1. One feature which I've found immensely useful (particularly when using fuzz & distortions)) is being able to blend some dry signal into the output. Not all multi effect pedals can do this so if you think this will be important for you then make sure it's there in whatever you choose. This feature is available directly in the Line 6 Bass PODxt and in the Boss GT10b and Line 6 HD500 through the use of the dual effects routes (the latter is not strictly a bass pedal). It could be available in other multi effects - I don't know. It is the lack of this feature which has put me off things such as the M9 and M13 which otherwise look fantastic.
2.
http://tabs.ultimate...y_ver6_btab.htm Sounds good enough to me
That's roughly what I play. Live videos show it all played around the 10th fret, I think an octave / synth effect may be what makes it sound like dropped D.
3. Better than that - 6k per channel, so that's 12k per unit, 48k for the rack!!
4. That's interesting, this post looks fine - don't know what's different in the post about Jack's avatar!
5. Hi, If I put a blank line into a post such as: http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__1377428 it seems to end up as a double blank line! Looks fine when I'm entering the post, and looks fine in the preview but when in the normal forum display there seems to be too much space where the blank lines were entered. In the example above there was one blank line entered before each of the links to Jack's pictures and one after but the resulting post seems to have much more than one blank line before each link and a little more than one blank line after. It'll be interesting to see how this post turns out (one blank line before and after the link above - looks fine in the preview)!
6. I don't know why this should be but the "Jack" on this page is: http://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/basschat-uploads-live/profile/photo-thumb-333.gif which doesn't dance while the picture on Jack's profile page is: http://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/basschat-uploads-live/profile/photo-333.gif which does dance. Somehow the link on the post pages needs to be made to be the latter rather than the former. Any ideas admins?
7. PA has to be ignored otherwise the question becomes meaningless. Imagine the best amp in the world playing though a 1 inch laptop speaker ... my mind says bad sound. Imagine a weedy mobile phone amplifier driving your dream stack of speakers ... again bad sound. So I think both are important.
8. Looks like I must be playing the wrong thickness strings because I still prefer B! I don't think it's because it's louder either since I can turn it down to be quieter than the other two and still prefer it. To my ears the instruments can be heard more clearly, there's more character and more excitement. A and C both sound rather flat & muffled in comparison. I'd keep your guitarist in the loop with the mixing.
9. I like B - OK it is distorted but at least it's clear, has some energy and is much more exciting. A and C both sound muffled to me so with that in common I'd guess that these are your recordings and B is the studio going for a live sound.
Ah. All good info... It looks like parallel to me ...
No, it's series as KiOgon said.
Check those labels again 2x15" I reckon Ah! chris_b was typing same time as me Edit again: Looks like they're 2 x 8 Ohm units wired in series so 16 Ohm as is, you could change it to 4 Ohm if you want to wire them in parallel.
11. I've loved John Martyn's music since I first saw him in the 70s, just him alone with his acoustic and loops - amazing. I saw him again a few years later but he had a band with him and I didn't like that so much. I still listen to his Solid Air album a lot.
12. Thank you all for your replies
13. I hope you don't mind me asking but I see quite a few threads discussing the defretting of basses and I'm curious to know why this is being considered rather than a change of bass to a fretless model. I can see the advantages of obtaining an already fretless bass since it can be tried to determine suitability but to turn a fretted bass into a fretless seems a step into the unknown. Are fretless basses scarce, expensive, not as good as defretted? Thanks for your time.
14.
Never knew he was in The Blockheads til I watched this. How on earth that passed me by, I just do not know!
According to Wikipedia he didn't join until 1980 which I think was the date in the credits of the OGWT concert.
15. All first times are a step into the unknown. Good luck and have fun
16.
I think it ultimately starts with the player. Put someone else playing Tim Commerford's gear and it won't sound like him.Likewise,Tim C will sound similar to how he does on his fancy rig with pretty much anything. There is a video of Billy Sheehan playing a Danelectro at a trade show through a Pigtronix Philosophers Tone pedal, and he sounds just like Billy Sheehan.
I agree, I think much of somebody's sound comes from the person.
17. That's a very long bookcase you have!
18. Transcribe for transcribing Audacity for recording and editing Lillypond + Frescobaldi for writing
19. Would something like Transcribe (www.seventhstring.com) help? I find its ability to slow things down, filter out certain sections and have a stab at which notes are present pretty useful. It could be considered a cheat but I consider it a practical aid.
20. Sounds silly but I think it depends what you play: red looks more aggressive while the blue green is more laid back. So red if you play loud and hard but blue/green if you're a bit more subtle. Alternatively, from a purely "which is best looking" point of view, I'd say red. <waffle off>
