1. Yer typical Mail headline consists of a ludicrous question - "Is Lettuce Turning Our Teens Into Satanists?" - which can be very simply answered by one word: 'No', but instead is followed by 500 words of reactionary drivel. Arseholes! And let us never forget that this is The Paper That Supported Hitler.
  2.
Why spend £350 on a new bass when you could spend £350 on a second hand one that cost twice that much ?
+1 Just have a look at the For Sale section - you could get something really good (and probably as good as new) for £350 - I got an immaculate G&L Tribute L2000 for around that money last week. If you really have to have something brand new I'd echo the recommendation for the Squier CV line. But IMO you'd be a lot better off getting something previously loved by a fellow BassChatter. I believe there are some nice Ric copies around ;-)

    SOLD
this is a bargain..!!!
Especially for a bass that never misses a beat Have an on-the-beat bump from me.
  4.
Looks brilliant. I've been hunting for an actual EB-2, for 2 years now... they seem to be quite rare.
There's one for a sale in a secondhand shop down here in Brighton, if that's any help. PM me if you want more info. Apologies to OP for minor hijack - that bass does look amazing, but I think in this case beauty is strictly skin deep
  5. Nearly an hour and no mention of Johnny Borrell? Unbelievable. Let's have Pete Doherty while we're at it too.

    2X18 feedback

Bought Will's amber G&L Tribute L2000. Arrived yesterday - great nick, plays beautifully. Very straightforward, easy deal. Top bloke to do business with. Thanks Will.
  7.
This song is ruined by the worst lead guitar I've heard on any song ever. It makes my toes curl...
Just goes to show - one man's meat and all that. I've always loved that solo and that creamy phase 'n' fuzz tone. Great thread, Clarky - cheers
  8.
So I'll throw my hat in the ring and say let's hear it for Martyn P Casey from The Triffids, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Grinderman.
+1. Good call.
  9. No problem. One of the (many) great things about Kate Bush is the quality of the bass players she's chosen to work with - Del Palmer, John Giblin, Danny Thompson, Eberhard Weber, Mick Karn.... Not a bad list!
  10. More pics of the 'Babooshka bass' (and how it looks now) on Del Palmer's site here: http://www.delpalmer.com/page10.htm
  11.
Aways try before you buy though. Golden rule.
Undoubtedly very good advice, but it's not always practical. Especially if you want to take advantage of the competitive pricing offered by online stores. I bought both my Fender P and Squier J unseen over the internet and - fortunately - they're both very good basses with no QC issues. But I can see that you do run the risk of landing up with a lemon - as Musicman20's experience shows. All in all it's another good argument for buying secondhand off fellow BCers
  12.
I'm just questioning how Largo knows the CR's loss of income is BS.
I was a bit puzzled by that as well...
  13. Just thought I'd bring this to your attention. I'm fairly sure it's not a (royal) scam *ahem*. 14.
All together nah, "Eez a Milkmaaaahn, bringing rahnd ver pints, he looks just like a roadie when eez settin up the lights,Eez a..." * *to the tune of Starman.
I just disturbed a carriageful of blameless train passengers with loud splutterings of mirth. Good work!
  15. Band 1 - originals: swamp rock, americana, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - that sort of area Band 2 - covers: The Faces (it's a Faces tribute band) At home I mainly play Motown, Stax, Chic, Steely Dan etc. - I find those sort of lines the most enjoyable - and challenging - to play and I think that funk/soul feel carries over into the more rock oriented stuff I play live.
  16.
An OLP Ray and Ashdowm MAG210 combo would be within the OP's budget though and be a good starting set up.
Can't argue with that
  17.
I think spending your £400 budget on an OLP ray and an Ashdown 210 combo would sort you out with a decent bass and usable amp
Just wanted to point out that it's an Ashdown MAG 210 cab for sale there, not a combo - no use to you unless you buy a head to go with it.
  18.
I fully understand why they're not loved by everyone
I don't +1 to getting The Royal Scam and Aja. I never grow tired of Aja - it still sounds as fresh and wonderful as when I first heard it (77?).
  19.
The housemartins and beatiful south all had equal royalties ( may be not credited but all share the same £% ) I believe which I think is very generous of Rotheray / Heaton. That was one band not bothered at all about money and quite refreshing to hear.
I believe that was the deal with Pulp too.
  20.
A very sad story. It reminds me of what Levon Helm recounts in 'This Wheel's on Fire: Levon Helm and the Story of the Band'. Robbie Robertson managed to get sole writing credits on practically all of the Band's songs, much to the anger and bitterness of the others. It comes across as a very shady and shabby business, but to be fair, I've not seen Roberston's version of the events. I can recommend the above book. A very good musical autobiography.
+1 It's an excellent book, but - as you say - Robbie Robertson doesn't come out of it well at all. It is disappointing when people you've previously had a lot of respect and admiration for turn out not to be quite as admirable as you thought.
  21.
a question for those that know, if you look here http://www.fender.co...p?prodNo=019407 the american deluxe precision has a normal jazz bridge pickup, but I have seen a 2nd hand one with a "jazzbucker", ie, 2 rows of pole pieces on the pickup - did they change at some point, or is it another model or aftermarket pickup ?
The double J pickup was standard on the pre-2010 Am Dlx P, but was replaced with the 'normal' looking N3 J pickup in 2010.
  22. Although I play guitar and keyboard as well, most of the songs I've written for my current band have started with bass. Generally I'll be fiddling around (on whichever instrument), come up with a pattern/progression/riff that I like the sound of, then figure out what that might lead into and consequently end up with a basic verse/chorus structure which can then be tweaked and elaborated. If you do something similar then you'll have the bare bones of a song to take along to the band for further development. Good luck!
  23.
To be fair the bloke is smoking a tab, which suggests he's done the decent thing before turning his attentions to the guitar.

Think the publicity shot is basically 'if you have money to waste on girls and hotels, you can buy an overpriced Fender'.
...but not a pair of trousers that fit
