for it. So - clearly the worst. But it has entirely cured me of GAS. I just think about it every time I see a bass that looks lovely. And I keep my money. So it's actually my best purchase.
  10. Oof. That is gorgeous.
  11. I would buy this for the precise reason you bought it Then not be able to get on with it for the precise reason you couldn't.
  12. I've only gigged it once. Used it with the 'ring' switch on. Very nice, tight, funky sound. It's slightly quirky, which I like, not in a crazy glitchy way, just enough to give it a little character. The bass switch cleans and warms up the sound giving a nice low synthy vibe. The only drawback is the volume is a little lower in bass only mode. But, and I mean this, it looks so very cool, and that's vital.
  13. Harley Benton I know. PSU in general, not so much.
  14. Yes but I also have no life so.....
  15. Just need to wire it up now
  16. In my basket already
  17. Took my new pedal out for coffee It was too pretty to leave at home.
  18. Bet that kicks out some righteous noise
  19. This weekend after the Sunday night Bandeoke I received glowing compliments for my sound. Not from the sexy barmaid of course but her pasty male sidekick. Naturally I assumed he was a bass player, and naturally I was correct. Still, I'll add it to my book of compliments received over my 40 year career (I think this makes it six in total) and very nice it was too. I glanced back over my shoulder and thought how pathetic the rig actually looked. Anyway he plays an Ampeg tube head through a big old Ampeg cab so take a bow, Barefaced, Harley Benton, and Behringer pedals 🤷🏻‍♂️ That's the rig circled in case you missed it.
  20. Oh my god. That is one GAS inducing, beautiful bass. I'm drooling here man.
  21. (No one ever asks, but let's pretend.) People are always asking me how I build my pedal boards. It seems I use a different set up every week they say. Well here's my 'work in progress' board. It's an old music stand which sits in front of where I sit when I'm awake. If I'm inspired to try something I bung it together here and give it a blast. This week @Quatschmacher in a different post talked about two envelope filters in parallel. I tried it and then thought what if I switched one for a phaser? What if I dirtied the clean sound?, and so on. I then do my lesson work, or song, learning, or noodling, and use the effects while doing so. If anything works particularly well or sounds appropriate for a specific song the whole set up might make it to a board. If not it gets ripped out and replaced when the next idea lands.
  22. Hi, is this for a two pickup bass?
  23. Excellent review. Thank you 👍
