Wil - thanks for posting that. Unfortunately, being the obsessive fan I am, they had a different bassist in for that session, and I believe it's a Precision used on that video. The bass in question is used on the album version of Pink Triangle, but not the single version. I made a parts bass last year of this guy's backup bass, but I finally found some of the pickups he uses (took me a couple of years, but I found them eventually) so was thinking of making a 'replica' of this bass...hence the fretboard question. I'm normally not that anal about things, but it would seem there is a lot of debate about the differences between rosewood and ebony as a fretboard wood. I'm in two minds about the state of the bass...half of me thinks 'give it a clean', half of me thinks it's a true road warrior! If I were to make a replica of the bass, I probably wouldn't get it 'reliced', I'd just have it as new and let myself get some true wear into it. Thanks for all the suggestions so far, very much appreciated.

Delbert - it is indeed a Warmoth neck. I looked in the Warmoth showcase and all Brazilian and Indian Rosewood boards are very brown, or have a lot of brown streaks. I'm trying to find a decent picture of the bass outside - problem is that any stage lights might be affecting the colour. Tait - Haha, yep he's the original. They've had 3 bassists now so a google search probably brought up the latest one.

Pictures are the best available online I'm afraid. The bass belongs to the original bassist from Weezer if anyone cares.

Interesting... The lack of grain in the black and white picture was what made me think ebony. Thnaks for all suggestions so far, appreciate it.

Hi team, I'm in need of assistance. Trying to figure out what kind of wood is used for this fretboard. Talkbass and Unofficial Warmoth have both given me either Rosewood or Ebony, so now it's Basschat's turn. My opinion...Ebony. Go!

Thanks folks. I did consider the MIM 70's reissue thing, but if I'm honest, I guess there is something about owning a 'vintage' bit of kit. I also agree that buying a 70's jazz just to rip it apart and flog the rest of it doesn't really seem kosher. This has given me some food for thought though...cheers. The search continues...

I was wanting to make a bit of a frankenstein based on the Weezer bassists' bass, which hyad a black 70's body. I have pickups and other bits, but not the neck just yet. The one on ebay looks ideal, but as I said, slightly more than I'd like to pay. I checked out Warmoth and by the time I've got the 70's spacing and the finish, and shipping and customs, it's getting quite expensive. The guy on ebay has 'best offer' available, might shoot him £100 and hope for the best!

There's one on Ebay that took my fancy as I'm looking for a 'well-worn' body with 70's spacing. I'm not really keen on 'relicing' a new body. The body has a BIN of 595 which is....slightly more than I'm looking to spend, so just seeing what the consensus is. Thanks again for suggestions so far.

Thanks Dr and Luke. I didn't consider pickup routes actually, so thanks. I've heard Fender standards slipped in the 70's but I would have thought bodies and necks would have fit together reasonable well!

Hi all, I'm looking at hopefully picking up a Jazz body from the 70's at some point soon. Can anyone give me a guide price to how much you would pay? Anything I should look out for? Weight, refinish...do these things affect its value if it's just a body and not a whole bass? Cheers in advance

Bass Doc - any chance you could post a picture of what your tortoiseshell looks like? I may be needing a pickguard soon myself, and some tort can look really great, and others can look a bit dodgy. Much appreciated.

Oh yes, I agree. In both fame and skill! If I was after an Orange Matamp 200 though, I wouldn't really be bothered who had previously owned it. Or I'd just get a Matamp GT200.

It's comparatively cheap considering Jimmy Pages' went for $30,000. I heard a few weeks back that he was putting some things up for sale...guess the Weezer money is getting thin.

Hi chums, Surprised I can't find much online about this, but I'm looking to see what type of wood was used for Jazzes in the 1960's when it was a solid colour. I'm thinking it's either Alder (quite likely) or Ash, but I believe Ash was for bursts and blonde basses. Ta

I thought I'd bump this as I've just picked the amp up from Promenade Music in Morecambe. It was the Orange at fault...dodgy resistor apparently. All is well now though...God, I've missed it! Cheers for all the suggestions.

Half of the fun of Warmoth is searching the site and the showcase looking for cool bits. Yes, they are more expensive now due to the exchange rate, but I'd still go with them over other 'parts' companies. Good luck in your quest!
