2. Nice bass, I may be joining this elite little club pretty soon .
 3. I'm selling a DVD by Todd Johnson if you're interested. He (I think), started the technique. He's certainly a master of it anyway. I had the privilege os studying with him for a couple of days last year. The technique is especially useful if you play 5 string and 6 string basses. It really cuts down on unwanted string noise, strings that you're not playing 'ringing'. It's a more sensible way of playing. Playing while pivoting your thumb on the B string and stretching down to play the G and C strings, that's a hell of a stretch, and you're not in proper control of what you're doing. I use a mix of 'floating thumb' and resting my thumb on the string above the one I'm playing. So my right hand moves down the strings as I play. Check the Todd Johnson section on talkbass, there are loads of links to Youtube videos on there, showing him demonstrating the technique.

 7.
The last time I tried to audition a female singer the guitarist's psycho girlfriend told him he wasn't allowed to play in a band with a woman in it. I've heard a very similar story a number of times since too.
I've had a similar experience too many years ago. I don't drink either, but I've been in bands where people do, and it does affect their performance.
 8.
Fine! Nobody noticed me hashing my way through Mustang Sally Need to learn it properly now. It's all quite a difference from what I'm used to. Musicians who don't seem to be alcoholics and a real girl doing the singing (and very well too). I think this has some promise. No email telling me to f*** off yet either
A real girl....had you used to play in Rocky horror show band ?

 11. The distance form the nut to the bridge is an inch longer, so all the frets will be slighter further apart. Not too big a deal really, probably more noticeable on a fretless.
 12. It's a sign of the times I guess. People want stuff and fire off a PM, then sit and think and realise that theu can't actually afford it. I'm selling my Sei 6 string in the 'for sale section''. I've had someone offer me a bass that I sold them 6 months ago plus cash coming to a total of half the value of my bass. I think you just have to accept that selling nowadays is sometimes a long process.

 14. You need to be very, very versatile. Being able to read can be quite useful. Time is money, that's something I was told ages ago. You need to be able to get the job done with the minimum of fuss. Having the ability to play a couple of different instruments is useful too, BG and DB for instance.
