I didn't like the feel of the Low Tension Flats under the right hand. I found them really grippy, particularly on a hot day. I've got EB Group IV flats now and I love them. They are brighter / punchier but that can be tamed with tone settings easily enough. I really like Ti flats on it too.

The finish on maple EBMM basses means the dirt is right into the wood. It’s very difficult to clean up. Personally I wouldn’t bother.

I quite like it, but a nice dark ebony board would have looked better. £1500 should get you nice lightweight tuners though.

EMG 40DC (5 string) and the 45DC (6 string) are not splittable pickups. Would have to change the pickups to a different model to get splits. I tried to have a look on the EMG website but for some reason my browser security is clocking it for an invalid response at the moment.

Boss LS2. On my big board I have 2 of them. Amazing things.

I had a tecamp Puma a few years ago. It was tiny and very light. I found it a bit bland as a bass amp, but as a power amp for my Helix it was excellent.

I love it, and the tone.

We do have a pretty unique procedure - if the bass rig craps out completely then one of the bari sax players swaps to playing the bass guitar parts and I go to the bar! It hasn't happened yet, but it's like having a back up me! But generally - 2 basses 2 amps 1 cab di box (if there's a PA. No point if not!) Always a spare guitar lead and Speakon speaker cable, battery, spare IEC power cable. Pretty much everything other than the cab.

I really like EB Group IV flats (not the Cobalts) and I have them on most things. Unfortunately EB don't do them as a shortscale and I don't think the long ones would survive being wrapped around the tuning post very well. Does anyone know of any shortscale flats that have a similar feel and tone? They are quite bright for a flat. La Bellas are too thuddy, Dunlop prices have gone completely stupid (and for this they are a bit too dark). So far All I've found are GHS flats, Picato, and D'addario chromes. I think Fender use their long scale ones on the JMJ Mustang but they seem a bit thuddy on youtube as well. I'm not mad on chromes but I haven't tried the GHS or the Picato. Any ideas? They have to be steel and not monel / excessive nickels as I react a bit to that. ta

If it isn’t made it’s usually because companies that could make it have done their market research and discovered it wouldn’t sell in sufficient volumes to make it worthwhile.

Nice. BTW - the pickup is in the same place as on the big ones... proportionally. It's adjusted for the scale length. It's the same percentage of the total scale length.

The low weight has been a revelation. I get through a 3 hour session and I'm not sore at all. No neck dive on either of them. Mine are both early ones with cedar bodies. I haven't played a paulownia one. I see Spector are now doing some paulownia body Euro basses. I've always loved that shape but the older ones are really heavy. A paulownia one might have to go on the gas list.
