1. Hah! that made me chuckle how else do you spend your evenings? A bit a cheese always goes down good with a cup of tea! Dan
2. To begin with there I thought you'd mistaken your instruments! =D Dan
3. I'm in the process of learning Victor Wootens arrangement of Amazing grace and have learnt most of it successfully apart from the harmonic chord section in the middle. Its here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjkFJkbm3vA from 40 seconds in. Just wondering if you guys had any tips or tricks for these because I'm getting increasingly frustrated! To hit the harmonics correctly I keep pulling off the root note -.- Thanks Dan
4. I once met a guy with a 2002 Am Jazz and he'd put Pbass pick up smack bang inbetween the two jazz ones. Sound amazing. looked horrible =L Dan
5. Thanks for the comment, I'm glad other people like it as much as I do! I disagree with it not being a gigging amp though because I've used it comfortably at small venues as a 5 piece so I guess its how you want to sit in the mix really =D
6. Up for trade is my "little" Peavey Max 115 combo. Great rehearsal/small gig amp which I've owned from new for around a year now. Got a really nice grunt too it but is sitting unused next to my Ampeg so its got to go! I'm mainly interested in 2x10 cabs (like an Ashdown) but I could be persuaded by a Fender rack tuner or a 4u rack head some cash my way. Feel free to make me an offer with what ever you want! I'm based half an hour from Norwich =) Dan Edit: Pictures when I next go to my guitarists but might not be a week cus he's away. Edit: For sale price of £100 how does that sound =D
7. Im year 12 at the moment and looking too. My favourite so far is goldsmiths because its small but not too small (8K students), well placed even it is expensive (Cheaper part of london), doesnt need the best grades just ABB. Dan EDIT: Was thinking about RCM not LCM
8. Have a bump cus I love mine =L
9. In my personal experience its because my first bass was a crappy squire jazz. Now anything with out a jazz neck to me feels so alien so why change my playing style to suit another bass when one feels so right! =) Dan
10. Really good to guy to deal with =) have a bump!
11. I was in exactly the same situation and tried all three and i suggest you do the same. Personally I found the Ampeg the best because of the EQ options. =)
12.
Can't believe you recorded The Chicken with the Soul Intro!! heresy! Nice work though! Si
Think this is the Weckl version judging by the drum intro and the run so no soul is needed =D
13. Kontact really is brilliant. It will open up so many more possibilities for backing tracks too. The slower tempo does give a great feel though so doesnt really matter. The way to go with all PC equipment is too find a nice student and buy it in there name =L I got Kontakt for around £180 I think Dan
14. Nice performance of possibly my fav song ever. I think you should increase the tempo but thats just personal preference. In terms of a better plug in have you tried Kontact? =) Dan
15. What band are you playing with? Dare say I may have seen you as I seem to live in the Brickmakers at the moment! =L
16. Perfect! Thanks ever so much for the quick reply and useful info =) Dan
17. I've finally got round to leaving my beloved Trace Combo behind and decided to get something a lil bit more powerful. Long story short I got a good deal on an Ampeg B2-RE head and im now running it through a crappy old Peavy speaker which needs to be updated but I dont have a clue about ohms! The B2RE is 250 at 8 and 450 at 4 so do i just get a cab that is 8ohms at 250 or could i get one thats 300 at 8 like most are and not have trouble? Sorry I realise this has probably been asked thousands of times Thanks Dan =)
18.
Spare volume is all well and good, but I guarantee that a guitarist is like Bad Spidey, give him great power and he will ignore the responsibility that goes with it....
Fair point well made =L
19.
Errr, I was referring to the aforementioned Marshal 4x12 guitarist's half stack. This is a device known for causing large scale damage to the hearing of anyone unlucky enough to be within 20 yards. It is definitely overkill for a pub, though not for a large stage in a very big venue, where you will find them being used to look good, rather than sound great. Not talking about bass rigs, where you need to move a lot more air (again with the fletcher munsen curves). A half stack bass rig will need A 112 50watt guitar combo will actually do perfectly well in even a large pub, I've had the pleasure of working in a band that used a Cornford 12 watt 112 combo and those are easily loud enough for a blues band in a pub. Better yet if you need more guitar you can mic it and put a bit in the FOH, the guitarist will still hear himself and you actually have some control over the FOH sound.
I still think spare volume is needed. Its not the amps problem, its the guitarist using it =L
20. Massive difference between which area your playing too. Around Norwich were gettin £250 ish. Ipswich down too £200.
21.
A half stack is total overkill for a pub gig, even a 212 is a lot more than really required, and will suffer from beaming and phase cancellation.
I completely disagree. Spare Volume is a MUST have for me even in the smallest venue. Never know when you may need to fiddle! =L
