I know what you mean about the 'cool' aspect. I loved Van Halen's set of walls of fake speaker cabs. But the fact is, big amps onstage is only old school cool nowadays. I really don't think the audience give a sh*t about seeing stacks on stage unless it's a deliberate part of a set.
or if theyre disguised as friggin washing machines or something stoooopid im inclined to agree Nige for gigs with a big rig out front for multiband afternoons and decent monitoring the stage stuff is just cosmetic - we did a local gig recently - JTUK was there and said FOH sounded good - onstage monitoring was great in fact the stage monitoring was so good i could not actually hear my 410 at all so i was essentially using my head as a oversized DI box!
Their acronym is M+S.... quite apt I feel
you buy your underwear from nu-folk bands then?

Most of what I've said about playing bass on here is bollocks.

Nige a huge part of it is all about pattern recognition especially reading the dots on the lines (IMHO) check out this little app - very interactive and useful for reading/recognising/learning notation and syncopation https://itunes.apple...ner/id396302174 notreble have a good apps section - this one looks great for the more advanced harmony stuff http://www.notreble....os-and-android/ http://youtu.be/LLJeHenKdlw -
ALRIGHT NOW soooo many people play what they think they remember and if you fancy a wee groove then try Nick Lowe 'Sound of Breaking Glass'
I have completed my statistical analysis, and 67% of BC members making more than 3.1 posts per week think everything's crap if it's sold more than 162 records, and isn't Jaco Pastorius or someone with no arms playing a guitar with their feet.
you forgot the f*cking beatles innit
Don't be! Most of zappa's, if not all his solos were spliced from live recordings. Pitch raised to get it in the right key in the studio. Doesn't mean either of them can't play. Dan
not only that but they were often deliberately overdubbed over backing in a different time signature for added crazy syncopation check out this (the solo resolves back at about 7 minutes with the solo and backing as a genuine live performance - the guitar is sublime but PoH bass is amazing too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUfB06roxb4
I used to be in a function band called The Swamp Donkeys (in-joke)
There is a function band around these parts called Jacuzzi Soup -
And that dear peeps is what it's all about. Next time the Glasto band knockers are playing the Frog and T*at on a Saturday night to 5 people and the landlords manky mutt, they out to think on about this. 80,000 smiling and dancing punters. Wow.
Good weather beer and disco biscuits plus the expectation and peer pressure that you must be having 'an awesome time' because youve just remortgaged the grandparents to be able to afford the tickets probably helps a wee bit too </cynic>

I simply don't believe that there isn't a band out there to make the list called the Rickenfrickenschmickenbackers -
Hi Iceonaboy. Ok Thanx for the quick reply, so my mate was probably right. I think the Tanglewood is only worth between £150-200 brand new. So to spend £100 having it re-fretted and set up, seems a bit of a waste
sell it on the forum boards or part ex it as a fretless _ the frets could be carefully removed and the fret slots filled and finished to make it into a reasonable fretless whcih you should be able to shift easily on the boards because many bass players want to try a fretless but it doesnt always suit everyone so if the opportunity arises to buy a cheapie at a good bargain price they will often surprisingly get snapped up i recommend a Squier J or a Yammy RBX
I never know the lyrics of a song but every so often some will resonate.
this is how you end up with a big female audience following when you do plenty of pink songs
