1.
With any luck - my new rig (the rack at least , may be using generic cabs) will be in evidence at the Clarence Park Festival here in Wakefield on Sun 22nd July. We're doing a 40 min slot at 7.45 pm with our ZZ trib band 'Eliminator' All welcome - I'm the one in a ridiculous long beard fighting the Explorer!!!
what is your new rig to be , Dave?
2. the 102p is a great cab. I gigged last night with mine, and it was great again. It lacks a little on a B string, but in all trtuth you need no more as long as you have PA support (I always do). My rig is my monitor, at the end of the day, and it can get bloody loud.
3. I still reckon that proper low end all the way out into the room will need some PA support. Unless you have massive cabs, and then they will be too loud on stage.
4. I have found this fairly consistently to be an issue. Thus I use the PA. My rig is for the stage sound, and the PA is for the FOH. It works. But we all go into the PA, so it is easy. WIth a vocal only PA, you will be lacking any proper low end meat from the kick drum in medium to large rooms, and the only solution is a mic on the kick and snare, at which point the whole band should go into the PA anyway. Chris
5.
I'm writing a book on him and Nile Rodgers - it will have 20 transcriptions (bass and guitar) and hopefullly lots of detail - tricky, as you say, there's not a lot of info out there on him. STu
good move, put me down for a copy. Bernard is the MAN. and pmd too.
6. dont forget the digitech jamman too - I have one and it is fabbo
7. Well... 2 basses Amp Head Cab DI box Wireless Tools/fuses/batteries/cables That is it. 2 basses in case of failure of one. The PA is my amp backup - I could manage a gig if my head failed, as I go thru the PA anyway.
8. great suggestions above, and I wont repeat them. I am a fan of Bernard Edwards, and would champion For Once In My Life too. I would also throw in Dancing Queen. A hugely impressive masterclass in musical bass playing which flows and bounces along with nuances and a great "rubbery" feel. Brilliant.
9.
I'd seriously recommend you try to find a HH or HS SR5- I reckon that would suit you down to the ground- They do a really good jazz impression, it's proper cross between an SR5 and a Jazz. I had a lakland 55-02 but the SR5 HH does the best of both worlds thing WAY better and in a 34" scale.
cool, my options are stacking up and I will get back to everyone ASAP. Russ, have you got a HS or HH? Does it really do the jazz bass sound? I need something that will give a deeper sound than a normal ray?
10. Righty ho everyone. My Black USA JAzz four string needs to be swapped for a fiver of some description. Reason - I need five strings on my main band, plain and simple. So thus I always use my SR5, but for some numbers teh Jazz has a deeper more trad tone. Just seeing what is out there really. Mine is around 2001 vintage, rosewood board, black paint, black scratchplate. Full original hard case and all the gubbins. Would consider a USA Jazz fiver, or Lakland, or Warwick, or MM wiht 2 pickups (HS or HH) or anything really, but it needs to be a decent bass, in simliar good/very good condition to mine. Cash from me if required. SO, whatcha got? Cheers all Chris
11. If you liked the Stingray, get one. I am biased, as I seldom use anything else, but mine cost me £750, and it was a mint ltd edition too. I am sure you could pick one up second hadn as I did, for basically half price. Chris
12. Bought this one It has a good section for tools, spares etc, a padded section foy my wireless, and sections for leads, DI box, ipod, my microtrack etc. Very well made, a great shoulder strap, should last for years. My LMII goes in its own bag anyway. Well pleased with it C
13. My blacks do not stock that bag. Bugger. Found a nice one in Debenhams of all places, but £50, so we will see...need to ponder it.
14. I think I might look seriously for a 700RB210. Do they have a clear, deep sound? And has anyone tried the neo versions@ Chris
15. lol, yeah, when I used my old big MB head, Korg Rack Tuner and wireless all in a Gator 4U it kind of made it easier (if not heavier). Still, only need a little rig now, so this will do nicely. Thanks for your help
16. Cool, I will nip in to blacks tomorrow (I work around the corner). I need a new bag for my Shure SLX wireless, toolkit, leads, ipod, microtrack, leads, bla bla bla (my LMII goes in the MB bag, as you know), as the strap on my RokSak bag broke, so this looks to be the ticket. LMII bag high on right shoulder, Blacks bag lower on same shoulder, 2 bass gigbags in right hand, cab in left hand. Job done. Cheers Chris
17. how much was the bag dave?
18. I might chime in here - I was going to start a new thread just now, and spotted this. Hop ethis is not seen as a hi-jck - I think it will help all concerned - I am pondering getting a kickback combo myself, but one that is big enough to gig with. The MB 210 seems like an option, as do the various GK ones, but are there any others worthy of consideration as a pro-level combo, with kickback facility? I like the idea of carrying my whole rig in one hand, plonking it down, plugging in and hey presto C
19. nice Luke. And you should hold on to that drummer - very nice playing
20. I need to add something to the above - I do not own a P at all, but do own a USA Jazz 4 string and my Stingray 5 string. I take both to all gigs and practices, but the Stingray get the nod for a number of reasons: 1..it is a five string, whihc I need to some tunes, and can't be arsed changing basses 2..it plays like a dream, a bit better than the Jazz (although that is no slouch either) 3..being the SR5, it has a 3 position selector. In the centre position it does a reasonable J sound - not the same, but does the job. The Bridge position is classic Stingray 4, whihc is great, and the Neck position is a powerful rock sound. And the 3-band EQ gives a pretty wide variety of tones - enough for me, anyway. 4..the Ray has a tighter bottom end, whihc in the reality of most gigs, I find useful, since boominess can be tamed in the way that is not possible with the Jazz, I feel The only thing the Ray lacks is the classic passive tones of a P or J, and at home I usually love the sound of the J bass, but in a band my Ray is the one for me, at least. What do others reckon? C
21. Jazz.... ...but I find my SR5 better for my covering needs (function stuff..you know the type of thing) -the fivers are a lot mer versatile than the SR4 But, yes, Jazz IMHO :-)
22. nice ray
23. John - it is actually quite deep, but yes, it is very portable indeed. It is really pretty fine on its own, and only loses a litte llow end "feel" if you know what I mean. But at the end of theday, it is reall good, fine forrehearsals and PA supported large gigs. I cannot say enough good things about thelarger cab tho - stilla one hand carry, and a brilliant all-round cab. Cheers Chris
