this is what I mean and it worries me

Can I be permitted to ask a question which may have been answered in the previous 60 pages which I have skimmed only? Summary - I recently tried a Headrush 12" cab, and concluded that it worked well for guitar, but for bass was lacking at gig volumes. It felt "toy-like" and I was a little "on edge" with the volume as I felt like I might damage it with full on bass - certainly not anything I ever think with my Markbass rig. Even with guitar, it was on volume 7 of 10 for gig volume. Certainly not feeling like 2000w peak, or 1000w continuous - I suspect this has been covered and is a load of bobbins anyway... However, it sounded great to be fair, and thus I don't wish to rule out the "one rig for guitar and bass duties" concept just yet. I have used "better" far more expensive cabs for PA duty (RCF 7 series, the more expensive Yamaha cabs etc) and these all seem better made - and indeed you do get what you pay for. SO the question for the assembled masses is "will spending more than the £275 cost of the Headrush yield me a single active PA speaker cab that will easily handle guitar and bass, with pre-amp pedal boards, at gig volumes without fear of breaking them, while sounding good and being reliable". And if so, which ones? Sorry that this will mean a little repetition here, the thread is huge. Thanks Chris

I know we seem to have decided this, but I tried the Headrush 12" one - it felt like a toy for bass, not anywhere near strong enough n my view. The RCF 7 series cabs of course are a lot more expensive and are consequently superb.

While we are at it, has anyone tried the New York 122 cab? I note that both this and the Miller cabs have the voice coil tweeter, whereas the standard range all have the compression driver..

last night I used a Headrush ffr112 cab, on a guitar gig,…this could work for bass. will check out the forum on this too

Ahoy there. Quickie here - very much enjoying my Marcus Miller 1000w head. Much has been said on here about these. I am using it (carefully - 1000w…) in to a Markbass Standard 102HF cab. Sounds good, but these cabs in my view at least, are very coloured in terms of being quite mid heavy and warm (which is nice) but without much in the way of top end “zing” - the tweeter is more of a mellow thing, rather than an ice pick. Certainly nice for on stage audibility in terms or the mids, but bears little resemblance to the sound in the PA when DI’d… My question is, has anyone here used one of the MArkbass Marcus Miller cabs? I see they have a different tweeter, and can only assume that they have a lot more high end than the standard range, given the sound that Miller is renowned for. Anyone? Maybe I need something more FRFR, of the Barefaced variety .. Cheers Chris

are people’s experience of the XR18 generally positive? I have use the soundcraft ui24 before and have found the connection via WiFi to be a little unreliable at times...which is a little disconcerting to say the least. i have to say that looking at the specs it looks ideal for my 2 bands. I drum in one and bass in another, and already have iems and belt clip amp.

What pre Amps are people using generally?

I tried this out of necessity a couple of weeks back as you may have seen in my thread. Necessity was that I was “between amps” and had a gig dipping with my old band (which I’ve since rejoined). I was using a fairly mid range (price wise) dB cab, but only with a 10” driver. At home it sounded good, but on the gig that particular cab could only just keep up. I had PA support so all was fine, but only just. Someone in this thread said that it depends on the cab. And clearly it does. Top line PA cabs with more power in reserve, a better tweeter, and probably a bigger driver would probably be great, but they come with a cost. I love the idea of it, but I think one needs to have a bass rig in ones Arsenal to cover all options,

Ah yes I thought those were the mini cabs. I had some of those years ago and thought there were ace.

I’m gonna be annoying and say I can’t be bothered to read 124 pages. Would someone be forgiving enough to tell me which 5 string I should buy- 435 735a BBP35 Really, is the 735a much better than the 435 (excepting the obvious fact that it’s active) obvs I need to play some, but I’m currently lying on the sofa so it’s not an immediate option.
