2.
For me it would be Friday on London. Trouble is, the Haggis Horns have a gig on the same date and I'm going to find that hard to resist
A tough choice indeed - I love the Haggis Horns too.
3. Very excited, going to see Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings on Wednesday with Mrs RR for our anniversary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0iGhFwZx6c
4. *Post-disaster update post* Bridge pickups are for pussies anyway What a disappointment! Well, at least it's being replaced without argument. It would have been worse if it had turned up damaged and no-one wanted to take responsibility. Soon, you will have your fully-functioning beauty.
5. Janelle Monáe is a real talent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwnefUaKCbc&ob=av2e
6. Anyone mentioned Ron Carter yet?
7. Got mine today - pretty good quality

9. I've asked this question before on this thread, but made a hash of it, so I'll try again: I have query directed towards those who believe that the type of wood makes a difference to tone: They say that the denser the wood, the brighter the tone - makes sense to me. People tend to say that a maple board is brighter sounding than a rosewood one, even though I'm quite certain that maple is softer/less dense than rosewood. Why is this?
10. I reckon a Ray Brown book would be a great read; his career spanned different jazz eras from Duke Ellington to the bebop greats, so musically there's an interesting variety. Also the fact he was married to Ella F is bound to attract people's attention.
11. When I was using EA kit, Chris and Lawrence couldn't have been more helpful. When the handle split on the combo and they sent a couple of spares down immediately, free of charge.
12. The Lion's Roar, by First Aid Kit This is not my usual thing at all; americana/folk led by a couple of Swedish sisters. Fantastic voice and harmonies. Great album. edit: reading that back, I'd be surprised if anyone's usual thing was as niche as americana/folk led by a couple of Swedish sisters
13. Fixed New P cover from Thomanns and the J cover is on it's way to a BCer's Jazz
14.
There are lots of ATMs in the West End, which one do you mean?
15. Like that a lot
16. My last band required sequined flares.
17.
Is that not the one that was made from an old school desk? So it hasn't really been deliberately damaged...
The finish is called 'damaged desk', but I assumed that this was a finish that Ritter do in-house to simulate the effect. They offer it as an option on custom basses (at a hefty EUR700 odd) I've seen ones where naughts and crosses have been scored into the wood, or the impression from a screw being hammered/pressed in sideways.
18. This is the only deliberately damaged bass I like:
19. Hah. I bought it with the bridge cover on and saw no reason to take it off. Then when I refinished it last year, I thought I'd go the whole hog as I love the retro look. I'm exclusively playing reggae now, so I only pick near the neck. I also find it's good to rest the palm and pluck with the fleshy part of the thumb for super fat tones. After further research, I'm 100% sure mine is a J cover, so It's sold and a P one is on its way. Thanks for your help all.
20. Those are good pics for the purposes of camparison, thanks. You can see the one in my sig, definitely a J cover. If anyone's interested, the width is 50mm across the widest (middle) point.
21. I bought a chrome pickup cover for my Precision, but it turns out it's a Jazz one. Apparently the difference is that the edges are convex on the J but straight on the P. The P one is also wider than the J one. You can see it by clicking on the link in my sig. Anyone got a P one they want to trade with me? Otherwise you can have my J one for £6.50 posted to the UK. SOLD subject to the usual gubbins
22. Thanks - that makes sense. Mine definitely has the convex shape. I'll go to the marketplace and see if anyone fancies a swap.
23. I've been informed by a BCer that the pup cover on my Precision is actually a Jazz one. I bought it as a Precision one (from EBay), but maybe that's a lesson in itself. A quick look online brings up various images, but to be honest, I'm struggling to see the difference between P ones online and my one. Are the P ones wider to cover the wider pickup? If so, how wide is a proper P cover? Anyway, I was perfectly happy with it until this was pointed out, and now it will bug me, so I'd like a P one if mine is not the correct one. That's how shallow I am. Any help gratefully recieved.
24. JB cover? Arse - i had no idea. Last time I take an E Bay description at face value! I'll rectify asap Yes, TruBass 88's (65-115) Cheers immo
25. I refinished my 78 P last year in Capri Orange. Now with the proper black screws. Also, as I'm on a reggae tip, I've gone for RS black nylon tapewounds.
