1. Hi there, If you're putting together a Fender-style Jazz or PJ bass project, this is just what you need. It's in good condition and ready to use. If you'd like leads soldered on for connection to the pups, then let me know and I'll do that in with the price. This is yours for £20 posted Thanks for looking
2. Hi there, I recently bought this from another BCer, but after fitting I've decided to sell the bass even though this gave a massive improvement over the existing, so this is surplus to requirements. This model has the shaped response. It also comes with the battery clip connected and fly-leads attached for connection to the pups. It comes with the connection instructions as well. The bass I've fitted it in was a Fender Deluxe Jazz, but it was designed for a Lakland. Here's what East have to say about it: http://www.east-uk.c...o/dj-retro.html Dropped to £125 posted For more pics: http://s1175.photobu...ics/East?sort=3 Thanks for looking and feel free to checkout my feedback.
3. I just had the pleasure of meeting with Gareth when buying his Thumb. (A Warwick. He's not yet into selling limbs, no matter how samll). It was a nice easy transaction. The bass was just as desribed. fairly priced and a good cuppa provided when we got there. Many thanks Gareth PS: Since this I'm now a bit P@@@@d off as he sold it as Bubinga - it's not, it's ovankol!!
4. I just bought an East Preamp from Mike. It was a nice easy transaction. Good coms. Many thanks, Mike
5. Another good guy to look up is Steve Lawson. Going off track a bit; Steve is left handed and plays right handed. I was in a Q&A session with him and he said he found slap n pop really hard to master. It made me (another leftie) feel much better about my own pathetic efforts.
6.
ziggydolphinboy drop me a PM Thanks for the info Jakester
Can I be next in line please?
7. At the recent Herts Bass Bash we had a presentation by Andrew of D'Addario. Bluejay will be posting a video of it when someone has improved the sound. What Andrew told us was that compliance isn't to do with flat or round, but it's down to the core thickness. Thicker cores give less compliance. How you find out the core thickness is of course another matter.
8. Do you know, I was just thinking, I've never bought from Gary, or sold to him. I've met him on a fair number of occasions. He's a good guy. I just thought I'd say that. I guess this feedback thread speaks for itself already. But anyone can buy or sell with confidence.
9. This reminds me of a bass I saw on another thread. I'm not certain, but I think Discreet has one not unlike this. Have you heard about his yellow bass?
10. This is strange. I keep trying things like changing strings and wiring the pups straight to a jack, and nothing seems to change drastically, but the more I play it the more the treble seems to come into the sound. Really odd... all I can do is keep playing it and see if it gets better.
11. PMed with a view to buying
12. I'd go with Ikay's advice. I also so happen to have some waxes of various shades. PM your address and I'll send you some. You won't need much. When you get the wax it's really hard. Roll it round in your hands for a few minutes and the warmth of your hands melts the wax until it's kneedable. You then fill the holes, like you would with plastacine. The wax re-sets and it's all done.
13. Have you tried T-Cut the stuff for removing scratches from cars? Otherwise you could sand it lightly and apply a new coat of lacquer
14.
Thanks for posting. I can see you're a Warwick fan!
Certainly. The Nords aren't to my taste particularly, but this a beaut of a bass. GLWTS
15. I just found this video that is very relevant to this bass. GLWTS https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1zU2hbl6GxU
16. Nice looking bass and he seems a nice guy from the PMs we've exchanged. Have a bump on me
17.
I tried this in a shop but really didn;t like the feel of the bass or its sound, its all personal in the end!!
I don't own mine anymore which says it all really. But it's worth exploring, and you had. So alls good. Good luck in the search.
18.
What's needed is a fully blind test, with the basses played by robots. Then we'd get a robust answer. No good having blinded players playing the basses, they'd be able to feel the different textures of the wood. However, if the purpose of this is more entertainment than answering the question, a test like this is fine.
Come to that is a judging panel of 30 a big enough market sample? Also, as we're all bass players are we representative of the listening public? It was fun and most of us were surprised at what we heard and found ourselves voting for; me included. I owned the Rosewood P bass and voted for the Maple neck P. But like Lozz, what do I know?
19. Basses are cheaper in the US. If you're coming back, leave the Ibby with a mate as you go and buy a nice bass in the USA. Depending on voltages and things an amp could be a bigger hassle than the bass. Maybe buying something like a Zoom B3 or a Vox Amplug would be a good idea and practice with headphones? Or buy a cheap amp in the USA on Craigslist and sell again before you come back.
20. Hey look at that!
21. If it makes you feel better. I've been there too. It was a cheap East German vintage bass with the old style truss rod where you have to bend the neck and wind the TR to take up the slack. I didn't know this and excess force happened and.... "bang". There we go, one broken TR.
22.
Leo Fender must have thought it made a difference, as even after it had been removed on Fender basses, through body stringing was included in the final design of MusicMan basses. I think he left it out on G&L though. I can string through the body on all my basses and I've tried on 2 of them. I didn't notice much difference in sound or feel, but then my senses aren't that finely tuned. There are no down sides to through body stringing and only you can decide if you discover any benefits.
Maybe the reason for taking it to MM is that it sells instruments.
