I use all the gear in my sig when I play live, some is high end, some isn't Out of all the local gigs I've been to, I've seen one Genz Benz user, one Barefaced user, and a guy who has a Mesa/Ampeg setup. Most other players play Fender/Squire/Ibanez/ESP basses through Trace Elliot, Peavey, Ashdown, Behringer, or the odd Marshall amp

It's possible, you can get some pretty gnarly bass tones through guitar amps. I heard a Fender Precision through a Marshall guitar stack a few weeks ago and loved it! As opposed to nearly every guitar I've heard through a Marshall stack which sounds like pure donkey farts

Definately a decicated bass player to be asking that sort of question

Hitting the strings hard, and having low enough action to give a tiny bit of fret buzz will get you pretty close

Aggressive is one of those words that can mean different things to different people i guess. To me it means quick attack with lots of high mid/treble, and plenty of kick-you-in-the-chest

Welcome! Good to see another potential convert I used to play guitar myself, but had that familiar urge... 8 years later, I haven't looked back! Also, if you know what you're after, you can get some sick deals from the For Sale section here!

They're VERY good for the money. Quite clean but with a nice tuey warmth. They've got a kind of scoopy tone but a nice one. Perhaps someone who's had a bit more time with one can tell you more

More expensive stuff is usually better, but I used a Behringer DC9 for ages which only cost me £15! The only reason I got the Aguilar TLC (for £115 off here and it's the best comp money can buy in my opinion ), was because of the slight low end loss. It causes no problems for normal bass playing but it was noticeable on the low A string

I agree with the above. A clean tone with a quick attack will cut through really well. Any effects or dirt are just the icing on the cake

Stainless steel strings would be good to try too!

If you can blend your fuzzy signal with a clean one that will make it sound very aggressive! My bass is nothing special but it sounds so angry it scares even me sometimes!

I swear by markass heads. You can usually pick up a LM2 for about £300 off here and they are fantastic. don't be put off by the w***y videos... They annoy me too! They're very clean, bags of low end and warmth. And the VLE/VPF filters mean you can get pretty much any sound you want. If you want any dirt you will need to get a pedal, but honestly I did without dirt in all manners of rock and metal for ages because my rig sounds so good

I didn't like the RS210. Seemed too harsh, with not much low end. I could tell they were good cabs and very practical, but not for me

Most slap players, in fact most players who use multiple techniques use compression because slap is usually louder, and tapping is usually quieter, so it evens everything out a bit. I used to manage going from fingerstyle to tapping alright, but I had to tap pretty hard and it ended up being rather sloppy. Practice can iron out pretty much any issue one will come across, but I chose the easy way out

A lot of people complain about the fact that some Markbass heads have a post EQ DI.. Not me! It means My sound goes to the engineer, and most of them don't touch it. I've probably only been DI'd twice since I got my rig since it simply doesn't need it

This is a great tone! I can get pretty close if i play around with my Sansamp, Bass Big Muff, and Jackhammer pedals. (Must strongly recommend the Marshall Jackhammer if you can find one. It's full of filth, and has an EQ section to counter any loss of low end)

Sounds like a good idea to me, as long as you don't cause it to clip a lot. Maybe use a limiter to save your amp just in case? I also have an aggressive technique, but compress the hell out of my bass so I'm able to set my Gain at 1 o'clock without any worry

The Jazz bass sound works really well for me. Nice and aggressive in the upper mids and treble!
