1. someone was after a white MM a few days ago...
2. a fender jazz bass and a streamer $$ get put in a blender... and viola! does it let you tap the coils for a more trad jazz sound?
3. Good questions being asked there - you know I was looking at it earlier today and seeing 3 clear favourites and wondering if some kind of second transferable vote thing would be a good idea.... or just the fella whos building the bass to pick his fave out of the top 2/3 or something. As for listening to the whole song.... on quite a few I didn't - I don't personally have a problem of skipping the last 30s of a track I don't like much - sorry. I worked on the basis that I loved one of the entries I had heard (Silddx ironically) and listened to the rest to see if anyone came close. 2-3 other entries did for me- a lot of the rest I could tell after 16 bars that I prefered silddx's so forgive me if I skip the last 30 seconds! Not that the music was bad - just that there was some entries that were pretty genius
4. Who loves JV squiers? Seem to be a lot up for sale at the moment... and cos I've had didley squat interest in mine (mind you I've not been trying hard) I though - for the love of everything JV squier we would have a wee market placeness..... First up... Gareth's lovely looking 62ri Precision - 3 tone sunburst and a tort guard. JV3xxxx serial looks mega. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/192909-jv-squire-precision-all-original/ Then... Gareth's even nicer looking matching 62ri Jazz bass - again JV3xxxx serial and agian in cracking condition... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/192362-jv-squire-jazz-sunburst-all-original/page__p__1874916__hl__squier%20jv__fromsearch__1#entry1874916 (and if you don't like sunburst, have a hunt in his previous posts too...) Talking of matching pairs... Rick has his amazing pair of Jazz and P bass - a bit like Gareths pair except these are first editions (like mine, and like mine he's not bumped it for a while) both in great condition. And... oh I thought there was a few more on the boards that had been up for sale recently, maybe not!
5. spend hundreds on something that won't increase the price by as much as you'll have spent? doesn't make sense to me. Mind you I love well played looking basses
6.
The Strat looks like a Birdseye maple body, not much figuring to it though, just the burrs.
google image search for this and see what it turns up?
7. AND it seems to be just a marketplace - the basses seem to be coming from GAK
8. whats the difference between tescos and thomann?
9. I used to use the Ashdown mini cabs (both of them) as the house rig at church for years. Er... go for them if you want but... IMO they arn't very good, and not very light - but are compact. I used to turn up when I could be bothered with a dinky little techsoundsystem 2x12, which was about the width of your amp and only 12 inches high and it could blow both of the ashdown cabs away for clarity and distribution around the room. As a reference- I sold that cab for £150.
10. - depends what kinda lacquer it is. If it's poly - hard. prob easier to change your playing technique!
11. So you have some basses.... and the dialema is get rid of the one that would be about £6-700 secondhand or the one that would be about £475-600 secondhand? Depending on condition the difference in price won't be as much as you think. so I think you're asking the wrong question- I don't think it's about value at all..... say you're not going to play that much at the moment, just little bits (and maybe a bit more later in life, who knows) which bass of the 3 makes you want to pick it up and play it the most?
12.
Lose the EMGs.
+1
13. if it's a keeper.... do what you want to it!
14. a keyboard synth?

Relic J5

sounds great- really great...but, really really reliced? why?
16. voted... I won't say who for (though it may tell you) but it pushed a really nice entry from Stephen Houghton down to second place in my estimation
17. my old band the guitarist used to use this big old heavy fender amp, right pain in the arse to move around - always mic'ed up of course cos that the best way to do it for the larger venues we used to play. One day we were helping a headline band we got on with with their load in, similar sound - we'ld heard them and they had a similar set of guitar sounds going on as us. Well I reach into the van and pull out their fender blues jr amp thing, hold it with one arm and the guitarist and me look at each other and he goes "bugger, when I was 15 I thought a big amp would be cooler"
18.
Board oiled, I left it for 20 minutes or so to dry and grabbed a coffee.....
what brand coffee do you use for your rebuilds?
19. there are folk who buy and sell their gear more than I do, so something becomes fashionable then folk will buy it - a few years back everyone wanted Lakland, then Sadowsky and so on... give it a couple of years and maybe they are looking for something different and put it up for sale. Thing is all it takes is one person to do it and there is a price point that people can work around so people are more likely to list. Thats what I think anyway. I mean at the moment, even with my half withdrawn ad there are abotu 6 or so JV squiers on offer. A while back there were none (mind you none have sold yet!)
20.
and i have my eye on something a little more common.
oooh a nice P bass MB1, is it, is it, oh yes sir, suits you sir
21. can i get one with a swamp ash body for the slightly scooped mid tones?
22.
Aah, interesting. Yea, the less people i have to rely on the better and I do enjoy those pickup winding days (today) in a dust free zone with some cool tunes. Bliss. So that's 3 generations of Armstrongs making guitar stuff! Awesome! I hope I can get my kids interested eventually. Is 6 too early for sanding duties?
dunno, depends on what it's sanding and dust masks... maybe buffing a finish would be more appropiate. "no dinner till you can see your face in it" ....
23.
Subjective. I like it. Plus we need more instruments that don't keep regurgitating the designs of the 50s.
agreed, but I don't think it balances with itself the back half it too curvy or the front half is too pointy, I would go more pointy - I would move the apex of the bottom rear curve back a bit and make the angle sharper
24.
Nah it's not connected, thankfully!! Cheers
Ped, et al question.... the old sales forums had some nice terms and condition which you had to abide by - where are they on the new one? Reason I ask is there currently is an item up with a price of £0.00 and asking for offers. Naturally I offered him the £0.00 he had stated but wondered what the rules were in the new sales forum - has it changed at all?
25. Build a stingray preamp clone in the OLP - you'll unlock a load of different tones and find a reason to have more than one. Also they (should) sit in different places in the mix. I used to pickup whatever of my 2 basses fitted better in the mix.
