1. only just bought my first fretless a couple of months ago and reasonably pleased - only went for something low end first to make sure i was happy with my playing style etc so i picked up a nice little vintage fretless from 'the bay' for a small bargain as didnt want to lash out a grand or more on something lush and then decide fretless wasnt for me - saying that tho whilst the vintage is not a bad instrument per se i think it is very good value for the money i doubt very much ill be using it as a giggin bass simply because i dont find the body that comfortable to hold and will probs go for a fretless precision eventually - after ive tracked down my old status and negotiated its return
 2.
So are we saying that for most of us its a difference in timing that creates the issues, given that you can sing in the first place and have practiced that part as well as the bass. Or is there more to it?
some really interesting answers coming out here and judging by all the comments resonating with everyone for me persoanlly its not just the difference in timing its also the rhythms and the structure and counterpoint - its as if the whole essence of bass lines is completely at odds with the melody/vocals and it is just too different for my tiny barin cells to coordinate and multi-task - i get peoples comments about geddy lee and stuff, maybe chris squire style bass lines are easier to sing against than say robert trujillos infectious grooves basslines or paul mccartneys but then that is down to everybodys individual cognitive process working in different ways i guess i note other posters have mentioned about practice making perfect - not wishing to sound defeatist i honestly dont think its something i could get my head round, at least not without a decade or two to spare - ive been playing string driven things since i was 14 - ie 35 years ago - so the playing is very much automatic now yet still i turn catatonic if i even so much as think about the first syllable of a vocal line!
 3.
The neck is the one thing I look to be correct on a bass, I doubt a twisted neck is going to be worth much. If the twist isn't too bad then someone might want to have a go at repairing it, but I doubt they'll pay much for the privilege. Sell the tuners separately
you can send it to me if you want i have a jazz body im currenlty building and ill see if i can get it repaired - will happily arrange cost of courier collection
 4.
I've always done it. My music-reading is rubbish, however. Could've included something about the subject of your thread in the title or subtitle field by the way. </pedant mode>
i know but it wouldnt have had the same level of intrigue would it - annoys hell out of me when im looking for a specific item in the for sale bits
 5. play and sing at the same time? i can sight read a bit, i have pretty good perfect pitch and a tape recorder memory for music but i'll be b**ggered if i can play and sing at the same time without stopping breathing!

 9.
Me too! Great sound from it - that's progress!
http://www.shergold.co.uk/gallery.html?item_id=34 hayman 4040://http://www.shergold.co.uk/gallery.h...4 hayman 4040
 10.
There was a gentle irony there - like, so f**k it's a Yamaha!
ive had two of the buggers and have nothing but praise for them!

 12. was it a shergold or was it a hayman ??
 13.
Here's the neck done other than the nut slot. It's now winging its' way to Scandinavia. As I had a fair amount of interest in an epoxy coating 'how to' I figured I should do a seperate build thread so as to maximise its' exposure.
WOW that looks amazing - would look stunning on my elm jazz body when i finally get it all cut!
 14. as a hydrive 4x10 owner i would say get the 4x10 now and then sneak in the 1x15 later while she's distracted
 15.
Would anyone fancy one of these if they were available? does anybody have hands that big that would need fanned frets? wouldnt the backwards slant between first and fifth frets cause some unnecessarily complicated fingering contortions?
 16. thanks for that - was assuming the same that the switching on the jacks inside the box must automatically set the impedance for one or two cabs - i'll leave them both out then!
 17.
No, I don't think so. On my 3500 they are for the DI out - ground lift and pre/post EQ Manual here: http://s3.amazonaws.com/samsontech/related...0_ownman_V5.pdf Seeing as how they have been installed, but not labelled, or included in the manual, I have no idea which way round they are (assuming they they are attached to anything).
maybe top button is for the send/return and bottom button for the speaker impedance??? im old and easily confused!
 18. doing the typical boy with new toy thing i finally decided to scan through the manufacturers instruction manual several weeks after buying only to find a small problem - seems as if hartke have left a small space in their diagram where a couple of buttons should be - am pretty sure they are to do with impedance but any hartke owners who could shed some light please on the exact description/configuration would be much appreciated (so far the amp has only been used with both buttons in 'out' position which im guessing must be 8ohm)
 19.
That was pretty crap as well to be honest, plenty of aimless noodling but played to a small audience than Dream Theater would entertain.
mike keneally being referred to as crap ? oh well first time for everything i guess
 20. please please please please please.... if you must indulge in technical excess, then do it with some flare and expression http://youtu.be/hEtZpLk1jjc i thank you
 21. sorry to hear your plight - just to reiterate several of the above - i used to own a handful of high spec guitars and basses and sold them all many years ago - the only one i ever regret selling was the status
 22. I used to own a trace 4x10 combo with a 1x15 cab and thought it was raher good - after a long break from playing ive decided to go out and pluck the strings again for a bit of a social life so i was lookiing for another trace rig but thought bugger the expense i'll take a gamble on the hartke after all the positive reviews id read - only got the 2500 head at the momet but the 4x10 hydrive cab is just amazing and i defy any die-hard trace fans to not be impressed - if you want exceptionally good clean tone at half the price of Trace then got for the Hartke! Am saving up as we speak to get LH500/LH1000

 24. hmmmm now where to start ..... its got to be the bass equivalent of 6/7 string metallllllll widdling? isnt it? i mean why do it iin the first place - very few can pull it off convincingly (small pun in there) and even the greast VW himself can become a tad boring and tiresome when he goes into one in the right place and in good measure it can be pretty amazing - check out the live version of stanley clarke and george duke playing silly putty very restrained without all the ungainly mark king thrashing around stuff (poor sound quality tho!)
