CRASS was just a bit err crass wasnt it / werent they ? -
Don't be! Most of zappa's, if not all his solos were spliced from live recordings. Pitch raised to get it in the right key in the studio. Doesn't mean either of them can't play. Dan
not only that but they were often deliberately overdubbed over backing in a different time signature for added crazy syncopation check out this (the solo resolves back at about 7 minutes with the solo and backing as a genuine live performance - the guitar is sublime but PoH bass is amazing too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUfB06roxb4
K*nt and the Gang I can just imagine the guys having to explain that one to their Grannies when they say "so what's your band called?"
unless granny suggested the name after they couldnt come up with something themselves -
I used to be in a function band called The Swamp Donkeys (in-joke)
There is a function band around these parts called Jacuzzi Soup -
And that dear peeps is what it's all about. Next time the Glasto band knockers are playing the Frog and T*at on a Saturday night to 5 people and the landlords manky mutt, they out to think on about this. 80,000 smiling and dancing punters. Wow.
Good weather beer and disco biscuits plus the expectation and peer pressure that you must be having 'an awesome time' because youve just remortgaged the grandparents to be able to afford the tickets probably helps a wee bit too </cynic>

I simply don't believe that there isn't a band out there to make the list called the Rickenfrickenschmickenbackers -
Hi Iceonaboy. Ok Thanx for the quick reply, so my mate was probably right. I think the Tanglewood is only worth between £150-200 brand new. So to spend £100 having it re-fretted and set up, seems a bit of a waste
sell it on the forum boards or part ex it as a fretless _ the frets could be carefully removed and the fret slots filled and finished to make it into a reasonable fretless whcih you should be able to shift easily on the boards because many bass players want to try a fretless but it doesnt always suit everyone so if the opportunity arises to buy a cheapie at a good bargain price they will often surprisingly get snapped up i recommend a Squier J or a Yammy RBX
I never know the lyrics of a song but every so often some will resonate.
this is how you end up with a big female audience following when you do plenty of pink songs
-
because when you hear sh*t lyrics, you are immediately turned off a song
this i always take delight in reminding our singist that despite the songs being very catchy, rihanna will probably not be winning any ivor novello awards anytime in the next century or two
-
sometimes but more often than not im hearing the tune and the lyrics are just a necesary means of conveying the melody i only really pay attention to lyrics if it something of the calibre of joni mitchell or dylan or something similar where the song is the vehicle for some poignant tale eg tales from topographic oceans beatiful vocal melodies .... crazy unlistenable lyrics (unless of course youre off your tits) but try listening to something such as hurricane or hejira without listening to the lyrics!

imho the colour look s a bit too loud in that pic - like it's been 'shopped a wee bit to increase the saturation or luminance to make the purple even more 'wow'
I enjoyed them at Glasto.....sorry
dont apologise! regardless of whether or not you agree with the commercialsation of the event over the years etc etc the organisers do seem to try and put on a wide variety of acts to hopefully please the public at large, but ..... you cant please all the people all of the time! i cant stand m&s' music but they do make an entertaining visual show even with the sound off ... unlike primal scream who make me want to damage my own teevee
Guys, if you can't say anything nice... don't be haters life's too short. Just change the channel. They have done well, and they are top fellas.
yes indeed as ice says we are not against them just the dubious quality of their product im sure they are very nice guys but the thing that really grates for me is this whole foot stomping faux over-enthusiasm thing anyone fancy starting up a chumbawumba tribute band
-
The first couple of songs are inoffensive
... only if you accept the definiton of 'inoffensive' as being 'that which is likely to incite you to smack the perpetrator in the face with a shovel'
-
Our guitarist put a couple of theirs on our "set list suggestions" list I said fine, but you might need to find another bass player I always abide by the principle that if I haven't got got anything good to say about someone I say nothing, so here endeth the sermon on Mumford and sons!

thanks Rich - it is the earlier one with the sharp pointy corners instead of the rounded off ones but i did notice the screws on the side
I think she'd appreciate some TLC Steve, and she'd look the dogs in a tranny black jobby!
indeed do you 'know' her then mart? incidentally can anybody with an early style bridge point me at a detail pic or say whether the bridge had springs on the long screws through the saddles?
-
The upshot of this is if you want to change the neck on a genuine fender, atleast you can fit a genuine fender neck. £120 is not a lot more than a mighty mite job, I for one would be tempted. It will muddy the waters of an already murky marketplace though, but hey atleast something will be genuine!
could be that its a cunning marketing ploy to push/maintain the value of vintage originals??

ok so after all the lovely shiney on this thread, here's a dull old dog # 844 is a veritable hussy of a bass - i believe it has seen even more basschatters than the infamous R*******CKER thread i just bought it from cosmo who i think got it from cocco and heaven knows how many other basschatters before - please feel free to divulge and i will record its dirty past on the inside of the control panel plate like a tramp stamp the original bridge will be going back on eventually once i get some black springs for it and set it up am so tempted to have it lacquered up at status with the transluscent metallic charcoal-black hi gloss

saw him at jazz cafe in late 90s - unless the next jimi comes along any time soon you simply will not see a better guitarist
