1. Bump. Possibly sold but I'd like a bit more interest just in case it falls through. I'm hopefully due to collect the bass this coming week. I'm going to be working on a ship for the summer, so I'd like to sell this before I go. Trades also for white Stingrays with rosewood boards, 4 or 5 string.
2. If you want the black one I took off mine, you can have it . Just send me a stamped return envelope. Let me know and I'll PM you my address. I just think the tortie looks cool against the off white.
3.
You mean like this beauty that we were all fawning over last month?
Ha, that's mine and it now looks like this. I didn't like the black pickguard, the tortoiseshell looks a million times better.
4. It's not that big a deal really. I had a new one fitted to a Warwick bass recently. John Diggins did it for me, it cost about £100.
5.
You're saying you know nothing about Fender basses and yet your gear list states you have four?
Yeah but mine are all new, or newish. And are all Japanese reissues except for the 5 string. I want the real thing that they're copies of. I really know nothing about the vintage instruments. I played a real vintage one a few years ago. I think it was a '60's jazz, it was owned by Birdie who's a member on here. It just had something that mine don't have, the sound and 'feel' of it.
6. I'm very keen on buying a '76 Fender Jazz bass. It has to be in Olympic white with a maple board with binding and block inlays. The pproblem is that I know nothing about Fender basses, and I'm worried that it'd be very easyy to buy something that wasn't what it was supposed to be, or pay too much. So my question is, what's the safest way to go about buying ?

8. I know he used to use a Fodera fretless, but I think he's now using a Fender Jazz fretless. At least there appears to be a Fender jazz fretless in the photos on the new Monte Carlo album. I think it's down to him personally. A lot of the 'fretless sound' is in the player, vibrato and touch etc.
9. Tab's a total waste of time. If you know the notes on the fretboard then use that knowledge together with the guitar chords to work the bass line out.
10. My Wal Mach 1 fretted bass will soon be for sale. It's currently at the Wal workshop being serviced and spruced up . I get it back in a couple of weeks time. It's a 1987 bass with Yew facings and rosewood board etc. The gold hardware is a bit tatty, but the bass itself is in pretty much as new condition. The only photos that I have are attached. The actual bass is a bit lighter in colour than the photo of the front shows, the colour of the rear of the bass is a more accurate representation. It comes with a grey Wal hardcase. For sale at £2300 ono. I'm not prepared to ship this bass, so it's personal collection from Birmingham only, or I can travel to you. The only trades would be either an Olympic white Sei or Sadowsky 5 string jazz with a rosewood board, blocks and bound fingerboard, an Olympic White 4 string 70's Fender jazz bass with a maple or rosewood board, with blocks and neck binding. Or a Musicman Stingray 4 or 5 string in white or sunburst, a white bass must have a rosewood board and the sunburst must have a maple board. Fussy old devil aren't I . Thanks !
11.
Is it still the excellent Glenn Worf on bass?
I think so, he played on the most recent album anyway.
12. Like this one. http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/33...nstrument_cable £25 including postage.
13. I've never racked it, so these are perfect. £12.50 including postage.
14. As new. I just had my Marcus Miller strap arrive, so I don't need this anymore. http://druwhitefeather.com/default_files/order.htm £20 including postage.
15. Jaco Mark King Stanley Clarke Marcus Miller Matt Garrison
16. Learn the notes on the fretboard (that IS a simple thing to do). Then ask what chords they're playing (supposing they know), and play the root note of that chord ie. A major just play an 'A' etc. Have lessons, please ! It'll save you loads of messing about in future and will make the learning process a whole lot easier and more fun.
17. Check this out to see what I mean about Michael Manring http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMPK1bRkEQA...feature=related Much better idea.
18. I play for 4 bands and do dep gigs too. You just need a diary and to know when to say no.
19. Yeah I hate flats too, I can never understand why people use them on jazz basses. My sound is bright rounds, I like nickels so they're not too bright, but it really depends on the gig. I'm doing a lot of gigs with a country band at the moment. My main bass is my US deluxe 5 string jazz. So I tend to have the tone control turned right off, and use both pickups on full, I leave the active preamp set flat. They do a mix of traditional and more modern country. For the more modern stuff I have more bridge pickup dialed in. I played at a country music festival in north Yorkshire last night, and had compliments on my sound from the great engineer. My jazz gigs I use a fretless jazz bass strung with Rotosounds for the 'Jaco' sound .
20. I saw Michael Manring using two normal guitar straps last year, one normal size and one long one. He had a strap over each shoulder, the long one obviously over the right shoulder. That'd work the same. I had a similar problem with the comfort strapp. They're too flexible and sink into the bit between your neck and shoulder bone, essentially cutting or restricting the blood supply to your arm. I now use either a very wide leather strap or a Mono strap, which is tons better than the comfort strapp.
21. Martin Taylor has done some great stuff. He's got a new album out too, to celebrate what would have been Django Reinhards 100th birthday. I heard some tracks recently, it's very good ! He has some dates at Pizza Express next month, my friend is playing bass.
22.
Im a huge MIJ fan, both my main basses are Jap Fenders, a 19902 MIJ '62 and an '07 CIJ '75 ri ive had sooo many basses now and these two are just perfect for me! and the white one, wa sindeed from ishibashi just before the ban!
That white one looks very, very smart. I love the blocks and binding against the maple board. In fact I love the whole bass !
