1. i thought you loved this head? some one will get a great amp here. good luck with the sale
2. firts post updated to reflectatest date tomorrow 18th may. be cool to see you. quite a boomy stage are from memory of the last gig, so will be usign the sr4 to keep things clear, instead of the depth of the gandl. that is what i love about the stingrays, in muddy venues you know you will be ok! cheers chris
3. good point mark, i have found exactly this and mainly use two,as in the clip. the third comes out for the odd reach over to a higher string. ultimately i am aiming for a consistent technique applicable to all situations. guven the time, this would get a couple of hours work a day, but i am lucky to get a couple of hours a week to practice, such is life
4. posted this in floating thumb and realised I should put it here. This is my "fun" band. Filed doing one of our more predictable numbers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd7ijoPye0k Still any comments welcome, we have broad shoulders. 5.
I don't think that octaves with floating thumb are any more difficult than using an anchor, movable or otherwise. It's just the difficulty inherent in playing two non-adjacent strings with digits that are right next to each other (i.e. standard IM alternation, with or without raking), unlike using hybrid picking to pluck octaves on guitar. Erring slightly off-topic here, whilst I would agree that there's no reason that you have to use index-middle to pluck octaves, and that thumb and another digit make it easy, by all means use it, but I would encourage people to develop their technique to a level such that you don't get impeded by things like this. To switch from two finger to thumb and index (say) and back again, no matter fluid, will never be as quick as not switching at all and being able to do said octave licks (string skipping et al). Mark
exactly. I am working to not have to switch technique. It is coming quickly, as I am a grade 8 classical guitarist, so am using all 3 fingers, which makes it fine. A bass is a lot bigger and more physical to play, hence the practice needed. I am using floating thumb in this video clip live clip - floating thumb if anyone is interested. Feedback welcome
6. cool I do floating thumb, non anchored, and find it fine, except for octave licks, where I seem to be better anchoring fully. Working on keeping floating, but feels a bit awkward.
7. wahey, 102hf fan club starts here lol. (on Talkbass it probably WOULD become a club)
8. these are good. I ahve 2 of the ones with ports at top and bottom - the previous version. Well recommended
9. so, in essence, without basslines a hell of a lot of tunes would not be the songs they are. so, bass rules.....but we all know our power to shape harmony, feel, groove etc etc love it - always sing the bass lines....well, i do anyway lol cheers from the pub chris
10. possibly not this, but if the sample rate is not set right, it will change the speed?

13. Hi I have a mint condition Microbass II from EBS. I bought it from Homer 2 or 3 months ago. Fully boxed, pretty much as new. It is a great unit, and this is the newer one with a pad on the input etc. Perfect working order. I am only looking to sell it as I need to raise some funds towards a guitar amp for a project I am involved in as guitarist. (ENGL Screamer 50 is my currrent top choice btw). ALthough I love it, I DI using my Radial JDI, so it is a bit of a luxury to be honest. I have not done any pics yet, but will sort some out for anyone who is intersted. I think I paid £180 for it, so I will accept this amount, plus postage (probs around a fiver?). So, who wants it? Chris
14. I am getting on fine with the SR4 Simon - it is a good bass, and I love the finish. I prefer it to my old maple necked one which I sold a couple of years back. How is the cab going? I owuld be keen to try the $$
15. I can bring my SR5, GandL 2500 and SR4. And my Mrkbass stuff if necessary/andyone wants to check it out?
16. the car park is not huge, but there is one, with probably 20-30 spaces I think? The area is fairly residential though, so you should be able to drop gear off and then park up 5 mins away if necessary I would think.
17. Excellent, just down the road.... I thought I was going to be on holiday, but I am here after all, so will be there. Do we know about timings at all yet? Lets do a list to which folk can add?? moody budget bassist birdy nottswarwick Chris
18. Very good choice with the 3500 Hartke. I had one in the past and it was great. I dont think you would regret buying one for the money. My choice would be a 4*10, but this is where it is up to your ears to decide. I just think the 4*10 is a better "single cab" option than a 15".
19. strings on the gl are daddario super long nickels. stingray are nickel slinkys
20. actually, now you menton it the circle clip with the sr4 was through the multicomp and yes, the radial jdi. i always ise the jdi live. but the other two clips were g #and l direct into the desk. sounds good, loads of organic depth.
21. mmm, which is series actually, middle switch towards bride or neck. I did mine with the switch towards the neck - the lounder setting, always thought this is series, I may in fact be wriong. Anyone?
22. yep, I think it will be one for a good few years to be honest.
