1. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310369472797?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_1558wt_1396 i came across them while looking for a pickup for a new project of mine. Im wondering as i would love to know their resistance before i commit to buying them. Ive asked the seller, and they dont have a multimeter to check So if anyone can tell me, that would be fantastic.
2. I agree with lawrence. When i had a massive blister on my middle finger, my ring subbed in and was fine, cept it was unused, so it ended up with a blister too.
3. i dont think my ears are trained for such a thing, but i think the nut is more slippery when tuning and what not.
4. I made my own a few months ago using a dremel mostly. its quite easy. Here is my build thread on it. I also built another one for my jazz since then. And i used an old cow bone that my mates dog let me have http://basschat.co.uk/topic/138446-homemade-bass-bone-nut/
5. on the body, is the route for the neck pickup a swimming pool, or pickup size?
6. Ive got a lovely jazz a few months ago, and i think the only thing its missing is a bound and blocked neck. If i have that done, i know it would look perfect. So does anyone here know where i can get this job performed? also, pic of it, cos why not.
7. I seem to have acquired these cables from a friend, however, i have less than no use for them. One is a van damme cable, one is a klotz, and the third has no name, and all three have neutrik jacks on them. If someone has some sort of decent classic 1/4 to 1/4 instrument jack, i would be well chuffed to trade for these. PM me with offers, and depending on what you have to offer affects how many of these cables you get from me (ie, 1 good cable from you = 1 of these. 1 amazing = 2 . 1 fantabbydozy = all three) also now for sale. £7 inc p&p for the two named, £5 inc p&p for the no-name.
8. i have a large favour to ask anyone with one of the amazing sabres in this awesome thread. Would you possible trace the body on some paper and send that piece of paper to me? Since i am currently too poor to buy a real one, i want to have a go at making my own. PM me if you can please.....
9. use a bit of twine to make sure the strings are ligned up properly, as well as putting the bridge far back enough to be able to intonate it without any problems
10. Ive gotten these two places from here. They seem alright http://www.touchstonetonewoods.co.uk/ and http://www.tonetechluthiersupplies.co.uk/vmchk/Timber-Parts-and-Tonewood/View-all-products.html?TreeId=12
11. I too would be interested to know who around here can knock up a bass body.
12. Ive got a vintage jazz style bass. Sounds exactly like a jazz.
13. I made this a few months ago, but im not happy about the weight distribution of it. I figure i may as well see if anyone wants it. Its made from yellow pine, with sapele wings. When it was first finished, it looked amazing, but something went wrong with the finish, so it went cloudy. There is also a small gap where the wings were joined on the back, as well as a medium chip. If it were properly finished in a solid coat, it would look awesome. The pickup routes are a bit rough, but a scratchplate would cover it nicely. I was going to make one, but never got round to it. I have the material to make one if anyone is interested. The back of the bass has 6 ferrules for neck attachment, and is routed for a precision type neck, with a little adjustment wheel instead of allan key. This is the body: Closeup of the pickup routes. Closeup of the neck pocket Back of the neck pocket, with the ferrules The control cavity, routed for active controls and phase switching for each pickup, inc battery route And with the covers in place I am open to offers as well as trades for pretty much anything. And if anyone is interested in the neck, £25 O.N.O, and trades. It used to be a fender shape, but i glued on wings and veneers. The is some filler visible, but a solid cover would hide this. it could also do with a refret as my attempt isnt very good. Its also not bound , its just paint under the finish, there are no markers at all on it, side or front facing.
14. I have a vintage jazz style with wilkinson pickups. sounds amazing. got it for £110 used. Used to be played in a theatrical show about queen (the band)
15.
From your term "tools", I take it you mean there's a little more to it than just drilling out the holes?
I did just mean a drill. But instead of a spade bit which i used, there are tapered drill bits which i would probably use if i wanted it perfect. However, im sure a normal drill bit and a bench drill would be alright.
16. i pick up little things here and there from songs i learn, but probably just listen and see which notes sound good when played.
17. I dont believe so. The ones in there are of a smaller diameter that the open back ones. I bought open back tuners to go on my squier affinity p bass, and i had to enlarge the holes for them. But there are tools to do that easily if you are worried.
18. Ive got this same one. Its the equivalent of a "slap switch". It doesn't have any adjustable controls, just off or on. Sounds awesome.
19. Does anyone have one of these ie, stingray style, battery covers, or knows of where to get one. Im currently turning a passive one into active, and so need somewhere for a battery, and i prefer this cover to the flip top ones.
