I believe the next batch of RM cabs have had an upgrade, which will be present in the new combo and new kit going forward, not sure about the OriginAL heads though, but it kind of muddies the water however as they look the same, I expect any good deals coming out of the big retailers will likely be old stock. They seem to nip and tuck as they go along in batches of production, I'd always advocate buying direct and talking to the guys at Ashdown which would make sure you're getting the best kit, they're really friendly and helpful too. The combo has one edge over the separates, and that's the ability to lean the cabs back from monitoring purposes. I guess it's not going to be a deal breaker for everyone, but I would certainly found it useful, or certainly would've when I gigged loads pre kids... Eude

No bother dude, sorry if I came across spikey, certainly wasn't my intention Eude

I believe the tops are treated with acrylic resin, and in the case of the fancy coloured ones, dyes are added to the resin.
-
ACG have been using Acrylic Impregnated woods pretty much since Alan started may moons ago, and his fancy ART tops with the dyed wood go back a long way too, way before anyone else. Have noticed a fair few folks doing similar these days though, including Alpher. Eude EDIT: I see Skelf already responded.

Like you wouldn't imagine, I expect you'd be looking at around £4000 for a bolt on 4 string Thumb Shortie. Personally, I'd speak to one of our extremely talented more local builders to see what they could do for you. The recipe for the Thumb sound is no secret any one can buy Bubinga, Wenge and MEC electronics... Personally, I'd speak to Alan at ACG, he won't build you a short scale Thumb, but he'll build you something way better Eude

They'll make you anything you want, at a price in their custom shop... They have definitely made at least one short scale custom 4 Thumb BO that I know of, but literally, they will pretty much consider making anything these days, a lottery win would probably help. Eude

Fretless flat fingerboard - no radius = any insights?

Sounds great mate! Alan had mentioned there might be a Kompakt bass model on the cards. Great specs too, can't wait to see it develop! Don't worry about the neck carve, every single one that I've played has been very comfortable. It really makes sense on a 6 string bass too, as it helps you get your technique right, especially when combined with the flat board. Eude -
That sounds really good then! Eude

Good to hear that, one of the biggest issues with smaller combos is the lack of real depth, they can tend to get a bit boxy with poky mids. This combo is also on my watch out list now too... Eude

Thanks for the info, I REALLY like it as a shape, very cool. Eude

I've been playing ACGs for many years now, and have always had a flat board as standard. It didn't feel all that different to start off with and now feels completely normal to me. The only little thing, which is more likely a quirk of my technique is that strumming double stops on the higher strings takes a little getting used to as it doesn't feel quite as natural, but it's only really something I did in my youth and mainly on 4 strings. I have a fretless 6er from Alan and it's unbelievably good! What spec are you going for? Eude -
Absolutely amazing work so far! I too have just realised that I probably need at least an 8 string in my life now... Can I ask what shape the gold bass is on the right in this pic? I can't seem to find it on your site. Cheers, Eude

Nice one mate. I've been back to look at it several times so far, it's one of the nicest Foderas I've seen, great spec too. I'll bet you can't wait! Eude

Wow, that is lovely! What's hickory like as a top, is it super hard like ebony? Eude

LOVE this one!

Wow! £14,000!

@binky_bass - you were looking at getting a custom Warwick Thumb made up a while back, did anything come of it? I've always dreamed of a 6 string Dolphin, and more recently a 32" scale one. They're now basically making anything you want, but obviously at a cost! Another one for the bass bucket list I guess...

Binky is incredible! Eude

I've been lucky enough to play that VERY bass a few years ago. It's the only proper ERB I've played, played beyond my 6ers, and the 7 string Sei also owned by the original owner and it was simply divine! Not too heavy, not too daunting, and after a bit of time not even that difficult to play. I have a bass specced up similar on my bucket list, should I ever win the lottery... Eude

Here's my 3. I was trying to get a nice shot of them, but my son decided he had a better arrangement for them... All ACGs, all 6 strings, all 31.5" scale. Left to right: Salace SC E Type Headless, Finn SC Classic, Krell SC E Type Headless Fretless It's not really a secret that I'm a massive fan of Alan's work, and I am one happy/lucky bunny to have such amazing instruments at my disposable. I can't believe you got away with this picture without any further questions! Firstly, its bloody gorgeous! Secondly, let's hear the specs mate, woods, electronics, scale etcs. Finally, some sound samples or even video would be awesome. Congratulations on a very sexy bass 😎 Eude

Newtone should be able to wind you a custom set with thinner cores to have lower tension. I get strings wound for my 31.5" basses in lighter gauges to have the tension of regular strings on a regular scale bass and they absolutely nail it. I'm positive they can help you achieve the opposite. They're made here in the UK, and are extremely reasonably priced too. Give them a shout, I expect you won't be disappointed 😎 Eude

Yup, completely flat, 0° radius. Works really well with the asymmetrical neck profile, which is also standard. I've been playing flat boards for some time now and they feel brilliant! Eude

I think the damage will be done for some now. We're not at barge pole yet, but it could get close sadly...
