Chris Squires telecaster bass?
doctor_of_the_bass replied to beerdragon's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Ah but he didn't sell it, it was stolen from him and he wants it back. He talks about it on the commentary he did for the re-release of his solo album Fish Out of Water. The RickResource forum have been discussing the apparent re-emergence of the bass. "Original" is probably a bad choice of words, he's the only member who's been in all the incarnations over the years. Yes are still active and were even due to tour this year for their 40th anniversary but had to cancel when Jon Anderson fell ill. Almost the classic lineup but with (IIRC) Adam Wakeman on keys instead of Rick. Chris also records with and often plays live with a Lakland JB, a P, an 8-string Ranney and a short scale Electra plus a few others including a couple of Mike Tobias basses, a 5-er and an extended scale 4. I know what you mean about seeing him with Rick's mostly but he's used various basses on recordings pretty much since day 1. He just sounds like him no matter what he plays. Steve.
The Electra MPC bass guitar is a long scale instrument...! Sorry! He also still uses the famous green `Mouradian CS-74' and has also been seen with a metallic blue `Reality' bass, from the same company, `M Guitars' from Cambridge, Mass. Cheers! Nick -
Allo! Moo - was that the `Italian' bass? Very tasty! I'd get a dummy hum canceller stuck on there - instant `Series II'!!

Can anybody tell me anything about my old Tokai bass?
doctor_of_the_bass replied to ironside1966's topic in Bass Guitars
Looking at the specs on the advert, it appears that there are seperate bass and treble controls - this would suggest an active EQ - does your bass have these controls? I know it sounds obvious, but if you take the control cover off there will be a battery under there should this be the case! (I know many basses do not have a seperate battery compartment) -
nope - the bass was here in Peterborough! (thats a city 30 miles north of Cambridge in case you're not sure!)

Mark! Funnily enough I might be up your way very soon!!! Don't forget, me Grandad was born in Perkinsville, so technically, I'm part-Geordie! Howay the lads!

Too much gear son, far too much! Technically, I've got 57 basses, (soon to be 55 as two are being sold), and 13 guitars, 3 practice amps, two bass combos, a head and two cabs, two sets of bass pedals (keyboard synths) etc etc etc -

..hey, we could have a bass commune.... "..living in the country on a bag of rice" - anyone remember that tune from BA Robertson - my mate Alan Jones played bass on it! Of course, everyone would be equal....then again, some would be more equal than others!!! -

Hehe! If you need a crane Rich, get in touch with my Dad - he owns this company: http://www.peterboroughcranehire.co.uk I'm very proud of him - and he's a guitar player (my reason for getting into music) - he's got the biggest erections in town! (the 300 tonne crane!). N -
Peavey Cirrus 6 bass made in the USA
doctor_of_the_bass replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in Bass Guitars
Have you ever played a high-end Peavey bass then Kev??? -
Hmmm...not bad!!!!! In fact, I nearly had a similar red Streamer back in '92, some other bastard bought it (beating me to it!) from the shop where I used to work at weekends - was really upset as I recall - it had a finish like glass and tons of balls!! The ones that get away eh?!

Oooo! Tres bon! Did you see my Series II with the streaked Maccassar ebony board earlier in this thread!? Same facings as this one! -
pm'ed!

Cheers Kev! Really enjoyed today - real pleasure meeting you and I'm sure we can get something sorted re: the Colchester area!!! Crez - I'm now in love with the most lovely Overwater - Kev - do not let me play your bass ever again!! Did not get to the factory due to leaving Peterborough at a later time! I will be in the area soon and so will try and get to see Rob! Nick

Mark King mentioned that he used to use the fleshy area of the thumb to achieve a `softer' tone as opposed to the knuckle joint! Without seeing you play (in terms of angles) its hard to pass comment - hows about moving your arm outwards from the bass in order to start using your knuckle again?

Help me get my enthusiasm back
doctor_of_the_bass replied to Oscar South's topic in General Discussion
Strongbow often does it for me!!! Lots of good comments thus far - some days I wake up and feel like giving all my basses away (!) and then, 24 hours later, my mood and feelings have been refreshed by a trip to the beautiful north Norfolk coast etc. Be part of nature, let the energy of the cosmos fill your soul! I sometimes play stuff that seems to arrive in my head from elsewhere - my body becomes a conduit for this expression (and yet at a fully conscious level, I am the worst jazz player in christendom!) - if you meditate and relax, you can find new energy and refreshment! Step outside of you and realise that all energy exists in you - you are the universe! I'm not mad, honest! Where's me tinny! Nick -
A small but perfectly formed collective!!! Fantastic stuff Moo - didn't realise you'd got an Alembic! I've got two of course!!! Hehehe! Nick

Definitely a trade only show but as noted, if you can get a contact who can get you in then you might be able to! Frankfurt is the same!

Hi Fosk! No, its not me! I'm going to speak to three bassists (guys who are friends of mine) who are in their own way, very important in the overall history of the instrument. The whole thing is very much at the initial idea stage but it could well develop into a fairly big bash!
-
Just to add - a very good friend of mine has two Custom shop instruments, a Jaco model and a lake placid blue 60's Jazz re-issue. Quite simply two of the finest basses I've ever played - espec. the Pastorius - it sings! Like many people, I was slightly unsure of the `relic' concept but when you actually pick one up and play it, it really does make sense!
-
...stay tuned Fen folk and midlanders - there's gonna be a show early next year - DOTB Events are currently planning a `Peterborough Bass Event' and everyone is welcome. There may be a couple of star guests there too! Will keep everyone informed etc. Nick

Moo! That Series II to the right of your red Series II looks like Jon Randle's (Doctor and The Medics) old bass - i thought that he'd sold it to Andre??? Again, a stunning display of Status basses! (not envious in any way shape or form!) Nick (nice to see me old red one thar!) -
