[/quote] Nigel old chap I get your point but cant help thinking your logic is slightly flawed there will never be 'another beatles' in the same way there has never been another mozart or bach - there will be many who achieve similar or equal critical acclaim and popularity, but never 'another' if im reading your OP correctly then im reading that your not blaming the beatles for being so good, but more the music industry execs for trying to exploit anything/everything that even remotely copmpares? after all to blame the beatles for causing our current malaise of mediocrity would be like blaming tim berners-lee for the pernicious targetted advertising tactics of google [quote name='xilddx' timestamp='1370546351' post='2102574'] Have they misjudged the young so much that they think they cant accept real innovation in mainstream pop music?[/quote] On the contrary they seem to be judging them very well and very cynically with force feeding them the sort of pap that will continue to help line their pockets - unfortunately for the 'record machine' the increasingly rapid changes of format have proved to be a tiny bit irksome for their rather one-sided marketing models and as times change ever more rapidly so their tactics will become ever more desperate and shoddy to keep apace i fear but as Alanis would say, isnt it ironic that vinyl is becoming soo fashionableagain and i bet theyre absolutley seeting about it as the resurgance in interest seems to be driven more by the music buying public supporting independent music shops (we have one here in medway which is thriving while neighbouring hmv struggle!) than anything promoted or driven by the industry edit- i think skank and risingson points about moral fibre and mediocrity can be influenced by geography too - if youre unfortunate that you live in an area with hardly any local creative arts scene then the wealth and diversity of new and young bands who shun the Simon Cowell marketing model will not be readily available for your entertainment and if you dont have the means to be able to easily travel to the next 'big town' then you can find yourself unfortunately at the mercy of whatever the tv/radio/internet is trying to force feed you this week - to demonstrate a simple point ive not even checked and im not going to even bother thinking about checking, but i am very confident in predicting that the recent tulisa/coke slow-mo car crash being dragged out in the media will only increase the poor unfortunate trollop's sales/download figures (back to skanks lack of moral fibre again) further edit (just for Nige) - FZ summed this up quite nicely many years ago in the lyrics of 'I'm The Slime' (as did Hiphoprisy with their one hit wonder!)
  4. if my back is playing up i will often sit for a while but that usually depends on the venue and space/seating available - our drummer has a spare drum stool with the added small back support which is very comfortable - i have in past experience of big band / stage band stuff and that was always seated

[/quote] id be inclined to disagree slightly on the first bit only because tastes change and you ten to drift a bit and spend lots of time listening to new stuff although if id had my blinkers on then i probably would have the entire catalogue on special collectors editions etc etc but yes indeed - only remember hearing the occasional tune on radio caroline in the late 70s but nothing on mainstream commercial radio at all - whereas the beatles i remember extremley well from the age of four from all the incessant daily airplay!!

  16. there is an obvious paradox here that makes this whole argument almost inevitably subjective there are very very few artists with such a massive and diverse catalogue of music anybody's comments will be subjective in as much as they will only relate to the FZ material they are familiar with anybody on here (or anywhere) claiming they were sufficiently familiar with his entire catalogue to make musicologically sound and objective opinions is probably some sort of musical crazy cat lady - ive been listening to FZ for the last 37 years and I would say i know about 25% of it very well - i would estimate about 50% of the catalogue i have never listened to oh and he's such a beatles rip-off isnt he? look what he did with the sgt pepper/only in it for the money album covers

We're selling enough merchandise to keep fuel in the vehicle, but in the next few months we're looking at video shoot, buying in more merch, paying for a radio plugger AND spending a good chunk on keeping the van on the road (which I fear is AGAIN going to fall solely on me, as it's my name on the V5). In short, zero social life to pay for band stuff. 2/ Wouldn't mind that too much, if it weren't for the fact that (as actually pointed out to me by a very good friend of mine a while ago) I'm totally the whipping boy of this band because I'm quite laid-back. Whilst the guys will talk each other up in company and onstage, as I'm 'just the bassist' I'm generally belittled. It's not serious (well, with two of the guys I can be pretty sure it's not serious), but it still leads to me feeling a good way below valued a good chunk of the time. 3/ To take things to the next level, we DO need to refine our live presentation (amongst other things). However, the way that this has been approached is essentially for another band member to watch back a video of a couple of performances and come out with a written list (a f***ing WRITTEN LIST!) of, essentially, stuff that I shouldn't be doing. Now, a reasonable suggestion was made to do a few rehearsals as if in front of a crowd and look at how we present ourselves, but the way it's been handled makes me feel like we're in 1 Direction or something, where every last move onstage is choreographed and any spontaneity is drilled out. [/quote] sounds to me like the major emphasis of this bands existence is some sort of PR and Marketing sausage machine exercise perhaps - lots of emphasis on 'look at us' not so much emphasis on 'listen to us' - fine if youre glam or theatrical i guess but superfluous if you are shoegazers ? if you really want to get so involved with PR and marketing then get somebody outside the musical element of the band to handle it - they can then tell the band (as a whole) exactly what all the costs and implications are too much assumption is being placed on your van ownership - on a plus note they are contributing petrol but is there any other acknowledgmnet regarding running costs - this can be affected also by many other factors - we cant assume that all band members have similar disposable incomes or domestic circumstances and all these thigngs will significantly vary each band members personal input at face value singling you out for critical treatment by video analysis does seem a touch overbearing but then again we dont know why they have done this - is it some way of alerting you to an irritating habit that they are too embarrassed to tell you directly to your face? too much speculaltion to be able to go into specifics but as others above have suggested the only way to clarify things is to talk with them
  21. +1 for squier - i have an affinity J and its the nuts and i gig it equally alonside a TRB - i recently checked out the exact same iaffinity J's in a couple of shops in west end and the 2102/13 squier affinitys are imho not quite as well finished as earlier ones - from serial number mine is 2009 - if you see one up on the boards 2009 and earlier is well worht the punt - newer ones id reiterate mr tractors comment and make sure you try before you buy
