1. Why not use the topic of this thread as your inspiration and consider... 'Name Generator' or 'Coming up with Name'
2. I don't use it as often as I should considering I paid for it, but it is a useful piece of kit.
3.
...Secondary schools in Essex probably offer a G.C.S.E in Level 42,
I wasn't good enough to take the G.C.S.E in Level 42. I sat the C.S.E in Kajagoogoo
4.
EDIT: I found this clip on You Tube of a young bass player complying with all the current dress code and male grooming regulations regarding overly self-indulgent bass guitar playing : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFFQwYMZ40U Role model/ hair model .
OMG! That's me! Jokin' I've had the odd shameful hair style in my time but NEVER anything as bad as that, never, ever, never. PS: I may live in Merseyside but I'm originally from Essex…………. That probably doesn't move me up in anyones estimation.
5. I did a teeny weeny slap solo in the middle of Superstition last Saturday night, is this acceptable?
6. I think 6 Music just announced the album is released end of the month, they played a new track today, sounded awesome.
7. This is easy. Decide who the the leader of your band is, for example Jon Brown. Take the first name and make it a little more snappy like 'Johnny' Then take their surname and put it in front of the word 'tones' Bingo! You can play practically any genre of music under this monicker with the exception of Norwegian Death Metal.
8.
For me, it was getting to grips with the chords, arpeggios, intervals and scales of major harmony (as in the chords of a major scale) because from there I could hear where a melodic idea existed and from whence it came, so then to introduce more complex elements like altered, diminished, augmented etc scales and arpeggios could be done incrementally as developments and derivations of those core sounds.
Same here, my tutor never stops hammering home these lessons, (I'm a slow learner). 'Trane's Blues' with Paul Chambers was the first walking bass line I was told to listen to.
9. I find the easiest way to add songs to Amplitude is to add them via iTunes in the File Sharing section. Once you have all the songs you want added, disconnect the iPad, connect all your iRig back again and add the songs to Amplitude, it will convert each one to a .wav The Drum App in Amplitube can be a little awkward to use, a better choice is the free Drum App DM1, easy to use from the off and you can import your tracks into Amplitube. IMO it's well worth spending the extra cash if you can and upgrading to the recording and mixing plugins for Amplitube, for relatively small price you can have a very powerful recording suite in you back pocket. I'd be kinda lost without it these days.
10.
Maybe give them more appropriate names than Slutmagnet and DeependDominator.
Genius! Think I'll print them out on labels and stick them on the appropriate bass, why didn't I think of this before...
11. I assume this comes with the charger, base station and cable?
12. So much energy in this performance. http://youtu.be/CrBBHDJMEuQ
13. I have no particular place in the house in which I store my guitars and I'm a bugger for coming in from rehearsal or gigs and propping the case against a wall, behind the sofa, next to my desk, etc... This winds the GF up no end and I'm continually being told to tidy them away, but until she stops referring to individual instruments as the blue one, the brown one, the shiny one, (I know, annoying isn't it?) instead of their proper names, I will continue to scatter them about the household. It's only a matter of time before I come home to a bonfire in the back garden with my Fender Jazz in flames, but I'll deal with that when it happens...
14.
My wife's idea: nicely displayed, safe from the kids and easy for me to pick one up whenever inspiration strikes.
Does your wife have a sister?
15. I'll use the TC Electronic Polytune, it's not perfect but does a pretty good job, the tuner in the iRig software also works well.
16. Well, that's just made a mockery of the whole thread. I'm changing my choices. I'd like to nominate Mark King, no one here at work has heard of Level 42, and they have no idea what 'slap bass' is.
17. The line that makes your booty move...
18.
A bit like 'a drivers car' - its a way that people use to describe something they have to make themselves sound discerning and informed.
Hmmm, *ponders this*, not so long ago I purchased a rather nice Alfa Romeo, one of the first things the dealer said to me was "That's a real drivers car you've got there sir" I later learnt what this meant - it's bloody horrible to drive! Actually quite like it now…
19.
The problem is that there are too many pubs putting music on and people get used to not paying for it. And with the relaxing of the license fee...so many pubs can now do it.... BAD MOVE..imo.
Applies to covers bands mostly, but there is a very good reason why pubs, clubs and bars put on live music/entertainment, it increases their bar sales, on average, by 40% opposed to venues that do not. Remember that when you're negotiating your fee with the Landlord next time. And don't think for a instant that the owners are booking you because they like your music!
20. This might help him. "If you play the wrong note in a song, do it again, people will think you meant it."
21.
[sup]Bob Daisley for me.[/sup] [sup]Neil Murray also a maybe in this category. [/sup]
Good choices.
22.
I use an iPad, amplitube and iRig. Works well for me as you can pull anything in from the iTunes library and slow things down without altering pitch. I know there's cheaper alternatives but if you've got an iPhone then the only cost is the irig connector.
I've been using the same for a year or so now, certainly makes learning new songs a whole lot easier and pleasurable. The iRig software comes with all kinds of add-ons too, drum looper and a recording and mixing suite if you want to spend a little more cash. Easy to lay down a quick chord sequence to play over, or set a drum pattern to any time signature, I've even used it to record band demos in rehearsal. There used to be a quality issue with the original iRig connector but the new HD version is well worth the money imo.
23. Sack the guitarist, you're gonna have to do it at some point so best get it out of the way now, saves a lot of bother later on...
