1. Comfort Strapp? Short? New? £22.50 Posted? I'm in. Will PM you. Eude
2.
Back when I bought my DB212s x 2 in 8 ohms, then sold them to get a DB212 in 4 ohms, they were all just imported by the stores. At that time, it was the Bass Merchant. I think 2009/10? Anyway, Aguilar slowly became more popular, and rightly so, but as soon as a middleman 'distributor' became involved, all the prices shot up, and have continued to. Now you can barely get a DB112 for the price I paid for the DB212! Insane. Funny that BM never had an issue with dealing with Aguilar directly for aftersales care! I got a new cab badge no problem for one of the older cabs and it cost £0.
I got my GS112 from Bass Merchant too, for less than half what they are retailing at now. For me, that means I just can' ever really justify buying anything new from Aguilar, which is really sad. I wonder what kind of effect the introduction of a distributor has had on their sales, and whether it's actually worth it in the long run... I'd like to go back to a 2 x 1x12 setup soon, and Aggie just aren't on the radar. Eude
3.
I'm pretty sure that the tweeter Aguilar use is the P-Audio PHT-410, available from Blue Aran for £19.
I'm not sure of the exact model we ended up with but including fitting by someone who knows what they are doing it came to under £70 I do miss that cab a bit though...
4.
£204. Are you kidding me?! Some 112 cabs cost that!
I shipped a GS112 and the tweeter was shattered by the courier through 'mishandling', the replacement part from Aggie was over £200, without shipping and taxes form the US! Ended up figuring something else out, but I was quite startled at the costs involved. Like you say, you can get a whole cab for that! Eude
5.
Ta dah!
Have to say, one of those in medium scale is making its way up my GAS list... Eude
6.
yeah that could be an explanation The logical conclusion is he didn't like the BF ones enough after all.
I think it's more likely that the super heavy Ampeg stuff is just more suited to touring, in fact its probably more suited to touring than most gear out there. The BF stuff is famed for their lightweight, which isn't usually something that goes well with nightly abuse from roadies. He's also used the Ampeg stuff a lot for a long long time, so I expect it's a known entity. I'm sure we'll see the BF stuff again. Eude
7.
I think this is the Wakrat rig, and the BF were used on Prophets of Rage... but I don't know why he'd use different cabs on each. I was surprised too. Has he gone back to Ampeg already?
I think the ruggedness of the Ampeg gear is why it's in the mix. As much as the Barefaced stuff likely sounds a lot better, there's not many cabs as well built as those old Ampeg units, and they are UNITS! Eude
8. And we're off...
9. Wow, that's pretty awesome and a nice result for Ashdown! Are the regular drivers just as good as these 700w albeit without the same power handling? Eude
10. This has also given me some pretty serious unexpected Musicman GAS too.
11.
Yeah, Sum of it's parts adding up to a whole lot less...
I agree to some extent, but I'd rather have them doing it than nothing at all, plus they have a pretty strong message behind it all too.
12.
Made all the other Tims out there almost cool
I do know one other Tim who is properly cool too, although he's called Timmy D. I see a pattern...
13. How does the 'amount' of sound compare to your MarkBass and Barefaced setup? As room filling, or a bit more middley/boxy sounding? Cheers, Eude
14. Yup, very nice to see a bass only rundown. Timmy C is one of my all time bass heroes, and I'n chuffed to see him back on Musicman basses, his tone on the early RATM stuff is just the best! I love his tone now too, very very different though. Eude
15.
he does talk about why/how he got back into stingray after years of Fender and then Lakland
Was it anything to do with 'Free Stuff'?
16. Have to say these cabs intrigue me massively too! I've been told the 1x10 version put out as much bass as the 1x12, but just doesn't go quite as loud, I guess worth trade off for some to have smaller and slightly lighter cab. Looking forward to hearing your review, but I'm going to have to get a shot of one of these soon... Eude
17.
yup eagerly waiting for the 'anger' review.
Me too, I hope it's quite furious!
18. Have to say I'm extremely interested in one of these. I'd like to see a bit more in the preamp, even just the addition of low mid and high mid, but I guess you can drive it with a preamp pedal like you do. Currently using two compact 1x10 cabs, I find I'm missing a bit of thick effortless low end, does the single 12" really kick out a nice bit of oomph? Looking forward to hear how you get on with it in anger! Eude
19. Yup, I've never tuned in anything but B to G. As it happens, I have had Dunlops too, which were fine length wise, although I found them a bit too floppy on the shorter scale, I imagine they're lovely on a regular bass though. Cheers, Ewan
20. Hmmm. Well if you're allowing 2 inches of string beyond the post, before bending and poking it in the tuner, you won't struggle with any of the brands I noted above dude. Eude
21. Oh, also, medium scale strings wo't necessarily work, as 33" is longer than what's considered medium by the bass industry, which is 32". Seriously, I've never had an issue with long scale strings on a 33" bass. Eude
22. Wow, those must be some super-long strings! Are you leaving 2 inches of string after the post, before you bend it to create the bit to poke into the tuner? I've never ever come across this in nearly 10 years of playing 33" basses! If this is a brand specific problem, here's the strings I've used over those years with no issues whatsoever >> Rotosound D'Addario DR Picato Elixir Fender Newtone (non custom length ones) Cheers, Eude
23. I've been playing 33" basses for a long ol' time now and I've not really run into problems with any strings manufacturer I've tried. The only issue you can get is the taper starting a bit late, which can look a bit odd, but shouldn't effect how the string plays or sounds as that's determined by the bridge and nut. As mentioned above, Newtone will wind you custom strings in any length and gauge. All they'll need is the measurement from where the string anchors on your bass at the bridge to the nut. They do make lovely strings too Eude
24.
Rather than one continuously variable tone pot, it is a five-way selector with presets for the tone. I believe there is an individual capacitor for each setting. It basically just makes the tone control more useable rather it being on, off or somewhere in middle. Hope that helps
Perfect, thanks mate! Sounds like a pretty useful setup, and without batteries! Eude
25. Lovely bass mate, congratulations! Can you give us more info on the THD circuit?... Cheers, Eude
