1. Hi guys I am struggling for inspiration for songs to practice.....beyond the obvious ones...can anyone mention things they are learning at the moment?
2. Yeah yeah we all know about the legendary production work and I knew he played bass a bit but I just found this vid on youtube and his freakin awsome Never knew that bit from 'close to the edit' was played on bass! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-o5C_d72vA
3. Roxy were a fantastic band. My favourite was 'Same Old Scene' played by Gary Tibbs of Adam & The Ants fame
4. Everyone says 'Remain In Light' is THE Talking Heads album, but I always preferred 'Speaking In Tounges'. "This Must Be The Place" was about the third single I ever bought.
5. I've got adobe auditon that you jsut record whatever is coing out of your pc soundcard. When it's finished just save it as an mp3.....quailty is excellent.....thanks spotify

7. Funny that someone posted a thread about boogie nights earlier! I have just been grooovin on bass to this little belter I didn't know existed until yesterday.......what a song!.....now officially my favourite disco song ever..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glrl4LcvU5g Can anyone recommend any other Heatwave tracks with funky bass in? (except boogie nights!) Sadly it seems the little fella with the falsetto voice was paralysed in a car crash from the neck down in 1979 and died a couple of years ago. Man those cats can grooooooove...dig the dancing
8. Track down some Mick Karn for the God of fretless. Bernard Edwards for his stuff with Chic / Diana Ross / Carly Simon / Sister Sledge etc etc Any of The jam stuff with Bruce Foxton or Dave Allen with Gang Of Four

10.
The lyrics are so cheeseworthy but the bass part gets my neck a-twitching every time.
That track is just a sample from The Chilli Peppers 'Pretty Little Ditty'
11. Here goes.... I always liked the line in 'My Camera Never Lies' by Bucks Fizz...no idea who played it..I also liked Jay Aston but then who didn't? Video Killed The Radio Star...Trevor Horn on bass I am guessing with a bit of fretless chucked in at the start for good measure.
12.
How about the early singles by the Real Thing- 'You to me are everything', and 'Cant get by without you' ? Both well crafted pop songs (okay both v.similar) with great bass lines, yet predating a lot of the great US disco era stuff too. Saw them live in the late 70's and they were ace.
Didn't one of the guys from The Real thing write Thriller for Michael Jackson?
13.
'Too Shy' by Kajagoogoo is pretty bad then and now.
Nick Beggs is a God an I like Kajagoogoo
14. I heard a story that Queen & Chic met in a recording studio somewhere and the mighty Bernard Edwards played JD the line he was working on for 'Good Times'...JD then adapted it for 'Another Bites The Dust'...makes sense.
15. Just discovered this brilliant site last night http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/dt/abc-...049430-116.html it has a huge archive of live gigs and there is a guy listed as Robert Clark playing with ABC in Boston in 1982 and the bass on these live tracks is fantastic. Anyone know who this guy is?
16.
James Eller- on several Julian Cope solo songs eg. "Trampoline", and The the's Dusk album.
Good Shout...love both albums I'd like to nominate 'Brad Lang' for the excellent bass on 'Lexicon Of Love' by ABC and the brilliant late-great 'Alan Spenner' who I just found out played on ABC's 'Beauty Stab'. Loved his work with Roxy Music also
17. They are in Brighton tomorrow but couldn't find anyone to go with ...what makes it worse is that an old schoolmate of mine emailed to tell me how good they were in Cardiff I always loved the bass in "When the scream subsides"
18.
Good call, probably the main reason I picked up a bass was after hearing Andy Rourke. If you like 'Draize Train', chances are you'll probably like this too. Saw them do this live Salford back in '86. Which shortly afterwards became this!
Cheers, being a Roxy fan i knew about this one
19.
well as far as I'm concerned the all time low was the one finger synth bands of the 80's. Boy did I hate that stuff. At the moment I hear the odd record that I like, not that I ever listen to music on the radio - I prefer talk sport or 5 live.
Sorry but I disagree...I grew up in the 80's and for me the synth bands are brilliant. I posted a similar post some time ago as modern pop music is utter utter crap. Where is the new Led Zep/Clash/Smiths/Specials/New Order/Sto ne Roses/Depeche Mode..etc.etc.... How anyone can come on here and tell me Franz Ferdinand/Killers/Artic Monkeys etc are fit to wipe the arse of the bands above is beyond me. The only bands I here making halfway decent stuff is Kasabian & Keane. I did like 'A' & Mansun but nobody else did apparently!
20. Spotted this video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zNdMc6wGtU Anyone know what bass that is? basses always looked too big for her....she has to be my favourite female player and I definately had a crush on her growing up
21.
MB1. A similar sound can be obtained...... If you make Swans eat Beefburgers!
don't they explode?...or is that seagulls & mustard?
22.
Yeah, I was discussing this with my art teacher. He said that Gary dropped into obscurity for a while, but is making a bit of a comeback recently. Nah, but I'm fairly sure Friends are. amidoinitrite? Zach
Numan never worked for South West trains ffs, I saw him live a few times during the 'fallow' years. My mate and I asked for his autograph once outside his gig, He said "got a pen?"...."no" we replied...."gonna be a bit difficult then isn't it", he replied. He was very short though
23. Mick Karn was a huge reason i wanted to play bass. Fantastic He plays on 'Dance' by Gary Numan and plays on 'Night Talk' & 'Slow boat to China' off the top of my head. Numan loved 'Tin Drum' by Japan and wanted to have a similar sounding album. Apparently Karn slagged off the album to the music press after it's release and he and Numan fell out over it
24. Play that funky music - Wild Cherry Damn! I wish I had the funk
25.
Records = Not too bad Live = Dire I should add that my judgement of "live" shows is based on what I've seen on telly. Steve
Live = Dire Are you having a laugh? It makes me laugh when people with about 1/10th the talent of these guys come on here and comment about their playing. I saw the Police at Cardiff on the comeback tour and they were awsome. I have seen 100s of bands through the years and I know a dire live performance when I see one.
